Since we have Serena as a companion, could this mean we're getting another Pokemon contest subquest?
 
It seems there will be something involving showmanship, as was already hinted at with Tierno and his dream of having a dance team. Though whether it's contests, musicals or something new we can't be sure.

Though it would be nice to have another companion subplot to keep the fillers down (and hope it goes better than with Iris :uhoh:)

I really hope so. I actually liked Contests and a return with Serena could prove to be entertaining and interesting. I'm not sure how likely it is when they haven't mentioned it in any of the pre-release information, but it's possible that they haven't mentioned it because they want to focus on all of the new features, as opposed to a return to an older one. Still, even if Contests don't return, I really hope that we have a subplot with Serena's goal just to add more variety in the battles and so that not everything is going to center on Ash's battles.
 
If they do return I kinda want Ash to enter a few not to compete but to just fuse gyms with contests and build of skills he has in one. It could help him out in the actually league. Maybe something like Nando did I suppsoe
 
They promoted Super Contests before Diamond and Pearl's release. I'm sure that if they were to return now they would at least be slightly revamped, so the fact that they haven't been mentioned speaks volumes.
 
They should have Clemont do contests because why the hell not.
Ash can do his gyms and Pikachu whoring.
Sernea can be a dancer and get with the fat guy with the ice cream shirt.

Didn't he only use Pika in a bunch of gyms in Unova? I know he did a few in AG and DP but Pikachu seemed to be in almost all the gym battles in Unova. I really do hope Pika is more laid back this arc and only used as a last resort. I mean if Ash faces the Mega Blaziken right off the boat and he does lose I think that is a lot better then him losing to a baby Snivy.
 
I'd love contests to return, miss them. I could at least see them brining in a more updated version of contests, it does seem perfect for Sernea :)
 
I don't care as long as they give both the boy and girl something to do.
 
Please no. Dawn already got runner-up and that is as far as any female will ever get to achieving their goals.
 
Yeah I hope so. I liked contests. And Serena seems like the type that would like to participate. And a france based region seems like the right place for contests too.
 
Anything that gets people doing stuff. It doesn't matter how likeable Misty, Brock, Iris or Cilan are, they become so redundant when their goals are lame and get no attention. May and Dawn contributed the most to the story by far.
 
Unless they somehow play part in new games (something we would have likely know by now l)chances of contests becoming full fledged heavily focused quest like its case with gyms are small.
In most cases writers rather want to advertize new features from games instead of going back to older concepts pushed aside by Nintendo, Gamefreak.

Although there is possibillity of RS remakes coming out on horizon, so in that aspect contests could gain enough relevance and marketing value to become more prominent thing in anime once more. Which ironically would fit with culture and tradition Kalos region has to offer being based on France, Country known for beauty, fine cuisine, romance etc.

But personally i would rather want to see writers giving good and believable development for a change to main girls which are pursuing different careers than coordinators do bringing with itself prospect of new exciting adventure, events character would enter and tasks he would need to fulfill to become what he wants. Out of possible new companions in case of joining cast i could see Serena being suitable for whatever quest writers provide for female companion to do this time.

Depends what is counted as contribution to story.
Dawn and May contributed more in aspect of battling and competing, but others compensated by playing bigger role in Ash growth as trainer, in providing more humor and quality dynamic,keeping group on hold or influencing villain, main plot through subroles they played, links between their goals and it leading to resolution.
For me each has left some impact on this anime.

But i can definitely see from where your coming from, because i too want that Ash travel companions goals and ambitions they pursue are more focused upon being treated like palpable storyline which gets fleshed out with time. Which would give them more chance to shine, battle and develop as trainers. Which was one of more positive things contests had going for it.
Something i l feel we lacked at times with Cilan, Brock, Iris or Misty(Johto for ie would be much better if from start they focused more on her career like Whirl Cup was).Or if for Cilan they had chain of events where his skills as connoisseurs could be measured, rivalry with Burgundy flourish etc.

So in that aspect i agree with what you said.

No, I certainly don't hope so.

I didn't like Contests, they really bored me and just didn't care for them at all. And I think they've had enough spotlight.

Will they actually return? Might be. Serena seems like the kind of girl that would participate in them.
 
I'd love Contests to return, I want them back so badly. The writers spoiled me for years and then they took Contests from me as if nothing had happened. I'd be very happy if they gave me back the appeals and creative battles that I miss so much. Even if Contests are not present in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, they'll have to appear in the Ruby and Sapphire remakes, so they could start promoting them right now and make me a happy panda already. Besides, Contests would be just perfect for Serena. That way we would be sure to see her working hard towards her goal rather than ignoring the very reason why she left her home and waiting for a Dragonite to fall into her lap to further ignore the poor louse-eating monster lacking a GPS.
 
I'd be more pleased if they took my ideas about new contests/tournaments to feature the games in. For example, she could enter her Pokemon in beauty contests to help show off Amie.

I wouldn't mind if they brought them back though, I really enjoy the double battle contests.
