Will Mewtwo Return to the Anime?

Mewtwo is one of my favorite Pokemon. Not so much because it's really strong but more so for his (or its) character development; we are talking about the anime.

The writers for Pokemon are VERY good at not forgetting the original; we often see old Kanto, and Johto based Pokemon be featured in recent episodes such as Psyduck, Sandshrew, Suicune, Steelix, etc. This is one of the things I marvel about the story.

Other than Suicune most legendaries are basically dealt with and then move on (for the most part - and I wonder what Ho-oh's role will finally be)

So do you think Mewtwo should make a come back, it's been awhile since he (or its) appearence last seen in the Johto saga. I would hope so...
 
I'd like to see him make at least one more appearance in the anime too, but I dunno how much of a chance it has in happening.

Legendaries do tend to re-appear a lot though, Deoxys appeared in both Battle Frontier and DP after its Movie 7 debut. I also don't get what being "original" has to do with it, almost everything else from the other arcs make re-appearances as well.

The problem with Mewtwo is he's more of a "character" than a Pokemon, so he can't be randomly thrown into an episode like any other legendary.

I suppose we have no way of knowing. It'd be nice to see him again but it may not happen.

I hope at least. It'd be nice to see Team Rocket's ultimate goal meet Team Galactic's.
 
I would love that, but I'm not sure what they would do with him unless Giovanni made yet another attempt to get him under his control.
 
Well, seeing that Mewtwo travels around cities in a brown cloak, he might make some random appearance.

I'd be very surprised if Giovanni doesn't *know* about Mewtwo at least. Even without direct memory, there's people who would tell him, and a paper trail a mile long tracking the efforts to capture it, as well as reports of its deeds/misdeeds beforehand.

However, Mewtwo was never Team Rocket's ultimate goal, just Giovanni's vendetta.
 
If there is ever going to be an epic plot finish in Kanto with team rocket, Mewtwo should take part in that.

But he hasn't got much chances if that does not happen.
 
I loved Mewtwo. I think he had great character development, I felt a bit bad for him. I'd like to see him again in the anime. At least once more.
 
I could see him coming back for the finale, if anything, especially if they use that to tie up the TR plotline once and for all. Otherwise, I just don't see why Mewtwo would bother. Let the poor guy have some space.
 
Hmm, when you think about it, they have it set up pretty well that, if they so desired, Mewtwo could have his own little special without Ash's presence. That could be cool if done right.

Big "no" to Mewtwo appearing in Movie 12. He's already had his movie, and the last thing we need is for the old to jump in to the steal spotlight from the new some more (gtfo of Hoenn, Lance). Maybe some ultimate legendary showdown or something could happen someday, but not Movie 12.

i really don't mind if there was a adaptation of the FR/LG manga battle between red/mewtwo vs. giovanni/deoxys
 
I guess it depends on if one of the writers thinks up a good plot for him, and manages to convince the producers that it's worth making...

For what it's worth, I certainly hope it happens!

BTW...I've seen a screen capture of Mewtwo in the brown cloak, but where does that actually appear in the anime? One of the Japanese opening/closing themes? In an episode I haven't seen yet? In the Mewtwo's Return closing credits, which I don't have on my copy? I'd really like to know...

The beginning of Movie 6, I think? Either way it was in one of those "World of Pokemon" segments at the beginning of one of the AG movies, I think.
 
I'll have at this. In rebuttal to Scott85, I may want to refute that if done with moderation enough that an episode could indeed splice him in without undermining his character complex (but he is more a character than a Pokémon in my eyes as well, with a certain dark yet peering depth in the thoughts he openly shows that makes him my favorite Pokémon), so that he could conduce something to the episode while making it stand out. But Mewtwo can't be thrown in with but a thought like any legendary and be taken in earnest, so my agreeance goes to this thread in a way. Still, he has a certain lucid yet commanding quality that I feel would be lost to the very last if enough was expounded upon and revealed about such a character.

I would like to see Mewtwo return before the culmination and height of the anime's ending, but I'd rather it be done in moderation as to not dull him as a presence and as a character of his stature (IMO).

Mewtwo will appear in Gen IV. I am certain of it. Why?:-
He makes one major appearance every Generation
1) Movie 1
2) Mewtwo Returns
3) Mirage special
Okay #3 wasn't the real Mewtwo but there was a Mewtwo with a major role.
So expect to see him before Gen V.

Well, there's only one Mewtwo, to my understanding, and since it's got to be the same as in the first movie and the "Mewtwo Returns" special, I don't see why it would have a reason to fight Arceus.

But I wouldn't wind if Mewtwo would actually return. It's one of the most interesting Pokémon, after all.
