Will this take place after XY? What of Mega Evolution?

Hello! Just curious to other people's thoughts. Do you think Alpha & Omega will occur after XY? Or at the same time, or before?

Thus, will Mega Evolution even be included? I don't know...I still have mixed feelings about a significant signature aspect of the Kalos region randomly being in another region as well (esp since Sycamore hasn't fully unveiled/studied everything about Mega evolution).

One the one hand I want it, but on the other I don't...

They will find a way to crowbar it in yes. Nothing exclusive to a region stays exclusive to a region for long sadly.

Major gameplay mechanics come before story and continuity in Pokémon. That's a well-known fact of the series, especially in its modern age.

It's pretty much assured Mega Evolution will be featured in ORAS. They'll either handwave it with a basic reference to its Kalos origins (Very unlikely) or will just have it there without much of an explanation (Most likely). Look at the DNA Splicers in XY. lol

Or perhaps they will do things differently and actually explain it or make it central to the plot even, but I highly doubt it.

As for timeline, anything goes. The sensible thing would be to make a new story in Hoenn so it matches with the current games. However, given how dubious the FRLG/RSE connection was compared to the DPPt/HGSS connection, it may just be a flat out remake of the originals. BW2 DOES have an ex-Aqua Grunt and ex-Magma Grunt, which sort of implies RSE happened for certain before BW2 at the very least. But again, things have changed and consistency is never a priority in Pokémon.

Well, actually, it would make sense that there ARE Mega Evos in OR/AS, since, IIRC, Professor Birch was the professor that studies evolution. So, when he learned of Mega Evos, he probably contacted Sycamore, and he would help him in finding out more about them.
And yes, I want OR/AS to occur at the same time as X and Y, since I want them to be sequels.

Nope. It was Rowan who was focused in unveiling the mystery of Pokémon Evolution. It's even referenced in XY.

Birch was more focused in Pokémon habitats, as shown by his constant field research.

Oh, well, close enough.... But then.... SINNOH CONFIRMED!
JK.
But seriously, I don't see the big deal with introducing mega evos to Hoenn. It's really simple if they make it a sequel.

Far be it from Game Freak to bother to explain much, it could be as simple as Sycamore/Korrina making an appearance (roundabout Petalburg City time?) and handing over the stone for your starter.

I think a certain quote about Blue in Kalos would place XY after gen 1 and 3. (Time Capsule returns?)
As for Mega Evolution it has already been retconned into gen 1 in Origins and XY seems to suggest Mega Evolution had been around for a few generations.

There is no way that GF would not care about Megas now. They are in one main series game, which means that they will be in every coming main series game too. There does not need to be logical, but it will be there.

I doubt Matsumiya would go on record and state what the current timeline is, if it wasn't to reassure people that ORAS will take place during FrLg. Not taking place in the same time period isn't that big a deal as we've had BW and BW2 trade with each other. Not only are those two years apart in-universe, but Black and White are hinted at being separate parallel worlds, so I doubt we'd need things like a Time Capsule.

Mega Evolution isn't that big a deal as in-universe, its existence predates the events of Gen I. The only problematic part would be the introduction of new Mega Stones found outside of Kalos (though I feel like having two prominent rock collectors like Mr. Stone and Steven Stone, it shouldn't be that hard to have a few new ones in there).

The bigger issue is the Fairy type, but even that can be hand-waved so long as no references are made to Fairy Pokemon existing in the games, even if it exists game mechanic wise.

It's this type of thing that makes me hate timelines, like some awesome stuff can be added to the games but they can't because it will create a plot hole, a timeline adds absolutely nothing and just restricts a lot of the stuff that could have been added. So yeah add Mega Evolution, Fairy type and other stuff that weren't in the originals and screw the timeline.

There's a really simple solution to this Mega Evo/Fairy problem:

I wanna be kinda picky here but the timeline says "RS" not "ORAS" so that might not totally be set in stone…

…then again it does not list FRLG or HGSS at all, only the originals.
I assume that's because they're placing the remakes at the same times as the original games, though since it's not explicitly stated I'll withhold any final judgement on that...

The games get retconned all the time. They'll do it again with ORAS.

I know right?!

it's like… ''oh really…? You're…you're just gonna hand me these…? Have you any idea of the ABSOLUTE SHITSTORM that these caused in the last region I was in?!''

That really bugged me.

I hope that mega-evolution is at least still a semi-big deal in OR/AS. As has been mentioned before, it would make a lot of sense for Professor Birch to be heavily involved in the study of it. It would really bum me out if nothing was said of it, yet there it was.

If there's one thing that doesn't change in remakes, it's their placement in the timeline.
Why?
Because unlike the other features of a remake which are related to the originals, the timeline placement can also affect games in different generations. And besides, we know FRLG and HGSS are in the same place as their original counterparts because of in-game references.
So, yeah, ORAS occur at the same time as RS.

It will be included. I do not think new evolutions will be added. Major changes do not get retracted. Items/natures/abilities/ doubles/ tripples/rotations// hidden abilites//

Development on (and at worst, conception of) ORAS had to begin considerably before XY was finished. GameFreak does operate through two teams, after all, so let's get that out of the way first.

When GameFreak decided to label the Fairy-type a recent discovery and tie in Mega Evolution so deeply into the Kalos region, they were well aware of the "hole" they were digging themselves into, which tells me they don't really care about timeline/story discrepancies. The Fairy-type will be there, but I think it'll be unacknowledged in dialogue. Mega Evolution will not be featured until the post-game, which never seems to really be considered canon anyway.

On that basis, I don't think whatever changes Groudon and Kyogre have undergone will be tied into Mega Evolution; I'm expecting more of a connection to the Red and Blue Orbs myself. I don't see GameFreak deviating so much from the original Hoenn plots to take a mechanic so distinctly tied to the Kalos mythos and shoehorn it into these remakes; especially since new forms would cause less compatibility problems.
