Will we ever get a male main who does something?

It's like the writers don't want another male to take the spotlight away from Ash, so they make one who's not old enough to battle, one who loves to draw, and the other who loves to flirt no matter how much he gets rejected.

James even doesn't battle that much.

With that said, will we ever get a male battler in the main cast?

Whether he'd be a coordinator or not, I'd like to see Ash be a mentor for a traveling male trainer with him.

Takeshi refuses to leave, so I doubt that we will get another male on the main cast.

However if they ever do a Hoenn and have 3 travelling partners with Ash, then you may get your wish.

Hm I like that idea very much. I got tired of ash by the second season so a new trainer to take his place would be great...as long as he doesn't get badges handed to him and loses every fucking league he participates in.

LMAO!!! Well, being a friend of Ash, he couldn't take the spotlight away from him.

I'd think it'd be nice to get a male cast member that rivals Ash kinda like how Misty did.

I always loved Misty and Ash's arguments, I'd love for that to be reborn in a new male cast member. Kinda like a misfit.

He doesn't have to collect badges, instead be on a quest to become a Gym leader maybe, but has to battle at points to get his wish.

I could give you a well, nice, long reply but I get damn 503s.

No, I don't think we will. Ash is the main character after all.

But wouldn't it be nice to at least get one who stands out, and becomes a fav.

I think it would be nice if the writers gave Ash a friend who was jealous of Ash's success and took a while to repsect him, and only travels with him in the beginning for a deed Ash owes him or something.

Misty and Ash had the most problems, it'd be a nice change to get another main cast member who didn't really repsect Ash all that much or was jealous of him, but learned to like him.

The reason why so many love Paul, cause he is not like Gary, he is a full 180 from him.

Having a dark-emo like main male who battles would be a nice switch up if you ask me.

Are you kidding! That'd be epic.

I'd be a nice chang of what Brock, Tracey, and Max have been.

I honestly believe tho, that we might one day get one.

I think it will add more of a dynamic to the main cast.

You mean a clone of Paul being a main character? That would surely add dynamic but wouldn't work as a main character. Sounds like bad fanfic, if you want my honest opinion. Anti-heroes work better as recurring characters, especially in animés like this.

I enjoyed Ash and Misty's fights as well.

If you really think about it, Misty is the only character to call Ash out on his mistakes and bs.

She's also the only real battler.

With that said, it'd be nice to get a male main character, that's what I think Kengo means.

Yup that's what I mean exactly.

Ash doesn't have to leave, I'd just think we need a new, edgier male in general.

nope. If you became a male main on pokemon, you're obviously not that great at acting and thus you get thrown there were you can do nothing with a bland character. I mean, you all saw Brock in Alone in the Dark. All he did was walk on and die.

...

JK. On a serious note, I don't think so. I was very surprised Brock did something useful in this last episode. And I've given up on TR altogether.

^ True, but static things can become dynamic.

Just like ideas can always become new.

Let's wait and see what the future holds.

Dear God, yes! At least make him a Pokethlonist or someting, he doesn't need to be a gym challenger. But we need something new and fresh! Or make the Gen V boy be the coodinator and the girl be Ash's rival.

Totally agreed.

It'd be cool to see a male coordinator and a female challenge gyms alongside Ash.

I don't think that's too much action, cause we should all know.

We'd rather action than fillers.

Back when DP started people thought Paul would be a main cast member thanks to a misleading poster that had Paul with Ash/Dawn instead of Brock.

But we all know how that went.

I don't. But I've seen the poster. And I would have supported Paul.

I remember something similar back before DP started.

There was a poster with Dawn on it only, and people (yes, even you, Scott85) assumed that Dawn was somehow replacing Ash all because she was on the poster without Ash.

I don't care if they show Brock only on the posters, I want a change of pace. Don't fix anything that's not broken- OK. But if they continue that some fans will soon start breaking things.

Jun would have been really fun to have on the main cast.

Hopefully, we'll get a main character as entertaining as him when the fifth generation comes around.

Also, Kojirou tries...sometimes...

I do think it would be interesting for Ash, if he wins the Sinnoh League (and he'd damn well better), to get out of the badge-collecting business and instead travel with a rookie trainer who's on his own league journey in the new region. Ash could finally be the mentor he was supposed to be way back in Season 6 (without Brock, by the way).
