Will we finally get a Gym Builder feature?

As much as I really liked ORAS's Super Secret Bases and invested a lot of time into building the perfect one for me, I have to admit that I felt that how it handled the pseudo-Gym aspect was kind of disappointing. Not only was your Trainer sprite set as a simple Trainer class seeing as how ORAS lacked the customization of X&Y, but it turned out could you only use the first three Pokemon in your party in your Secret Base battle. Pretty much, it felt to me like an afterthought added on, with the decorations being the heart and soul of the feature.

But now that the old Chinese rumor about the Player Character building an official Alolan Pokemon League has been confirmed in today's announcement, do you think this means we'll finally get the ability to truly design our own Gym and become a Gym Leader for others to battle via QR Code?

From a story standpoint I think it would make perfect sense for this to be included (since you've completed the Island Trials and taken on Team Skull you get the honor of becoming one of the new League's first Gym Leaders - and then you can fill in vacant spots with other peoples' Gyms).

If they do include this, I think at the very least we should expect the ability to register a full team of up to 6 Pokemon to use in your custom Gym Leader battle as well as your Trainer sprite at the time of QR Code creation (since it has long been confirmed that clothes & customization are returning and the Trainer sprites are more visible in battle this time around). But there's a couple other things that I think would be cool to put in:

1. It would be interesting if you can actually build a puzzle using items in a given floor space, like in Super Secret Bases but with only various Trap-type items. Maybe some of the more elaborate ones could need to be unlocked somehow, and/or a Rank system could increase things like floor space & the number of puzzle elements you can place. And maybe there could also be various "type themes" to choose from (think Super Mario Maker) for those who want to make a one-type Gym.

2. I would also really like to see the ability to actually recruit your own Trainers to use in your Gym from ones in the overworld that are eligible for rematches. Like maybe after you beat their final rematch team they'll ask you for a job at your new Gym, and then you can place them in a spot just like Secret Pals.

3. Biggest potential obstacle I think would be making your own Badge - maybe you can just choose one to use from a variety of premade designs and names for the Alola League? Or perhaps the Alola League will do away with traditional Badges altogether?

So what do you think? If I find out this is indeed in Sun & Moon, I can definitely see myself continuing to play for far longer than any Delta Episode-like postgame story or new Battle Facility would keep me in for. The hardest part for me would be choosing just six of my all-time favorite Pokemon to put in a single Gym I think!

No. ORAS was kind of fine because they weren't really gyms. I want to rely on GF to make the gyms. Last thing we need is level 1oo legendaries with Life Orbs for every single gym leader. If there was then I would have a Dragon type gym but like I said, GF should remain in charge of making gyms.

If I was the person in charge of making a Gym Builder feature, I would personally set a rule that Pokemon which are traditionally banned from Battle Facilities & Tournaments (such as Rayquaza and Mewtwo) can't be uploaded to a Gym or used in custom-made Gym battles. Because yeah I agree that would kind of defeat the purpose of such a feature...

Ohmori already said there are no gyms in SM. So being able to make our own Gyms would be great, but it has pretty much been confirmed not to be in SM.

Besides, ORAS already has Pseudo Gyms. But if we can build proper Gyms in SM it would be AWESOME. I just think it is unlikely, especially after Ohmori confirmed no Gyms in SM in various interviews (unless he is trying to fool us for a big postgame surprise)

About the hammer shop, I don't know. It could be a Palm Tree, not necessarily a Hammer.

But the empty plarforms in mant cities of Alola are very strange...

I think it would be fun to do and I want to point out that there's a building in this one town on Akala Island that has shown a hammer sign on it. Nobody know what its for yet, but what if it tied into this.

If you're talking about the image spoken about in this thread, a clearer image (which I sadly can't find anymore) shows that it's probably a palm tree ;)

I don't think we'll get a gym builder, as there's only talk of a League with an Elite 4 and a Champion, no gyms:
The Pokémon League is where the Elite Four—four Pokémon Trainers with powerful Pokémon partners—and the Champion, who reigns as the top of all Trainers, await challengers.

I do think the leak could still be correct and that we build our own league, but only in that we can choose who will take the place of the Elite 4 and Champion. There was another rumor in which it was said that you could create your own League and share this with others so they can challenge it. I think that might actually be the case.

Maybe you can put together an Elite 4 from the strong trainers you recruit in the Battle Tree, and you'll be the Champion yourself and be able to set your own team. And you can then share this League online for other players to battle against, and you can battle against the Leagues of other players.

I personally would love this, cause it would mean we would have endless Leagues to battle :D

The other rumor I remember hearing (though I forget which "leak" it was and whether or not it was at least somewhat credible) was that you're given the opportunity to become an Island Kahuna after beating the game.

But anyway, regardless of whether it ends up being a Gym Builder feature, a custom Kahuna battle, or full-fledged Pokemon League - my point is that I would REALLY like to see the ability to upload a QR Code containing your dream Pokemon team and Trainer Sprite data that other players can scan and battle. Like I said, although I did enjoy playing around with the Super-Secret Bases, it kinda felt to me like the whole pseudo-Gym aspect was more or less slapped on as an afterthought, and I would really like to see GameFreak build on it more in Sun & Moon, or maybe in the theoretical remakes of DP (if and when they do remake those games, I can't wait to see what they end up doing with the updated Sinnoh Underground, given how much Nintendo Wi-Fi has expanded since the days of Gen IV!)

It hasn't even been confirmed yet that we do build the League. But it would be cool to build one though. :)

But yeah. No Gyms = Still no Dark Gym Leader! :p

Yes... Why do you think we still don't have a Dark Gym yet? It makes no sense. Although we sort of have almost in every game an E4 Dark Karen, Sidney and Grimsley. Then again...so is Ice, Ghost, Psychic and Dragon. Ok never mind, my theory doesn't have enough evidence. We need a Dark Type Gym....

It is obvious. Troll Freak is to blame. A Poison-type legendary is still missing as well.

Anyway, building Gyms in Alola seems like a no-no. :p

Indeed that's what I was saying two weeks ago and this legendary should be one of those 680 stats..give some love to Poison type GF!

I just found a video from GameXplain that explains why there could indeed be Gyms after all in Sun & Moon:

Interesting...if this guy's theory is true, and there really are 7 of those empty lots, then I think it's certainly concievable that the Player could end up being that mysterious 8th Gym Leader. That would tie into the whole theory of why the Player would participate in "building" the new League as part of the post-game story.

I think the Trial Captains are going to be Gym Leaders and the Kahunas The Elite 4. Apparently the Pokemon League will be something new for the Alola region and you are witnessing the birth of the Alola Pokemon League. Although something troubles me...1. Why only 7 empty plots and not 8? where is yours, if you are supposed to become the 8th Gym Leader and 2. I get it you will be the 1st Champion of the Alola League BUT my problem is this. Unlike what this person is saying on the video, I don't think that there is any point revisiting those places just to get the badges it's not very smart and here's why. Badges are supposed to give some benefits to the players. I am almost sure that you will have at least a 50 lvl Pokemon before you can help build the Gyms. Also no HMs and so in a few words Badges use is gone...There are things that don't add up to that theory.

Unless this game is the game we have been all waiting for, a completely different storyline for once.

The Pokemon league is kind of like an all encompassing global power in the games. The fact that it's just recently coming to Alola, a place that has already been established as a trendy tourist spot, is a story upon itself.

But at the same time I don't see us building it from the ground up ourselves. We'll probably become a gym leader. Being appointed the job with at least 6 or 7 new npcs that we have no control over.

Also, it's worth noting that the flying guy who I have dubbed "Douglas", has something resembling a league logo for a wallet chain:

So, maybe if anything he's the first "gym leader" or proto-e4 you face and he has nothing to do with the Kahuna at all and there is actually a pre-determined league post-game.
