I think we have to see that. In each league he was closer and closer to his goal. I think we might see it in Sinnoh or not...

I just want the show to have a proper conclusion so it feels like the story that started in Kanto will have an ending someday.
The show now has nearly 600 episodes, and by the time this gen ends it'll have somewhere around 650 episodes and 13 movies.
If it really does go on in the 5th gen, the show will come close to 700-800 episodes.
The show needs closure. You do not write a 12+ year continuity and not give it a proper ending.
He'll probaly be so close and then lose to a new friend and opponent he sees in the tournament just like in Hoenn when he lost to the kid with the Meowth

It'll get that ending, but only when a generation of kids don't feel like watching a 22 minute toy/game commercials from Japan anymore.
And because the toy it's advertising involves an actual plot, however thin, making it at least one step above "hip youngsters being cool with magical robot toys" when it comes to making a TV show last longer than a year. The only difference between it and other 22 minute toy/game commercials from Japan like Beyblade and Bakugan is that its been popular enough to still be mainstream in America for over a decade.
Maybe they're going for an even one thousand episodes, or something.
