Windows, Mac or Linux?

Which operating system do you use?

My old computer (this one) is on WinXP. But my new computer (currently being built) will be on Linux, as will all the other computers I plan use/build in the future.

I have WindowsXP at home, and I use MacOS 10 (I think) at school for the newspaper. After over a month of Mac use, I can say that I still like Windows. I mostly miss the right mouse button and its uses.

Give me multiple choice!

I use all three. In descending order of use, [Gentoo] Linux [GNOME], Windows 2003 [on VMware], and Mac OS X [10.2].

Apple is the work of Satan, and Steve Jobs is the Antichrist.
Nothing seems to run on Linux, so I am forced to go with the lesser of two evils: Windows.
Besides, I've used Windows since I was a kid, so it's what I'm used to.

Heresy! Microsoft are the hands of Satan, and Bill Gates is the Antichrist!

I know I hated the ooooold Apple Macs my school had. They ran like crap and only having one mouse button gets exceedingly annoying.

I use Windows XP 'cause I don't own a Mac and would rather just stick with what i've got than arse around trying to install Linux and then being subject to compatability issues.

I never had to suffer, err, use pre-OS X Macs. The one button thing is something you adapt to with use -- and something software authors write around.

Of course, adopting Linux is not for the faint of heart. Only the most determined, driven or interested individuals should try to adapt to it. [Persons who have never used computers much are just as well off with any computer, though you'd probably be looking at tech support calls no matter which option you pick for them.]

But honestly, unless you have bizarre, rare, or cutting-edge hardware, Linux will run. [Note I say nothing about running software... if you want to run Windows software, run Windows!]

The only Macs I've ever used were the ancient ones in the school computer lab, and I absolutely despised those.

I use WinXP on my main computer, as well as the one upstairs. There's Red Hat 9.0 on the Linux/Server computer in the 'tech room.

Once I get around to building myself a new computer, and get the money too, I plan on having multiple OSes: WinXP, WinVista, & a Linux distro. Haven't decided which though.

The only Macs I've ever used are school ones, which...tend to suck. Some of them ARE normal two-button mice with scrollwheels, but I HATE the single-buttom mice, simply because none of them have scrollwheels.(seriously, using the scrollwheel is so much more natural than using the keyboard or the scrollbar that NOT having one seems...wrong.)

I use Windows at home, and I'm quite happy with it. It doesn't have many problems thanks to the fact that the only two people who use it know enough to AVOID and PREVENT problems :O

As for Linux...never used it.

I feel surprised that there is only one vote for Linux (that of course would be me). Linux is stable, customizable, and cost effective. Of course I do use windows on occasion, but I'm mostly on the Linux side. Not to mention i'm one of the admins for a Linux distro: BLAG: http://blagblagblag.org

Mac OS X Tiger all the way. I despise Windows XP. I shouldn't have to keep on the look out for viruses, spyware and adware that can steal my information. I shouldn't have to keep witnessing crashes and losing information because of (relative) instability (XP is stable, but OS X is leagues ahead). OS X is simply the best OS out there, and comes with software beyond anything you don't have to pay for in Windows (iMovies, iDVD, Garageband, etc).

Education Macs back in the day were obviously not the best computers around, but a consumer level Mac like the iMac is all aces. Unless you're really into pure computing power, then a PC is the best solution but this is an OS thread. :P

I hated clicking that poll button, but since I'm using WinXP on this machine, that's what I had picked.
...
You have no *BSD on there?! Silly Linux fools! :-D Also, GNOME is for losers. :p I'm using FreeBSD and Fluxbox on my old PC.

Oh, I know why I hate Macs. They have a weird interface, shitty tech support, and they're just a pain in the ass.

I highly doubt that their tech support is any worse than that of Microsoft. The only thing that I don't like about the interface is their focus on making it "look cool," ie. bloated with special effects and whatnot, which makes it seem quite distasteful and unprofessional to me. Of course, I doubt that that's something someone like you would be worried about. I don't understand the "pain in the ass" argument, however...

In my opinion, Macs are still excellent computers for some uses and users. (Especially for the kind who'd need tech support.)
