Question time guys: I'm working as an IT technician at an art school which has a graphic design class using Windows XP-based PCs. I need to disable limited access users from modifying the desktop icons and I also need to disable the students from saving anything to the desktop. I looked into the Windows group policy but it only has an administrative template of hiding the desktop. Any takers?

You should be looking into file/folder permissions, not group policy.

You can't really stop them from adding things to their own Desktop. However, they should never be able to modify the All Users Desktop either... unless you aren't using NTFS for the disk, in which case you get no permissions enforcement at all.
