I got home today and turned my computer on, only to find a major file was corrupted or destroyed (I'd run my virus and spyware stuff the day before and had done NOTHING unusual since). So, after doing the only option available to me, I did a system restore. After the computer had restored itself enough to actually work, I found the backup folder that was created.
My problem is utilizing the files and such in that folder. It appears to have copied everything from the past setup, but I've no clue how to go about re-installing (or just utilizing?) the things that need to be reinstalled from this folder. Or if I even can.
I've searched Google for information on how to restore a backup, but my problem is that my backup is a folder, not a .bkf file. It was made as the system was restoring itself, not prior. And the earliest point that I can restore the system from was about an hour ago, which is about an hour after I got the computer restored.
I readily admit that I have no idea what the hell happened, or how to go about fixing things. Mainly because EVERY time I have a computer problem, it's something completely different from the last one.
For the most part, I can reinstall programs from the original disks, but I have two main worries:
1. Can I, at all, utilize the files (the things I REALLY want) in the backup folder?
2. If I can't fully restore the backup folder, can I delete the stuff I don't need (it even copied Windows files from the old setup) safely (i.e., without screwing my computer up in a brand new way)?
