Winds of Change
The Prologue ~ Introductions

You ask me of my real name, but, why do you ask me? Is it really that important? I seriously don’t think so. I can tell you the name that everyone calls me, but, does that mean that it is my real name? No one has called me my real name in so long, it’s been forgotten. Even I cannot remember what they used to call me. Now, though, they call me Rayne Sokuzami. To be honest, I like my name now. It seems to suit me better then the name they gave me when I was born. I’m quite an odd teenager, trust me, even my own friends (though I have little) say it.
I’ve been a drifter since before I was 12. I’m 18 now, and, I have no family. Aside from my best friends, Max – who I’ve known since I was 5 – and Lenne – who I’ve known since I was 13. I met Max when I still went to daycare. (Ugg, trust me…it’s a horror to even think about it. I hated going there…) But, yeah, anyways, back to how I met Max. I can remember it like it was yesterday. I’ll go into that later, now I should introduce you to Lenne. She’s a really close friend of mine, who I met back in middle school. She was the new girl, and no one liked her. I was the first one that came up to her and asked about her life. (Which is quite interesting, and she’s not as she seems).
Now, do you want to know more about me? All I can say is that I’m not one who gets along with others, and I’ve been told that I’m silent as a mouse. There are some days, where I can be the silent voice of reason between people. I hate fighting, but, I will stand up for what I think is right. Which there are a few times, that it isn’t actually the best of ideas. Trust me, I’m NOT the best of people to hang out with. I can be a bad influence on the people I love, or just people in general. Yeah, I should say people in general. I don’t love anyone. I do have one thing I want, and hopefully, I’ll get the someone..err..something that I want. Did I say someone? I meant something.
My family…they were killed when I was 12. Someone tried to intrude in my house, and I wasn’t home at the time. My mother – whose name was Kari – and father – whose name was Matthew - were killed, trying to protect the house. From what I was told, they knew the person that did it, and they would rather not tell me who it was, as the person is getting out of jail soon. They didn’t want me doing anything I’ll regret later. Knowing me though, I’ll still do it anyways. My parents should be avenged somehow. But, you know something, the funny thing is, I don’t look or even sound like my mother or my father. I always thought that was kind of strange, and so did a few other people I know… But, as far as I can remember, they’ve always been my mom and dad. Always there, looking out for me, and helping me when I needed it. I would have never thought that they were not my real parents, and… I never thought of asking them.
But, yeah, I’m going to try and explain my life to you, starting from as far back as I can remember – which is quite far back from what I can recall, and I can remember when Max and I first met. Trust me, this was quite a while back, and, I was only 5. I know it may seem a little cheesy, but, heh, what do you expect? I need to start somewhere, don’t I?

Please split the chapters up into different posts. Also, you can only post one chapter per minute.

Anyway, good luck with NaNoWriMo! I'm falling back because of camp. T.T

Chapter 1 ~ The Playground and the Lonely Child

It was a nice day, and there was a group of young children – none of them being more than 6 years old, the lot of them – and they were crowding around a little slide. It wasn’t that high off the ground. So, if something would happen, none of the children would be badly hurt. That’s what they were told, anyhow. No one said it was true. From what’s been said, there are people that have been hurt from falling or slipping. It’s happened. Even though, it doesn’t happen very often, it can happen.
There she was. You could see the young girl, and she looked no more than 6 years old. Maybe she was younger. You couldn’t really tell just by looking at her. That’s the odd thing. The look she had on her face, it was one of pure horror. You could tell by the look in her eyes, that she was scared. However, it might not have been noticeable, if not for that same look.
A young boy, who was probably no more than 6 himself, just looked up at the little girl. ‘She looks like she’s scared of heights, but, why is she up there?!he thought to himself. The young child didn’t really know the girl that was up there, he only knew he by name. He didn’t know anything else, not even her favorite thing to do. This was actually kind of shocking, because, Max – which was the name of the young boy – knew just about everyone. It was only her that she didn’t know. Well, that’s not entirely true. The only thing he knew was that her name was Rayne. And, that she was really scared of heights.
Max continued to watch the group around Rayne. They all looked like they wanted to do something to her, because she was just sitting there at the top of the slide, just looking down, and not wanting to move, not at all.
Even though Max didn’t know the little girl, he continued to watch and wonder at the group of kids (who were all guys, aside from Rayne) and started to worry. The head kid, who he knew as Damian, started to move awfully close to Rayne. Max knew Damian, and he knew that the kid could get quite rough, when things didn’t go his own way.
“Come on! What are you, a chicken?!” Spat Damian, as he made his way over to Rayne. Max, shocked that Damian could be so rude to a girl, just stood there and gave a strange look to the little boy. “Let’s go Rayne. Hurry up.”
Rayne didn’t say a word, but, she looked over at Max, and her eyes were filled with worry, and she was completely scared out of her mind. “Umm, what?” she asked the leader of the small group of kids.
“You heard me. You stupid little child. Hurry up.” Damian replied to Rayne. “No wonder why no one likes you. You’re a baby.”
Max heard this comment, and, ran over to the bottom of the slide. He looked up at Rayne and the group of children, and spoke – his voice quiet. “Guys, leave her alone for once.”
“Now, wait. Max, what does this have to do with you?!” asked one of the kids who was in the group picking on Rayne.
“I never said it had anything to do with me. I’m just getting tired of everyone always picking on Rayne. I mean it, leave her alone. Even I’ve had it with you guys – and I can put up with a lot of stuff.” Max told Damian, and he would have said more, had a teacher not walked up and asked what was going on.
The children around Rayne scattered, and Max climbed up onto the slide and sat next to the young girl, who still looked shocked that anyone had stuck up for her. All she did was nod her head as Max sat down.
“Are you okay?” The little boy asked. You could tell from the look in his eyes, that he was genuinely concerned for Rayne – even though he didn’t say it.
Rayne just looked at Max. The girl looked like she might cry, her blue eyes had a look of real sadness. “Yeah, I’ll be okay. Who are you anyways? I don’t think I know your name yet.”
Max sighed. “No, you don’t know me. And, you can call me Max. And, if I remember, your name is Rayne, right?” The little boy wanted to get to know this strange child, and why she rarely talked to anyone. ‘I don’t think she’s even got any friends…’ He thought to himself. ‘That’s kind of sad, she seems like a nice girl.’
Rayne smiled and started to blush. “Yeah, that’s my name. How’d you know that?” She asked Max. You could tell that she really liked Max, and was happy that she finally had someone to be friends with.
“Oh, I’ve heard your name around. Not a lot of people understand you, do they?”
Rayne just sighed. “No, not really. I don’t seem to understand why though. Am I really that bad?” She asked Max.
Max flinched. ‘Why would she ask me that? I don’t even know her. I wish I could get to know her. I don’t think that Silver would approve of it though.’ Max thought to himself. “I think you’re fine, just the way you are. Even though I don’t know you. Could we be friends? I’d like to know you.”
Rayne looked at Max. There was a speck of hope in her eyes, and you could tell that she was happy that she finally made a friend. “I’d…I’d like that….” She murmured, and Max had to lean in closer to hear what she had said. “I now have one friend. And here I thought that I would never get a friend in my whole life.” You could easily see that Rayne meant what she had said, just by the look in her eyes.
Max expression was priceless. His eyes got real wide as he said “There’s no way that you could have had no friends. Even I had friends. But, you know, I’m only 5, so, I can’t talk.” He let out a small laugh, and leapt off from the slide. “Come on!” He yelled back up at Rayne, who just stared at him, “Let’s go back inside. It’s starting to rain.”
Rayne smiled and – even though she was scared to do it – she jumped off the slide and landed on her own feet. “Yeah, let’s go.” She agreed.

Wait, I can double post here? If not, tell me and I'll fix it.

Chapter 2 ~ Memories

Enter the Clan of the Moon

“Well, now what do we do? He knows about us.” If you were standing outside the door, you couldn’t hear the words being spoken from the group. “We have to get rid of him, no matter his age, or his connection to Rayne.” It was a male that spoke, and she sounded really…well, it was either confused or upset. You’d have to actually be in the room to figure out her emotion.
“Should we erase his memory?” asked a voice from the crowd – a male by the sound of it.
“No. I think we should leave him alone, and then see how it turns out.” Spoke another person from the crowd.
The women in the front stood up. “I can see why you would want to erase his memory, Hatori, but, why would we do that?” She asked the male that had spoken up.
“But,” Hatori countered, with a look of hatred in his eyes, “He knows. I was always told that if a human ever figures out about us, that we were to use our powers for the greater good – which in this case would mean getting rid of his memory altogether.”
“Exactly! Erase his memory!” yowled many voices from the crowd. You could tell from the reactions of the crowd, that this is what they would want to happen.
However, this isn’t what the lead female wanted. “No. We shall not erase his memory.”
“Lady Silver! But, why?!” Asked a female, from the back of the crowd. She had black hair, with tinges of silver in it. “How could you let someone live with such a knowledge?”
Lady Silver stood up again. “He does not know about everything. He’s only Rayne’s best friend. Rayne knows nothing about her past. Or his, for that matter. Trust me, he’s actually better off this way – not knowing everything. He is Rayne’s friend, and there is nothing wrong with that. Remember, I am the leader of the Clan, and what I say goes. This meeting is final. You are dismissed. However, Dream and Aura, I’d like the two of you to stay. We have something that we must talk about.”
Aura, which was the person with the black hair and silver highlights, remained sitting where she was, while Dream, who was a short girl (only about 17) with long brown hair, got up and went to sit next to Aura in the back of the room. The two didn’t look happy at Lady Silver’s decision, but, they had come to the conclusion that it was for the best after all. The room was empty now, as Lady Silver motioned for the two girls left in the room to come to her.
Dream was the first to speak to Lady Silver, not even giving her a chance to speak for herself. “Why did you decide on letting Max keep his memories? You do know that he’ll end up finding out about the whole story, right?”
“Well, you don’t know that for a fact, now, do you? One of the reasons I’m going to let Max keep them, is, well, the two of them – Max and Rayne, I mean – they seem happy together. The two of them are never apart, even though they are only 10 years old.” There was actually a look in Lady Silver’s eyes as she spoke, that neither Aura or Dream could figure out. ‘That’s all they need to know about Max. I can’t speak anymore. I made a promise that no one would ever figure out the truth about him until it was time. As much as I want to tell them, I cannot.’ She thought to herself.
Dream looked at Lady Silver, and there was a look of worry in her eyes. “Is there something that you want to tell us? There’s something more about Max, isn’t there? And you’re just not telling us, right?” She prompted.
Lady Silver flinched and glanced away slightly. “No, there’s nothing more. Nothing at all.” She sighed. As much as she wanted to tell them, she knew that she couldn’t. It would also be way too much for anyone else to bear. “Now, if you could be so kind as to leave me in peace. There are things that I must attend to.”
Aura spoke for the first time, and she addressed Lady Silver. “If you wish, but, remember this, if something happens, this will all fall on you. Good-bye, Lady Silver. Come on, Dream, let’s go.” The two sisters walked out the door at the same time, leaving Lady Silver to herself.
‘I’m sorry. I can’t betray my son. Not yet. Max will have to do this on his own. No one can help him, no matter how much that he needs it. He walks only with Rayne. She’s the only one that can help him.’

Ignore the code. It's for NaNo. Chapter 4 should be up later on!

<strong>Chapter 3 ~ What Happened at the School</strong>

“Class?” spoke the teacher of a 10th grade science class. His name was Mr. Xelon, and he wasn’t one to love children. But, he was a teacher. That was his job. He spoke again, this time, a little louder. “Class! Pay attention for once in your lives!” He just about yelled it out loud, but, he wanted to say ‘Pay attentions. You idiots.’
Well, you could say that that had gotten the classes attention. They were in 10th grade, it’s not like they were in kindergarten, and needed to be watched every second of the day.
“Now,” spoke Mr. Xelon, who finally looked glad for silence, “since I have your undivided attention – as rare as that may be – I’d like to introduce you to your new classmates. Their names are Allen and Kirara.”
There was one girl, Rayne, who’s head shot up at the mention of Allen’s name. ‘What’s he doing here?!’ she thought to herself, not wanting to voice her shock out to everyone.
However, the teacher noticed Rayne flinch, and walked over to her. “Are you okay?” he asked. What none of the people knew at their middle school was, that Mr. Xelon was actually Rayne’s uncle. So, naturally, he was worried about the girl. “Do you need to leave?” He prompted.
Rayne just shuddered and shook her head. “No, I’ll be okay. I just shocked myself, that’s all.” She attempted to assure her uncle that everything was okay, but, she didn’t think that Mr. Xelon believed her - not one bit. “I think I just haven’t been getting enough sleep…” she paused and added in a low voice “…even you know about the problems I’m dealing with.”
Rayne’s uncle nodded and went back to the front of the classroom, and finished the introductions. He sent Kirara to sit near Anna, another one of Rayne’s classmates. He sent Allen to sit next to Max. You could tell that Max felt uncomfortable sitting next to Allen, just because of Rayne’s reaction. He sent a look over to Rayne, hoping to catch her eye.
Rayne noticed Max and gave a little nod of her head. ‘She doesn’t feel right with Allen here. I can tell. Maybe I should ask her what’s going on later. I didn’t like how she flinched. It looked like she knew him from somewhere. But…how can this be? I’ve known Rayne since she was 5, and I don’t think there was any Allen in our group of friends…’ Max just sighed and went back to reading his book.

<em>Later on that same day</em>

Rayne had been walking down the hallway at the end of the day when it happened. She was just at her locker, when Allen – the new boy, who seemed to like to follow her around, like he was stalking her or something. Actually, there was a determined look in Allen’s eyes, like he wanted something from her, and was willing to do anything to get what he wants.
The girl at her locker turned, when Allen approached. “Yes? You’re Allen, right?” she asked the boy who had come near her. Rayne knew his name, but, she wanted to act like she didn’t even know Allen at all.
Allen was shocked. “Wait, you don’t know me?” He started to walk closer to Rayne, and you could tell that he didn’t like that Rayne <em>didn’t</em> know him.
“Nope. Not at all. I have no clue who you are.” Rayne flinched when she said this, because Allen was giving her a look that she didn’t like.
“Well, you were right on one thing… My name is Allen.”
“You know something… I think I might have heard that name somewhere before. You sit next to Max in science, don’t you?” Rayne asked the boy who had come up to her. Even though she already knew him, she felt like asking him questions about himself. “Wait… You do know Max. Right?” she suddenly asked, because she realized that Allen might not know Max by name yet.
“Wait, that’s his name?” Allen asked himself about the boy he sat next to in class. “Oh,I didn’t know that was his name. Hmm, maybe next time I should ask him before I jump around. But, then again, Rayne, is he always the quiet type? Or, is it just me?” Allen wondered out loud, hoping the girl would answer his questions.
“Actually, Max has been like that for as long as I can remember. He’s the quiet type, trust me on that.” Rayne answered Allen
But, that was not the answer that he wanted to hear. ‘Maybe… I can get her to say something else. I know she’s hiding something from me. I could notice, just from the way she flinched in Mr. Xelon’s class. “I noticed that Max kept looking at me, like he hated me. I think it might have had to do with you. I noticed your reaction when I was introduced…-“
Rayne cut him off, and she was mad. “First off, Max does things how he wants to do them. And, second… I don’t care about my reaction when you came into the room. My phone vibrated the moment you walked in, and it shocked me. That’s all.” She spat the last few words out, and made Allen jump back a few steps.
“Umm… O…kay…” That was all Allen could reply with. He was hurt, at the fact that Rayne could even get so mean, and another fact, that he was being lied to. ‘I know for a fact, that Max does not act on his own. He’s always by Rayne’s side, and is willing to do anything for her. I can tell that she had something to do with Max’s reaction.’ He thought this as Rayne stalked away, and you could hear her footsteps, and they were very heavy and loud.

You can double post as long as they are separate chapters. There must be a three hour gap between chapters, though. (I'll get around to reading this once I'm done writing my 3 thousand words for the day...)

Ahh, so THAT'S how it goes. Thanks for letting me know.

Chapter 4 ~ Alone and Confused, Just Max

Max was walking from class, when it happened. The end bell had just rung, and Rayne already zipped out the door. Something was wrong, and Max could tell, just by the look on her face. Something was very wrong, and he didn’t even think of asking before she left – she was out of the door that fast. He watched her go, and gathered up his things. Max didn’t even bother waiting at the usual spot – he just walked out the door and got on his bus (which was quite a long and quiet ride home, for a Friday).
The 10th grade boy just sat in the back of the bus, and thought. He thought about Rayne, and he thought about Allen and that new girl, whose name Max didn’t even know. But, he had a rough day, so, he could see why he couldn’t remember anything. The only thing he really could remember, which didn’t come as a shock to him, was Rayne’s reaction to Allen. ‘Rayne knows Allen from somewhere… But, who is he? And, why is he here?’ Max thought to himself on the way home. ‘I could tell..something was wrong…she never flinches like that.’ He continued to think about how Rayne could even know Allen, when his phone started ringing. It was someone calling him, but, he didn’t know who it was. So, he didn’t even answer it. He just let it ring, and hopefully they would leave a voicemail, so he could figure out who it was.
As soon as his phone stopped ringing, the bus had stopped, and it was his turn to get off. He made his way to the front of the bus – almost smacking someone in the head with his backpack. ‘Reminder to self, clean out bag when I get the chance.’ He made a silent note to himself.
As he walked up the road – he still had a half a mile to walk – his thoughts really wandered. They went from Rayne, to Allen and even to his favorite manga, Rozen Maiden. You couldn’t even get his attention, though, he was that lost in his thoughts.
Max continued to walk up the road, and it had started to rain, and Max didn’t even notice, not until some driver had the bright idea to drive right near Max, and splash him with water as they drove by. “Damn, when did it start to rain?” he asked himself, and even then, he didn’t know the answer. “I guess I never even noticed…oh well…” Max trailed off as he walked up the steps to his house.
Once he got there, he noticed that there was no one home. ‘I should have guessed that.’ Max thought to himself. ‘They must all be out for the day, and that means that they will not be home for quite a while. I guess me and Fire get the house to ourselves.’
Fire was Max’s little tabby orange cat. He was a skinny cat, but, he had a lot of fur, so, he really looked like a chubby cat. He always greeted Max at the door, with a purr of happiness that his owner had come home from school. Normally, Max greeted Fire by giving him a snack, or even a pat on the head. But, today was different. All Max did was walk by his cat, not even petting him. Something was bugging him, you could easily see that. And, anyways, Max normally wasn’t this rude – not even to his own cat (as weird as that sounds).
As Max walked by, ignoring Fire, the cat let out a purr of confusion. If Fire could have spoken, he probably would have said something like “What’s up? Why are you ignoring me?” …but, as everyone knows, cats can’t speak. The cat decided to follow his owner, just to see if something really was up. But, once Max had entered his own room, the door shut before Fire could get a chance to follow his owner in. The cat sat near the entrance to the door, lifting a paw to scratch the door.
After shutting his door, Max could hear Fire – his cat – scratching on the door. He took no heed to it, though, because he had a lot of other things on his mind, and his cat wasn’t one of them. So, he sat down on his bed, and grabbed for his computer.
With Max’s school, you do most of your homework online, so, in case you need help at home, you can just e-mail a teacher and ask them. It made everything easier, for both the students and the teachers. Because, the teachers were not spending every waking moment at school, helping the students with their work. And, it was good for the students, because they get more free time during the day to do what they want. It was amazing, to do homework online. But, it’s not as fun as some might think. The computers are supplied by the school, and they put some kind internet tracker in the hard drive, so, you have to watch what you go on. It’s a small price to pay, for having a computer of your own.
Max had gotten on to his computer, and he had a version of MSN downloaded. It wasn’t the best version, but, it would do. He logged on, and noticed that someone had added him to their user list. The display name was “Remorse Rose” and it was an e-mail address that Max didn’t recognize. It got even stranger, when the person messaged him.

Remorse Rose: Hello. This is Max, right?
Maximum: Umm….that would be true. Might I ask who you are?
Remorse Rose: Oh, you know who I am. Trust me, you know. You might not remember me a whole lot, but, you remember me.
Maximum: This is starting to creep me out. Exactly WHO are you?
Remorse Rose: It’ll all become clear to you in good time. Don’t worry.
Maximum: I’m confused…should I really know you?
Remorse Rose: Haha, it will all become clear in good time.
Remorse Rose has logged off.

Max himself had logged off, the same time Remorse Rose had. He didn’t know if it was a boy or a girl, but, he didn’t let it bother him for the time being. However, there was something about the way that the person talked, that confused him. ‘Remorse Rose…could that be a girl? It seems like something a girl would use. After all, Rose is a girl’s name.’ he though silently to himself. He decided not to let himself get to worked up about it, and he went back to his work.

Next Chapter will be up soon!

Name Changes :
Rayne - is now Skye
Max - is now Jay
Allen - is now Kyler

Chapter 5 ~ Thinking It Over

Skye kept on walking. She walked away from Kyler, and his lies. She knew that Kyler was lying. She didn’t know him from anywhere in particular, but, she did know that he looked familiar. Even though she couldn’t put her finger on it, she kept seeing his face somewhere before. Might it have been when she was little? Maybe she used to live near Kyler. Well, she didn’t really know, but, she decided that it wasn’t going to get to her. That didn’t even matter to her now. All that did matter, was that she kept her grades up, and that she kept her friendship with Jay. Speaking of Jay… Skye thought to herself, I should apologize to him for acting like an idiot earlier. I hope he doesn’t think that I really meant to be rude… I’d hate myself if he really thought that.

While Skye kept walking, a thought occurred to her. What happens if it turns out that I’m lying? Do I really know Kyler and Holly from somewhere? It’s a small world, after all, so I just might know them, and I don’t realize it. Hell, for all I know, I could live next door to them and I never knew it.

Skye just stopped and thought about what she had just said. She shivered at the thought of lying to Jay, and the fact that she might actually know Kyler Hazu and his sister, Holly.
Something’s really wrong here, and someone could have easily noticed it, just by looking at Skye. Even people who didn’t know the girl could have noticed it, and that meant it was really, really bad…enough to even make Jay worry – if he had seen her, that is. Which, had he seen, her, it wouldn’t turn out very well, and then their friendship might even go down the drain. That wouldn’t exactly be the best thing on the planet if that happened, because Skye’s known Jay for quite some time, and she’s taken a liking to him, but, she herself doesn’t want to admit it. Even though, it wouldn’t be shocking if Jay figured it out himself. Skye thought to herself, stifling a laugh. I’ve been like this for a few years… I guess. Even though I keep telling myself otherwise, I know I’m lying. Maybe. To be honest, I really don’t know anymore.

Skye had reached her door, by the time her thoughts had stopped, and she looked around. It looked like it was going to rain later, as the sky was getting darker and darker by the hour. It looked bright this morning, but, now it’s looking like it’s going to poor something nasty. That’s not exactly the best thing on the planet, considering that Skye has to walk if she wants (or needs) to go anywhere. She can’t drive, and she doesn’t have a mother or father to take her anywhere. Not like it matters, anyway. I can ask someone to give me a ride if I really need it. I mean, I can even ask Jay’s mother and father for a ride if I really need it.
The odd thing is… Jay’s parents aren’t even his real mother and father. He was adopted when he was really small, and he doesn’t really remember it, so, they all go along with saying that Anna and Mark are Jay’s mom and dad. As long as Jay’s happy, it doesn’t really matter, and, it never did matter.

“Hello?” a voice spoke and jolted Skye from her thoughts. “Are you Skye?” There was something about this voice, and Skye could tell that it wasn’t Kyler, which was good.

“Yes, that would be me.” Skye said, slightly turning around. When she turned, she saw a girl with long brown hair, who was short for her age. “What can I help you with?”
“My name is Dream. And, I’ve come to ask for your help.”

Ooooo.... I'm really interested now!
Thanks! I hoped someone would comment! <3

Chapter 6 ~ Jay’s Flight

Finally done with his work for the day, Jay put away his school stuff. He needed something to keep him entertained, but, he had a rough time decideing on what he should do. Even if he went to see Skye, he wasn't sure if she would talk to him. After what had happened, and the look on her face… Jay didn’t even know if Skye wanted anything to do with him, or Kyler and his sister, Holly – they both seemed kind of nice, considering the reaction that Skye gave when they entered the classroom that day. If you think about it, it was really scary, seeing your best friend look so messed up, and there was nothing that you could do about it.

“Jay?” spoke a voice from around the corner, outside of his door. He could tell that as the voice got closer, that it was his mother, who’s name matched her personality; Flora. “Dinner will be ready soon. Are you okay with chicken?”

“Huh?” Jay jolted upright, shocked by his mother’s entrance into his room. She didn’t normally come into his room, unless she was looking for something important. And dinner wasn’t usually that important. Jay’s parents left him alone, they figured that he was old enough not to be nagged about everything, and he could get his work done all on his own, and in the amount of time he had, quite efficiently as well. Not like it really mattered much, anyways. Once Jay was done with school, he was going to move out on his own (maybe on his own...) and get a job to support him and anyone else that would be living there with him. He also thought about going to Penn State University, which was located not very far from where Jay lived – maybe an hour, two hours…something like that. Depends on what roads and routes that you take.

“Jay? Hello? Dinner. An answer would be nice.” The only thing that pissed off Jay’s mother, was when Jay didn’t answer her. Maybe it was because he was busy, or maybe it was because he just didn’t want to answer.

“What? Yeah, sure. Chicken’s okay.” Replied Jay, not really paying much attention to what his mother was actually saying. Jay gave up caring what his mother said for quite some time. A lot of what she said wasn’t really important, and what was (In her eyes), was still stupid for Jay to even listen to.

“Jay Maximilian Watson!” she rarely used Jay’s full name, unless she was really mad. Which was rare as it was. “Are you even listening to me? Oh, my God! Once again. I swear boy, how are you going to last once you leave, if you don’t listen to anyone?”

His mom was on one of her things again. Always bugging Jay for no reason, saying this and saying that, when none of it really mattered. Jay just wanted to be left alone. So he could work on his stuff without being harassed by his overbearing mother and her “rules” of proper learning and other shit like that.

“Mom. “ Jay started. He wasn’t happy with his mom, and he was trying to let her know in the easiest way possible. “I don’t really care what you think. I never really did care a whole hell of a lot what you said. And I don’t want you always saying that I’m not going to make it, just because I don’t want to do what you want.”

“Jay. You know I love you and that’s why – “

Now the boy was getting really, really, really mad. Jay couldn’t really take much more of his mother’s annoyingness. “Mom. Do I really need to repeat myself? I don’t care anymore, and I never did. By the way, I hate chicken, damn it!” He shoved his mom out the door and shut and locked it behind her.

“Jay?” The boy’s mom called. “Come on. Please. Tell me what’s wrong.” Jay almost was going to open the door to answer his mom, when he heard something that he would have rather not. “Do I need to get Skye over her to talk some sense into you?”

That had made him mad. Jay’s mother always used Skye as an excuse so she could get her own way around the house. Why his mom did it, Jay’ll never know. “Why do you keep bringing Skye into it? She’s got nothing to do with my attitude.”

Flora gave up, let out a sigh and left the room. “Jay, you’re useless. You keep saying that it’s not your fault, or anyone else’s. I think you really need to look from someone else’s point of view.” She stomped out of the room, leaving nothing but scorn behind her.

Chapter 7 – Revealing the Truth

There was a strange person in Skye’s house. And she was asking for help. She said that her name was Dream, however, the girl didn’t believe this strange person that just walked into her life like that. The girl, who did have brown hair and seemed shorter than Skye, continued to walk up to her.
“Wait.” Skye flinched as Dream started to walk over, and then paused. “You said your name is Dream. How do I know you’re not lying? Who are you? Where do you hail from? What are you doing in my house, and how can I help you?” There were more questions that Skye wanted to ask, but, she decided to keep her mouth shut, in case she couldn’t trust this..this Dream lady.
“My name is Dream. That is true. I can’t tell you yet where I come from – that would be breaking the Code of the Clans. However, what I can tell you is that your help is greatly needed, as we are at a rough time in our 4 Clans, and we need all the help we can get. I also need to get in touch with Jay Watson. Would you happen to know where he resides? There’s something that I must talk with him about. Rumor has it that you’ve taken to hanging out with him quite a lot.”
Skye stopped dead in her tracks. How did this Dream know about her and Jay? Was she watching them both by using some kind of technology not known to mankind yet? She sighed, gathered her thoughts, and spoke calmly. “Yes, I know Jay. He’s my best friend. We do everything together. Might I ask what you need him for?” Skye didn’t think that this lady was going to tell her much of anything.
“Well…since you have a bond with him, and that can’t be broken by a lot... I guess I could tell you. The truth is; I am Jay’s aunt. My sister – his mother, Silver – is wanting him to come back to Lightwood. I was sent to retrieve him. We’ve been watching him for a while now, and we’ve also been watching you, Skye. We’ve seen how you treat him – not that it’s bad – and his mother has decided that it is time for Jay to return and take his rightful place among the Clan of the Moon – as our second in command.”
‘What? Clans? Huh?’ Thought Skye, who was really confused. ‘Jay’s been showing no signs of being any type of royalty. Let alone the son of a leader of an unknown Clan.’
“I can see your expression. Are you confused?” Dream asked Skye, with a tinge of laughter in her voice.
“Yes, would you care to explain this a little more. Who is Silver? What is the Clan of the Moon, and who are the other Clans? Are you in danger?”
Dream sat down on a chair, close to the door. “Well, since you asked, it is my job to answer.” She paused and went on. “I’m part of a Clan called the Clan of the Moon. There are 3 other Clans. The Clan of the Shadows, Stars and Sun. Each Clan lives in a different part of Lightwood forest. Now, though, the leader of the Clan of the Shadows, Kiba, has declared war on the Clan of the Moon, and he’s got the other Clans to help him. We still haven’t figured out why he wants to get rid of our Clan, and I think it’s because he wants power over all the world, and now he’s starting with the Clan of the Moon, and he’ll move on to the other Clans next, until The Clan of the Shadows rules the whole world, with him at the head.”
“So,” Skye started asking, still sort of confused. “This Kiba, is the leader of the Clan of the Shadows…and you think he wants ultimate power?” She sighed, and scratched her head, thoughtfully. “Hmm, did your leader do something to Kiba in the past, so he could get like this?”
Dream sighed, and looked over at Skye. “To be honest…” she started, and she actually hesitated as she spoke. “I really don’t think that he wants power at all. I think he’s mad at Silver leaving him long before the Clans were formed.”
“Wait. How long have the Clans been around?” Skye asked Dream, hoping that she knew the answer. “Because of the way you speak, it doesn’t seem that they’ve been around for long. A few years, at the most.”
“And that’s where you’re wrong. The Clans have been around for many a years. Us in the Clan, we never age.” Dream gazed over at Skye, and the older girl could tell that Skye was even more confused, though, she seemed to slightly understanding what was going on. Because it had to do with her best friend, Jay, that seems to be the only real way she’d understand.
“Then…how old is Jay? You just said that they never age. I’m lost, and you lost me at the whole Clan thing.” Skye stammered. There was no way that she could be in love with someone who was really old. ‘I hope he’s not as old as everyone else. There’s no way that’s even possible. At least I don’t think there is…” Skye thought to herself.
“Ahh, so. It’s Jay you’re worried about. I can see where you’d come off at that. There’s nothing to worry about. Jay’s aging normally. He’s still the same age as you.” Dream let out a little laugh as she continued. “I can see what you’re thinking, dear. I know how you feel about him, and I wouldn’t lie just to make you happy.”
Skye stepped back. This lady could read her thoughts? This didn’t seem good. ‘I guess that I’ll need to watch what I think around Dream. She really can read thoughts. I haven’t said anything about my feelings for Jay. Ever. Not even to my friends…not even to Jay himself. This is really bad. I’m not sure if I should continue to talk to this person…maybe I shouldn’t tell her where Jay is either. I don’t want him taken away from me.’
Dream laughed. And she seemed to really enjoy this “talk” between the two of them. “Don’t worry.” She laughed, and smiled. “I’m not taking him away from you, dear. I wouldn’t even think about doing that. I don’t see any reason to take away a friend from you…or do anything to hurt my nephew in any way. We’ve been watching you both, remember that. We can see how the both of you act with each other.”
“Wait. How long have you all been watching? And who is “we”? Care to explain that one? I don’t think it’s right having people watching me…when I don’t even know who they are. Or why. Please, don’t hide anything from me. I can take anything you throw at me.” She paused. “Not literally, if you catch my drift.”
