As most people know the World Cup started today. So I'm making this thread to discuss about this event, that is happening in Germany (the favourite to be the champion). I was thinking if make this thread was a good idea, because I don't know if you guys like soccer or plan to watch it. I'll post in a quote my thoughts about the first fase ranks, and I'd like you do the same. Besides discuss about the tournament.

Group A:
Germany One of the favorites to be the champion.
Costa Rica I'm not sure, but maybe...
Poland
Ecuador

Group B:
England I think they will rank in 2nd
Paraguay
Trinidad & Tobago
Sweden They have a great team this year

Group C:
Argentina I wish Brazil and Argentina in the final match
Ivory Coast
Serbia & Montenegro
Netherlands It's a easy group to Netherlands and Argentina

Group D:
Mexico They are always a good team
Iran
Angola
Portugal The 2nd in Eurocup

Group E:
Italy They are one of the favorites
Ghana
USA They always pass in the 2nd, and this year won't be different, I hope
Czech Republic

Group F:
Brazil I don't need to say anything here
Croatia
Australia
Japan The best team of Asia

Group G:
France I don't believe in their "old players"
Switzerland
South Korea was 4th in 2002
Togo

Group H:
Spain One of the best teams of all the world
Ukraine
Tunisia
Saudi Arabia
It's hard to say the 2nd place in this group.

I hope any team break the Germany supremacy.
 
You badly overestimate South Korea, the only reason it was 4th was due to homefield advantage.

And don't rule out the Czech Republic. I know the Italians are much better in terms of who's favored, but the Czechs are 2nd in the world right now.

...here's hoping. Though I count myself optimistic just thinking we'll make it out of the first round.
 
England at 2? We've got a better team this year but that seems a little optimistic right now.

They were performing well against Germany so there's still hope yet.

Hislop was AMAZING.

I agree with your predictions everywhere else. All of the groups seem to have 2 clear cut teams who will advance, though I'm not discounting Ivory Coast yet.

I agree with you. So far, it is the most amazing game. Did you see when that game ended? All Trinidad players commemorated the tie as they were winning the World Cup.
 
Argentina won 2-1, and it's first in his group! excellent!
On friday: Argentina Vs Serbia-Montenegro.
 
There's going to be lot of pissed off Socceroos fans tomorrow, if this match finishes 1-0 to Japan. Being someone to plans to live permanently one day in that country, I have to admit I'm feeling like I have somewhat divided loyalties here, but there was no way that goal should have been allowed, with the keeper clearly pushed out of the way by the Japanese striker.
 
OMG!!! Czech Republic 3 - 0 USA That USA team is the best team that USA have ever played in a World Cup, and Czech Republic beated them (in an easily way). Czech Republic(and Italy, though) will probably be the team that Group F will first face on the Playoffs.

No one expected that, since Australia scored around the 40:00, in the second half.

I'm looking foward to Brazil x Croatia tomorrow.

Well, thank you. But I'm not so sure 'bout our chances against Italy. They have good team too and we will have much hard work to beat them. Especially now, when Koller is hurt.

Today, Ecuador 3 - 0 Costa Rica, with that score Costa Rica and Poland are the fist teams that have no chances to advance to the playoffs, but they must stay in Germany just to fill the schedulle.
And peno, I heard Köller will be ok to face La Squadra Azzurra. ;-)
