You know, the episodes that actually advance what little storyline this show has.

Of course, the one that leaps immediately to mind here is the end of the Aqua/Magma plot. Seriously, what the hell was that?

Frankly, I dislike most gym episodes.

Yeah, they battles really seem to be stretched in some of the gym episodes, but they usually have some "thing" that makes them interesting.

I liked the Aqua/Magma plot, even the little unsatisfying ending, since it was somewhat different, at least.

The gym battles usually have one of ash's pokemon be defeated rather quickly, one defeats on or two of the gym leaders pokemon, but get defeated by the strongest pokemon of the gym, and one pokemon pulls of the win on the strongest pokemon, and is the hero of the day.

How could anyone dislike the Misty Gym Battle? They even ditched Brock for the episode so the battle wouldn't be constantly interrupted by analysis and explanation!

I usually hate episodes with Pokemon-of-the-day that have some stupid quality to them, like Bagon wanting to fly or whatever.

The worst storyline plot? I guess the Magma/Aqua one. Why so? My guess is that they were far more interested in contest and gym arcs and the two teams arc was probably tacked on as an afterthought. They didn't really know what to do with it.

Now they seemed to have learned how to do better with the Team Galactic plot now.

I still think the Fuu and Ran Gym Battle in Houen is one of the most ridiculous...things ever.

The "Thunder Armor" dues ex machina? While it certainly did not seem "realistic" (as far as going by game mechainics are concerned, although it could be related to Swellow's Guts ability coming into play). I will admit that it was pretty awesome to watch. But it might be because of the BGM.

I don't like the second Whitney episode... "A Dairy Tale Ending," was it?

Anyway, I've only seen the dub, so I could only comment on that (re: rematch stuff), but the whole battle was bizarre. Ash was fighting Whitney so that, if he won, he could have an official gym rematch? So basically he was having a rematch for a rematch? Does that make any kind of sense at all? And then he wins at the end and the match is worthy of a badge even though A) Ash used terrain to his advantage that he otherwise wouldn't have available to him and B) It was basically a 3-on-1 match (yes, I know he killed Whitney's Clefairy and Nidorina in the last episode, but still)?

They were really making up that crap as they went along.

in terms of worst plot episode, i would have to throw the Mirage Kingdom eps in there. I mean, aside from Togepi evolving and leaving, nothing really happened XD. The whole concept of the story was kinda bizarre, and this is coming from a devoted Misty fan.

What about that stupid Johto ep where there is an old guy who says Pokemon can't understand human speech? "The Poke-Spokesman" I believe the ep is called.

Most of the Sinnoh gym battles. I did like Maylene's arc, but a majority of them were pretty boring. And then Brock makes them worse.

I agree with you on the Aqua/Magma thing. Soooo much wasted potential there. TWO evil teams with an intense rivalry? That could have been so awesome. I feel like we hardly even got to know Maxie and Archie before they were gone.

I always hated the way that the Indigo League episodes were handled. We barely saw any battles and the one's we did see were all too brief. And the writers were still too focused on the whole stupid they have to show Team Rocket still trying to steal Pokémon during the league.

Thankfully, that problem has been fixed in the later League Conferences.

I also never liked "A Mudkip Mission", the episode where Brock caught Mudkip or "A Staravia Is Born!" when Ash's Starly evolved. Man, that's such a BORING Episode.

Let's not forget half the Kanto Gym Episodes. It always bothered me how Ash earned some of his badges back then.

I do wish the Indigo league actually let us see full battles, but I cut the writers some slack because it was their first tournament at the time. I enjoy the tournament when I go back and rewatch it, but I do wish we got more battles out of it.

True, but it kinda makes sense, considering that Ash was still a newbie trainer, so it wouldn't make sense for him to beat all the Gym Leaders on the first attempt or something like that.

They could have just hired Meowth. After all, he speaks both. I don't understand why Team Rocket doesn't charge for interpreting for Pokemon. After all, they're always broke.

I know what you mean. Only about four or so battles.:(But, like you said, it was the first tournament.

And then Brock makes them worse.

Ahem. Excuse me, but Brock only does the contrary.
