Since the Marvel/Capcom and Tatsunoko/Capcom games, I've been thinking this for a while.

I know Ninty has Mario, Pokemon, and Zelda for the most part and Sega has Sonic and others.

Could this work?

Does Sega have ENOUGH to contribute to a fighting game? Nintendo obviously does, but I'm not so certain about Sega.

Well, seeing as the Sonic franchise itself currently has approximately ten and a half billion characters, it could probably be managed.

But then it's not really Sega vs Nintendo, it's how many Nintendo icons can Sonic and Shadow kick the crap out of.

Not really the same thing. Might as well call it... Super Smash Bros Brawl Plus.

And the supposed dlc straight to sd card thing starting with guitar hero 5 on wii will be launched with just this for ssbb. BELIEVE!

Sega only has a few characters that you would actually want to play as and as previously mentioned the character pool is generally slim overall. While it will never happen, Sony vs Nintendo would be a dream game.

Yeah, when you think of Sega the first thing that comes to mind is Sonic. in fact, that's the ONLY thing that comes to mind.

Nintendo has everything. Mario, Link, Pikachu, Kirby, Samus, Ness, you name it, Nintendo has it. Sega? Well that would be all Sonic. Unless you make it legal to put characters from the Bleach games in it, then this would never work. This is why we have Brawl.

Err, yeah the only thing I can think of for SEGA is Sonic, besides some of the old genesis games (a lot were licensed).
Nintendo would just need to Zerg rush them 8)

The Sega slate is not *that* slim. Too bad they're only known for their now abysmal Sonic franchise though...

They've got the Sonic crew (though I despise anything past Sonic and Knuckles for the Genesis), Phantasy Star characters, Vectorman (not OWNED by Sega but I imagine they could get him) Valkyria Chronicles characters, Sakura Wars characters, and of course Virtua Fighter...

Yeah, people. Sega's franchises aren't as well-known as Nintendo's but they're there. In addition to fate's mentions, I can think of Alex Kidd, Super Monkey Ball, NiGHTS, Ecco the Dolphin, Samba de Amigo and House of the Dead off the top of my head.

I think it would be really cool. Sure we have those Olympic Games things, but they're not all that spectacular. But with a good enough control system and atmosphere, these two former rival companies' characters duking it out would be amazing.

I would give an arm and a lung to see Mario and Ichigo face off.

It just shows that Sega has lost its touch if all that most people can think of is Sonic the Hedgehog and that’s about it, but hey Sega is just as bad since Sonic is the franchise that they give the most love to. Even the upcoming Sega Kart racer is called, Sonic and Sega All-Star Racing.

A Nintendo vs. Sega Super Smash Bros.-style game is unlikely, but if it ever did happen it would be great to see characters from these Sega franchises:

Sonic the Hedgehog (of course)

Phantasy Star

Nights

Amigo from Samba de Amigo (I don’t know why, but the idea of a monkey that uses maracas as a weapon comes across as funny to me)

Billy Hatcher

Golden Axe

Streets of Rage

Vector Man

Alex Kidd (for the hardcore old-school Sega fans)

Joe Musashi from Shinobi (come on a ninja in a fighting game would be perfect and I would love to see Joe and Link duel)

Virtua Fighter (I doubt they would include any of the characters from the series though since this series always prided itself as a hardcore strategy realistic fighting game, but it would still be cool to see characters like Akira Yuki and El Blaze be included)

ToeJam and Earl (I left this for last because it seems that Sega hates this series with a passion (there two Genesis games weren't included in any of the recent Sega Collections) and having characters from Virtua Fighter would be more likily then the two residents from Funkotron, but I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for ToeJam and Earl to be in Sonic and Sega All-Star Racing).

I will discredit this but for one reason: The rivalry is DEAD. All of us that are old enough to remember it have gotten over it by now. Mario vs. Sonic at the Olympic Games and SSBB should've satisfied any long held desire for the two to face each other. The nostalgia factor on Sega's side is minimal compared to Nintendo. Also, anyone that would try to recapture the essence of the old rivalry must've never left the time of SNES and Genesis if that is possible. (I could be surprised) I see no reason to revive this idea, it's silly.

Agreed, that the rivalry is dead. It was dead even before Sega went platform only, but it is sad seeing that so many fans now think of Sega with Sonic and nothing else.

Again as I wrote in my original post in this thread that isn’t only video game fans fault, but Sega’s as well.

For someone that grew up with the Super NES vs. Sega Genesis rivalry. Nintendo vs. Sega was HUGE, but I tell you the first time I played Mario vs. Sonic in Brawl. I couldn’t help, but smile during the whole first match. Just shows the power nostalgia can have on a person.
