I was originally going to ask what Pokemon people think Ash should catch if he had a Master Ball, but instead I wonder how everyone thinks Ash would handle the prospect of using a Master Ball.

Hopefully he wouldn't just throw it in a Wishcash's mouth (though considering how May caught Munchlax after it ate the ball, I don't get why a Master Ball failed - yay for plot consistency) - but does anyone think Ash would actually use it in the way that you would on the games and catch a legendary, or would his approach to making friends with the Pokemon he catches and basically asking them all for permission mean that a Master Ball would be counter to his style.

I found Ash's capture of Palpitoad really odd in that it seemed to be the first time he caught a Pokemon that he hadn't befriended in some way before hand. Would that change in BW make Ash more likely to take advantage of the power of a Master Ball?

Certainly don't think it's likely that the anime will ever do another Master Ball plot, especially not one involving Ash getting one, but I'm interested in your thoughts on how Ash would respond, and what situation he would use one in.

My view is that he'd only use one if a Pokemon was injuring itself in the wild and nothing else was working to settle it down - that he would use one for the benefit of the Pokemon; similar to Lance and the red Gyarados.
 
First thing's first.

1. Nero never ate the Master Ball. It caught it in its mouth (you can even see it balancing it on its tongue at the end of the episode. Munchlax actually swallowed it.

2. Ash with a Master Ball? I can't see that happening...
 
It also wasn't his first time just randomly capturing a 'mon without befriending first. A lot of the regional birds say hi.
 
I don't think Ash would ever get a master ball, unless it was like a movie or something and he obtained the masterball and he uses it to save the world once again. Other than that no. :p
 
Ash would never use a masterball because of the fact that it would be too easy. And Ash never ever takes the easy way.
 
Its really odd that the Master Ball doesn't even appear in the anime until the middle of AG, and after that it never appeared ever again. Why did they wait to introduce something from the Red/Blue games all the way till the middle of Hoenn?

I don't think Ash would be that against using it though.
 
He'd probably use it to catch a legendary in a time of an emergency, when reasoning with it fails. But, of course, he'd just release the 'mon after about thirty minutes.
