Would it be better if Ash rotated his Pokemon mid-region?

One problem that's become apparent is Ash's older Pokemon feel like they've been abandoned. We only see them like once after every 200 episodes, and they only get about 1 battle each.

Ash has all these Pokemon waiting in storage that are practically forgotten and unknown to younger fans:

Bulbasaur
Squirtle
Charizard
Snorlax
Kingler
Muk
Tauros
Heracross
Donphan
Bayleef
Cyndaquil
Totodile
Noctowl
Sceptile
Swellow
Corphish
Torkoal
Glalie
Gliscor (possible)

And once DP ends all his Sinnoh Pokemon will be gone too. What exactly is the point of storing all these older Pokemon if we don't see Ash use them anymore?

It would be best if there were small mini-tournaments in each region where Ash would use his older Pokes, that way they'd get screentime and wouldn't interfere with the development of Ash's current Pokemon.

Otherwise it feels like no matter how strong Ash's Pokemon get, they wind up neglected and rot away at Oak's lab for the rest of the series.

While I like a lot of Ash older Pokemon, if they keep switching or just using all of Ash older Pokemon than we wouldn't get to see the fifth Generation Pokemon and so on. Ash and whatever girl Generation are to show off that Pokemon generation. I mean, they can bring in an older type Pokemon once in a while. They'll get brought in some time in the future to proove how strong they got back at Oaks or trained by Ash for whatever reason.

Anime = One giant commercial = Ash using pokemon from current region = Ash not rotating his pokemon.

There you have it.

Then for the most part, why are they being stored if they're not being used anymore? Feels like a prison, instead of getting an ending like Butterfree or Lapras did.

Do you do any different in your games? Do you rotate your pokemon around to spread the love? Do you honestly train your bidoof because you don't want it to get lonely?

Ash PC'ed them. Don't act like you don't either.

Because in the games they're worthless bits of data. In the anime they're individual characters that people like just as much or moreso than the human characters.

I don't expect them to be on Ash's team obviously as there's new Pokemon to promote every saga, but showing them for small mini-arcs in tournaments in the middle of a saga would be nice.

Its a shame because the Pokemon that we enjoy on Ash's roster in 1 saga get little to no screentime in the next after they leave.

I said in another thread that it'd be nice to see two/three parter tournaments of certain types

I think this is the best idea to get old pokemon back once in a while.

I kinda wish Ash would catch more than just 5 pokemon every region just so he could switch between pokemon and still advertise the current series. Like they did in Kanto but have him actually use them before the league and not just let them rot at Oak's (Muk, Kingler(then a Krabby), Tauros)

I wouldn't want a full rotation because it would upset what little character development they have for Ash's current Pokemon. I would be okay with some cameos here and there from the older Pokes, but you can't expect the anime to not feature the newest Gen Pokes.

Let's see. From your list, these are the ones I wish to see in Sato's team for either 1 battle or 2:

-Bayleef
-Cyndaquil
-Totodile
-Noctowl
-Heracross/Corphish

Heracross should have done a lot more during the Battle Frontier so thus giving him another shot, but I do like to see Corphish again. The rest have only been seen and not participate in battles since the Johto league.

Yeah, it'd be better for Ash to do this. But didn't he do it a few times before? I can't remember...

It's nice to see the old pokemon get out for a bit. They did that in BF right? I really enjoyed that. But I wouldn't them to be used at the expense of his current team who deserve as much screentime as they all got in their respective regions.

Maybe if they just had random occasions (like "filler" slots) where an Oak'd pokemon could just come along and DO something, because I sure do miss some of the oldies :(

I agree there should be the occasional episode where Ash brings back one of his older Pokemon every once in a while (even you've got to admit that that's one thing the writers did right in Johto). So as for the BW anime, that's all a mystery - but there's a 99% chance that the ones I've bolded will be making appearances come July. As for the rest of them, only time will tell. Let's not get into that argument again, though.

^ This says how I feel nicely.

Though to be quite honest, I would want to see some pokés and never want to see some others :p

here's a thought what if next gen instead of a "wild card" slot they used that slot for Ash's older pokemon to call on and switch them kinda like back up, sure they wouldn't be used as much as the current pokemon but it'd be better than not being used at all.

While I know that Ash will use his Sinnoh team to defeat Paul, it would be funny to see Ash say, "All right, Paul...you wanna talk trash? Now this is happening!"

Then Ash procedes to call upon Charizard, Sceptile, Squirtle, Snorlax, etc. and dominates the crap out of that guy.

It's a shame that some of Ash's most popular Pokemon are unknown to younger fans.

Sceptile used to be as popular as the Kanto starters back when AG was airing, now nobody remembers it. Corphish was once viewed as Ash's funniest Pokemon, now nobody remembers it. Swellow was viewed as Ash's best bird, now nobody remembers it.

It pains me that Ash's Hoenn team is being forgotten. That was the first truly well developed team Ash ever had. It was a great step-up from the travesty that was Ash's Johto team, but nobody remembers them anymore.

"Why are the Hoenn team no longer seen as important?" thread?

I wouldn't say that people have forgotten about the Hoenn team, there's just no need to really bring them up unless the topic calls for it. Most topics about the current anime do not.

Really? Sceptile feels like he's been forgotten to me.

People remember Charizard and Torterra/Infernape are current, but Sceptile now seems ignored as if he never happened. Which is a damn shame.
