i started writing this story about a young girl who gets her first pokemon in an unexpected way, the story would center around the road to becoming the champion... which i know is a little cliche but i think "becoming the master" is kind of the point of pokemon, and anyone who plays the games can relate to it. i haven't yet typed a first chapter but when i do i'll be sure to post it for feedback.

Well, there are quite a lot of stories where the starter gets a Pokemon in an unexpected way and makes their way to becoming a master.
