Would you like no Gym and League story for Satoshi for the next gen anime?

Would you like no Badge or League quest for the Gen VI anime series?

We don't know whether Satoshi, Pikachu, and the Rocket-Dan will be characters in the X and Y anime series, but if they are, would you like a plot-driven story instead of the usual Badge quest and League? If so, how should a story like that be executed? The writers are doing this with Episode N and possibly Da!, so would you like it if they did this for Gen VI too?

It is getting a little too Boring so I wish they Could that for Ash, Pikachu, and Team Rocket If They Do Come Back.

It's pretty obvious that Ash and Pikachu are going to be staying given how long they've been around and they are the main characters. Team Rocket will probably stick around too. That being said, I don't see what else they could do to promote the games besides another Gym badge quest. I think that the only way they wouldn't do that at the start of the next series is if the games aren't following that format either, but it's highly unlikely that's going to happen. Plus, I don't think that the writers would do a great job with something else for Ash and his friends to travel around for without feeling like a stretch.

If this was a story driven anime of typical length (26 odd episodes), then I would absolutely love that. Heck even some kind of gag based series or slice of life series with little story would work in that format. The possibilities of the Pokemon world are immense, so it's a shame that the series' format (and to an extent the nature of the source material) limits them to being so formulaic.

As the show is a merchandise driven anime whose length is at the mercy of the game developers, I just can't see that working.

It seems the N saga and the upcoming island arc are an experiment on Ash traveling without actually competing in anything. It's quite interesting that this is the first time Ash isn't collecting badges or whatever, he's just traveling.

With TR most likely gone at the end of the generation, I wouldn't mind Ash taking a backseat for a bit and being the mentor of two new heroes before they phase him out. Except unlike Brock, Ash would still battle and compete in mini tournaments

I would want plot driven series, but I don't think the show would be the same without gym battles. Perhaps it could contain both. There could be an added plot based on the games with some gym challenges in between, as long as they're good.

No thanks, The new island thing looks boring as (I'm not a fan of most fillers) and I'd rather he challenged gyms. It gives him something to do and a reason for his pokemon to develop. Also, there is no way he would take a back seat/ mentor roll. Its Ash, he loves battling and training and competition. It just wouldn't be right at all. If there is a badge quest in the games (I don't know why they wouldn't be) then Ash will do it in the anime.

But yea, Id way rather he did a badge quest, just make it better than the Unova quest

I don't think that Ash is good for anything but battle-oriented quests. But I'd like it if a new character had a story-driven quest that had nothing to do with collecting symbols, participating in tournaments/contests or becoming a master. Sadly, the series being stretched out is a problem (even a duration of three years is a very long time).

there is absolutely no reason as to if and why team rocket will exit the series. i dont know why you would even think that because nothing is foreshadowing that idea

I like a good balance myself for example the Legend of Thunder arc we see Jimmy and his two hometown friends come to help a legendary Pokemon along with an evil team (Team Rocket) and even a character from the games (Eugine or however you spell his name the guy obsessed with Suicune).

However, I liked it so much I would have enjoyed seeing Jimmy on his journey collecting badges and tournaments.

BW series really played it out until gym/tournaments were spoiled rotten. I know it was due to no more contests but still. Maybe they'll re-vamp the plot of the series next generation. I don't think Ash will be gone considering he's the main character and that interview with the creator of the show said that Ash won't become a master until the very end of the series (if I remember correctly) that being said I'm sure gyms will be plugged in there somewhere. Considering the games will most likely have them as well.

Plot driven episodes make more sense to me because they flow together to the point that you don't wanna miss one episode due to cliffhangers and whatnot, we get to see some back stories on certain people/Pokemon/things , character/Pokemon development and emotions especially more screen time for the legendary Pokemon of a generation because they are the real mascots when it comes to the video game merchandising.

no thanks i actually like see the gym leaders in animation and seeing thier personaties revealed no badge quest mean little chance of that happening.

What I'd like is a gym/league story for a rookie trainer from whatever the next region is, with Ash along as a mentor instead of a competitor. Of course, it'd work better if Ash would actually win a league.

if that happens this maybe the beginning of the end of an era

No gyms? Then what the hell is he supposed to be doing then? Gyms and gymbattles are the foundation of the games and the show. If they don't take the main character to do just that then what's the point? And I don't know why people are bringing up Jimmy? Even though he was shown taking down villains didn't mean he wasn't doing gymbattles. They wasn't enough time to show him going through badge after badge.

Come on! Of course they are staying, and of course there's a League! As long as Pokemon Gyms keep on main series games, the anime will always be that way!

Thing is, collecting badges & taking part in the League IS the Plot, or at least a very large portion of it. It's a big part of playing the games, so it's required to happen in the show.

However, it would be nice if they mixed Gyms & Leagues with more story, like in most Manga stories or how DP gave them a fair amount of depth & scope (at least when compared to the other series. Especially BW).

A little of Column A mixed with a little of Column B would be nice. Though heck, anything to cut down on crappy fillers is just fine by me.

I think it's possible to have a story without a badge quest, but the anime will never do it. The anime will always be the badge quest because that is what the game is. Episode N only exists because they had nothing else to do and perhaps unfinished business from the scrapped TP stuff. The only way you will see the likes of this is via fanfiction, and that is rare. I personally abandoned the entire idea of involving humans and followed pokemon on their own adventure. (had to be treated like MD with poke-translator automatically on) I would like to see this kind of stuff as an anime, but I know it will never happen because promoting the games comes first.

I'd rather have him challenge gyms - at least it gives Ash something to do.

But I do hope that they'd change the gym battles into something different - like how the Orange Island Gyms had different ways to obtain badges? A surfing battle, a sled battle... etc etc?? Maybe giving the gym battles a few changes for creativity could be nice (of course, the usual gym battles are also okay if done right, but there had been so many stupid wins for Ash that I doubt they'd be able to write anything better on generic battles...)

no. they need to stay. it makes as much sence as having Nascar going from 200mph cars with v8 to those metal pedal cars. i also belive that Ash's goal was to BEAT a leauge and by removing that would remove his overly long and unachiveable goal
