I have no idea if this has been done before, but I don't think it has.

The title is pretty self-explanatory.

Would you rename any characters in Pokemon?

I'd like to keep this game-only, hence why I posted this in Video Games.

For some reason I've always thought that Hilda and Hilbert should be named Freyja/Freya and Andrew. I guess it just looks right.

Here's my (short) list:

Hilda - Freyja/Freya
Hilbert - Andrew
Elesa - Elise/Elektra
Caitlin - Brianna
Brycen - Something that doesn't sound like a ripoff of Pryce.
Kris - Kate
Charon - Pluto

I also think Mars and Jupiter should be something more feminine, after all, the original Mars and Jupiter were guys. (...)

^^Yeah. Because for Ice type gym leaders, they should stop using variants of the word Ice.
Look:

Pryce
Candice
Brycen

When they could do variants of anything else that is frozen. I hope Gen 6 has a female Ice typer named Hailey.

Hilda - Madison

Hilbert - Adrian

I honestly can't think of anythi- wait. Burgh could have totally stayed "Arty." Or some variation thereof, such as "Arthur" or... something that's not "Burgh."

Oh, and semi-related, but I really miss being able to name your rivals. I wish they'd let us do that in BW.

Blue didn't like it when you named him douchebag. So he complained to Game Freak.

In all seriousness, I only really care about the names when it's something really dorky.

Hilbert - Blake/Blair
Hilda - Adele
Glacia - Nieve
Brycen - Idk, something other than Brycen, like Burgh, it's just... ugh.

Arthur fits. I'm starting to wish they had kept that. What happened to the days of Gen 2, when the names didn't make sense with their type and nobody gave a crap? I think they're overdoing it. Nowadays their name almost always sounds like a mispronounciation of their type.

I always looked at Bugsy's name and never once saw the relation...

Falkner - from Falcon (a bird), iirc.
Bugsy - BUGsy
Whitney - Close to the colour white. Pretty farfetch'd relation, though.
Morty - Mortified? (2. Pathology To undergo mortification; become gangrenous or necrosed.) Mortuary?
Jasmine - JasMINE. Mineral?
Chuck - Chuck, as in, throw?
Pryce - Pr-ICE
Clair - Clair. Dragon's lair.

Some aren't that obvious (Whitney, Clair and Jasmine I had to check Bulbapedia for), but the relationship has always been there.

^^ Oh, well I meant Whitney, Jasmine, and Clair anyway. Especially Whitney. My point is, they haven't done anything that 'daring' in a while, right? The closest they got was Cilan and Cress.

I will only look at the Gen 5 names this time...

I think Lila should have stayed Iris. Sure, a "Lilie" is the German name for an Iris ( the flower), but I would have liked the japanese name here. At least Kamilla, Arty and Aloe kept their names somewhat. Bell did too.

As for the english names, well I don't like Bianca for Bell at all. But understand the change, of course.
Why was G-Cis changed into the strange Ghetsis again?

I would just rename all characters by their Japanese names. Other video game series do that, so why not Pokémon?

Hilda and Hilbert.
I'd change their names to anything, as long as it's different.

^^ Yeah. Their original names were Blake and Whitlea. Frankly, I would've been fine with those names.

The only case in which a name has irritated me is Charon, when Pluto definitely was the better and more logical fit. I mean, what even is Charon?

Also, the whole Charine/Janine mix-up in FrLg, I suppose.
