Who will you trust: a critic or a friend in terms of how good *insert media here* is?

If you don't get what I am saying, here is a simple scenario of what I am talking about:
You plan to *watch a movie, buy a video game, etc.*, but critics say it's bad, but your trusted friend says it's awesome. Who will you trust?

I trust a friend over a critic any day. My friends know what I like and am interested in, unlike the critics, who are just spouting what they think. For example, I like the Fast and the Furious movies even though they got like 1 star from the critics.

Friend.

Critics tend to have their heads up their asses sometimes, what with thinking their notion of what is "good" is undeniably correct.

Friend over critic. I tend not to really go by reviews when judging anything, but I do make decisions based on what my family or friends think.

Since "good" depends on the person, neither is perfect. I usually go with a friend's opinion because I know them better. I know what they like. If they like something, I'll know if I'll like it or not. (A lot of the time, it means I really won't like it. XD On the downside, I usually end up being forced to experience whatever it is anyway, because we're friends. Sigh.)

Critics are just opinionated people that... well, I don't bother with it, really. Even if I do read reviews on a movie beforehand, the general consensus of all of the critics doesn't usually agree with my opinion. It's better to go with someone I can relate to a bit better.

If a critic hates a movie, its worth watching.

Neither. I'd just go with my own instincts. As I always say for the most part, "Let me be the judge of it." I would take criticisms of a critic or friend into consideration, but I wouldn't let that deter me in the purchasing/watching of a movie/game, etc.

Now, for books, I'd probably go with a friend's take on it. Based on his/her description of said book, I would then decide on whether or not I'd want to read it.

My friends. We share a very common liking in games so if they tell me one is good I take their word for it and play it. If I would hate it is a rare thing and if said rare thing appears I would just ignore it.

I'd easily go with a friend. Since most of my friends have similar tastes to me in regards to movies, games, etc., odds are that they're opinion will mirror mine.

Critics often know jack shit about the stuff my friends and I tend to enjoy, so I don't listen to them at all. =P

Usually freinds, as there are overrated games a lot (FF7, Zelda OoT) which arent really good according to freinds in real life, and other times games get good player reviews and bad critic reviews (killzone).

I would trust a friend with the same sorts of tastes that I myself have for entertainment.

In terms of strictly film, I trust/value many critics' opinions... most of the time over a friend's... that doesn't mean I don't formulate my own opinions on whatever film I happen to be planning on seeing.

Something people fail to realize is that critics see 300+ films a year. They are inevitably going to see the cliches and flaws that someone who is just a regular movie-goer won't. Film-critics are very-much there for avid film fans, as well as the filmmakers themselves. When you make your living talking about movies, you probably know your shit... so long as we pretend Armond White isn't employed by anyone...

There are a lot of good critics out there... you just have to sift though the rest of the blogosphere to get to them...

When it comes to music, video games, etc. though, I typically just listen to/play what I like... I rarely ever take into account critics or friends opinions.

when it comes to games i say a friend or myself because i do not see how Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5 can get 3 out of 5 yet Halo 3 and Gears of War 2 get 5 out of 5 but when its a movie i would trust the critic because there problems with some films are actually real and most people can agree with them
