Anyone else sick of the contridictory looking gym leaders?
For example, we see steel as tough, powerful, or rough
Not as a shy little girl! (Jasmine)
And there are more

And, no, I'm not sexist, Her dialouge which contains many, dot dot dot's which are a clear evidence of shyness, it could have been a guy and it still would be out place.

Edit: I'm not asking them to make them all bland and stereotypical, It's just that it's getting old, thye need to think of a different Idea.

Somethimes they're funny. Like Jasmine, she was a funny one. But one I don't like is Tate and Liza. They're not really contradictionary(sp?), don't when yoou think of Psychic Gyms Leaders, you don't think of 12 year old twins. And since when is Tate a boy name? Well, now I should probably prepare for a bunch of people to tell me they're name is Tate.

What's wrong with them having personalities different from their chosen type? It's unpredictable. And makes them more interesting.

Yea, now with the generation of rebelous people it would be nice to see stereotyping again :)

And you're saying this isn't sexist? You elaborate about how she's shy, yet you also felt the need to emphasize that she's a girl--and further, that she's a little girl. What was the point of that diminuitive, if not to marginalize her back she's female?

I'm not sure how someone who's shy can't also be determined. Talk to that annoying "yo champ to be" fellow--he mentions how her tenderness hides her strength from those who're blind enough to make surface judgments.

There are so many of them though!! I now predict that I black and white there will be one

I think the contrast with Jasmine is a case of intentional irony.

Okay, maybe unpredictable is the wrong word. It's different. You expect an ice person to be cold and distant, and a fighting person to be tough and determined.

Instead we get bubbly Candice and self-conscious Maylene. And there's nothing wrong with giving them personalities that don't fit their types.

Besides, it's not like we have that many. A lot of gym leaders play their types straight.

If you're just talking about the Jasmine (game), then yes she is shy and this thread should go into the Pokemon Video Game forum.
But if you are talking about the people in general, this being the right place to do it, Jasmine is a strong-spirited young woman in the anime.
To stay on topic:
I don't necessarily think the gym leaders/E4 members are contradictory. Each member of said groups have their own background story, though some we just don't know about. True steel could mean "tough, powerful, or rough," but each person could have their own definitions about said types. A different person could think of steel as "well-rounded or 'keeps cool under pressure.'" It all depends on the person. Overall, I don't really see any contridictions...atm.

I think Jasmine's shyness was a change from the typical cliche we get now. I liked it, and she is soooo much better than Byron... "GWAHAHAHAHA!!" Kill. Me.

Aside from Jasmine and Byron, who did we get that's Steel? Just Mr. Do-Nothing-Appear-Once-In-The-Anime Steven.

Misty is really contradictory. In her opening speech, she says her battling style is "an all-out offensive with water Pokemon." Then, she starts battles by using X Defend.
