I sadly don't know much about music (why do the waiting lists for classes in my town have to be so long...), but I sometimes compose for fun anyway.
I made these two for my fanfiction a few years ago, to get into the right mood for the location and battle scene. The story is a sequel to Colosseum/XD, so you might hear some elements from these games in the music. Would be curious to know what people think the city and character are like based on the music.
This one was intended to be used in a fangame, hence the use of the Emerald soundfont. Due to unfortunate circumstances, I wasn't able to work on the game for much longer after that, so it never went anywhere, but it was supposed to take place in a location from another game but in the distant future, which you only realize at the end of the short story, so the music was also supposed to progressively get more similar to the location themes from the other game. This one should still be fairly subtle in what elements it borrows, but maybe you can figure it out.
And now recently I just had to try my hand at a remix of Corbeau's battle theme from ZA because it's just that good. I made this one into a video because the art and music kind of go together (when I came up with the AU, I first made the art, then the music) and so you can see the melody I transcribed in case you want to play around with it too.
