So unless pokebeach misread that show starts in Lumiose City. Thats kinda big cause this would mean ash not only starts in a big city and not the starting town, but also somewhere after the first gym. I mean wow. If they are doing this I wonder how he'll get there and how they will handle going backwards for the first routes. And if pb is wrong, hey who's it gonna hurt if we speculate on the plot!

The source of that information is the TV Tokyo website. My guess is that they aren't doing this for the sake of being bold, but rather just as a means to introduce the second gym leader (who could be a traveling companion) right off the bat. That isn't what they did for Misty or Iris, but it's still the simplest explanation.

Ash starting off from Lumiose will be interesting... The anime never follows the game's plot all that closely, but usually they stick to the general direction it takes through the region, doesn't it?

There's a theory going around that in the games once you hit Lumiose you'll pretty much get to chose your own path from all the different directions there are rather than being directed onto a certain path. If that's true, Ash starting from Lumiose could be to capitalize on that with him heading out and returning periodically.

Since Kalos is shaped similarly to a star, and Lumiose City is in its center, I supsect that Ash's course through the region will form a star shape on the outline of the region, starting in the direction Santalune City is.

If Pokebeach's rumors are correct though that would mean the fairy type leader. Which could work to be honest, as their role could work to introduce the type and do what Iris did for the tao trio, if xerneas is fairy of course.

That would be amazing and I kinda hope that's what they're going for.

I can see the headlines now...Pokemon still work of the devil, now wants you to travel in a pentagram!

That would make sense. I'd rather something like that than a Gym Leader joining up with Ash again, especially when it would mean that there isn't a set path for players to take in the games regarding which Gym to challenge.

Yeah I'm starting to think Lumiose City will be a hub town. Even though he starts there he'll still make the trip down to Santalune City/Vaniville Town, then after that he'll go somewhere else via Lumiose City.

But there is a set path as far as the beginning is concerned. The first gym is in Santalune City.

I'm not quite convinced he'll be starting there necessarily, it sounds more to me like they're just advertising that city since it's the most "memorable" location in XY so far and we'll probably spend awhile in the city, or come back to it overtime.

I bet he'll probably make his way there for, uh, Vaniville or whatever it's called.

First gym right off the bat(mostly?). Could this hint that Ash might use his Unova Pokemon in Kalos (like he used Kanto in Johto)?

No, Please no. I don't want his Unova team to be with him in Kalos. I want Ash to have six pokemon again without any rotation (Except in the Kalos league)

Well, they could always "balance" the focus. 2 old and 1 new in gym 1, same in gym 2,3 then progressively less number of old Pokemon. About 5-6 old Pokemon could get nice battles and maybe evolve a bit. His main team would always have Kalos Pokemon. Rotation is a very good idea if done well. But rotation should be done in a long saga like Sinnoh, not a short one like Unova.
