Wow, a serious tournament this early? Although, it doesn't look like Ash will be competing, unless that Charizard is his and he's given a Mega Ring and a Mega Stone. I'm actually kind of worried about this because it likely means that Mega Evolutions will be shoved down our throats for the next episodes.

...and that's a problem because? We have only seen Mega Blaziken (and Mega-Mega-Mega-Mega Meowth) and mega evolutions are a significant part of the XY games, I bet people would complain as well if the anime skipped mega-evolutions..

I'm worried about a tournament because I was hoping they'd keep Mega Evolution very rare, in keeping with the fact it is portrayed as relatively unknown so far in the anime and the select group of people in the games which can mega evolve being major characters - which should have meant every character in the anime who is able to mega evolve being fairly major characters - at least getting an episode about them, rather than potentially a generic opponent in battle that is never seen again, like the guy battling in that image seems like.

It would surprise me if the characters who should be able to mega evolve are introduced this early, especially in numbers that would make a 'tournament' possible. I'd much rather they keep it to things like the episode with Diantha - focus on one Pokemon's Mega Evolution, introduce the character and keep up some of the mystery about it.

I'd also hate a single Pokemon battle tournament - those were terrible in BW and they'd be just as bad here.

...and that's a problem because? We have only seen Mega Blaziken (and Mega-Mega-Mega-Mega Meowth) and mega evolutions are a significant part of the XY games, I bet people would complain as well if the anime skipped mega-evolutions..

The problem is that they'll most likely be showing around half of them already this early instead of saving them for later.

I am a bit disappointed that they're deciding to take this route with the Mega evolution. I was enjoying the mysterious angle they were taking with the whole concept. It was mentioned earlier that they seemed rare before, but now there's a whole tournament with them, it almost seems like a gateway to their overuse.

I would be only worried if the Lizardon is really Satoshi's, since it would start to steal the focus from Satoshi's recently captured Pokémon.

You know what, that will probably happen sooner or later, anyway, since the damn lizard is the only Pokémon capable of mega evolving Satoshi currently has :/

LOl, people are overreacting. Oh no, more mega evolutions in a saga revolving around mega evolutions? Impossible! Also funny how people say that there was a mystery aspect. What mystery? The only mystery is the origin of the mega evolutions which Sycamore researches. Obviously, if multiple people can mega evolve their Pokemon, then the means of evolving aren't a mystery?

And lol people are saying that they are shoving them in our faces. Lol what? We haven't had any real Mega Evolution focus so far and we probably won't until the Diantha ep. No point in keeping these a mystery.
And I sincerely doubt Charizard is coming back anytime soon. For crying out loud, Ash is missing three Pokemon in his Kalos team. He needs more Kalos Pokemon first. -.-

It's never too early to worry about a saga going to crap. You never know when or how it will happen...

Though it's not really the writers' fault. It's the producers and Gamefreak execs who deserve much of the blame for the Show's problems.

If Ash is ever going to use Mega Evolutions throughout his journey he's going to need a Pokemon that can Mega Evolve. I doubt he'll compete in this tournament, and it isn't a stretch to think once he gets to the third gym there's a possibility that he'll be back. I can see him getting a Lucario like in the games though.

EDIT: Ohhh yeah I forgot about Fletchling's evolutions being Fire and Flying, in that case I really doubt Charizard would ever travel with Ash again in Kalos. He can still come back for the third gym only though.

Yes, I forgot about Heracross having a Mega Evolution. I wouldn't mind it coming back to be Satoshi's Mega Evolution, anything is better than that overused lizard IMO.

Zenigame coming back, evolving and then mega evolving, would be the ideal scenario to me... But that is not happening and I guess this has nothing to do with the thread either.

As for the episode itself, I think it'd be cool if they debuted a new Mega Evo. Like, we could get an event Mega like M-Blaziken, and the episode could debut that Pokemon around the same time. But alas, I doubt that would happen. What I do think will happen is, Ash will save the day from Team Rocket, everyone is grateful, and the person with a Charizard gives him the opposite Mega Stone to the one he used for his Charizard.

And on Limone appearing, I don't know. He's Lumiose City's hero, maybe he just defends that city and has to stay there. (I'm assuming they're past Lumiose City now.) Plus it'd be weird to have two Mega Blaziken running around at the same time, assuming that background guy is its trainer.

Now that you mention it, a few things are different from the comic things and the actual show (such as some Pokemon appearing in the comic but not in the episode proper.) It'd be neat if Limone replaces the guy in the actual episode, though he'd have to be in Blaziken Mask gear so as to avoid suspicion.

I think Ash and his friends will just watch this particular tournament, to see the Mega Evolved Pokemon battle. Especially since Ash shows interest in Mega Evolved Pokemon so far. I wonder if Serena will watch this tournament while at the same time becoming interested in maybe getting involved in Mega Evolution tournaments in the future once she gains more experience and catches more Pokemon.

Ash and his friends likely won't participate unless Ash's old Pokemon return or the tournament includes both Mega Evolving and non-Mega Evolving Pokemon. Hopefully this tournament is one-on-one.
