XY or ORAS?

Hi! I've finally saved enough money to get a 3DS but I only have $300 which only leaves me with enough money to buy one 3DS Pokémon game. I started with FR back in Grade 1 and I've just recently got back into Pokemon from a hiatus after SS. I bought White and Black 2 last week, beat them both, White was better than Black 2 imo. Also started rewatching the ENTIRE anime from start to finish, just finished the Orange Islands. Anyways, I've scrapped together $300 for a new 3DS and I'm trying to decide between XY and ORAS. I've never played any Hoenn games, as I've only played FR from Gen III, I've played all of IV and V however. I wanted to get ORAS as it isn't a remake for me, it's my first full experience in Hoenn. However people were saying XY was really good and far superior to ORAS so I'm split down the middle between the two.

Any suggestions?

Going by your sig, I'd go for OR/AS. They have their issues but they really are fantastic love letters to Hoenn. Plus they feature all the latest mega evolutions and moves, so you wouldn't be missing anything in terms of content.

I'd seriously consider waiting a couple of months and see if a Pokemon Z (an enhanced version of X/Y) turns up. If not, then maybe pick up X/Y when you've finished the storyline of OR/AS.

Honestly, I'd suggest Y. X and Y will give you a better intro to the new mechanics genVI introduces, and they'll be cheaper than ORAS, especially if you buy them used. I've noticed at Gamestop, at least here in Florida, Y is cheaper (by like 2 or 3 bucks) than X, and even though I got X, i'm thinking I would have preferred Y (Yveltal seems soooo much better). However, Lufennian makes a good point, there's a chance that Z will come out in a bit, which will make buying X or Y now rather annoying.
There's always the chance of DLC, or an X2Y2, or Z, or DeltaZ, or some other such crazy thing, who knows. I think XY will give you a better intro, but having played both X and OR, I find OR to be more interesting, with Secret Bases, tho the clothes customization in X was fun. I could keep praising and bitching about both of them, so i'm gonna stop now.
I reccomend getting the ORAS Demo first, and then deciding based on what you feel is more likely, Z or DLC or X2Y2 or something else.
If you're more concerned with learning the game mechanics though, I felt the mega evo stuff was jumped into faster in ORAS since it had already been introduced in XY,
One last note, I can't decide which is stupider, Team Flare or Team Aqua/Magma

Buy ORAS. They're more up-to-date, they include all of the latest Mega Evolutions (and *all* of the Mega Stones from both XY and ORAS), and they actually have something of a post-game to speak of, unlike XY. And the story is far better, if you care about that. Plus, there are some really cool keep-you-busy features such as the DexNav, and Secret Bases.

Really, the only things that I think XY have over ORAS are Trainer customization (although even that's kind of limited) and Pokémon diversity. XY offer a wider selection of Pokémon than ORAS, but then, after you battle Groudon/Kyogre in ORAS, more diverse Pokémon start to show up throughout the region. Not as many as XY, but still.

I think I'm going to go with ORAS solely for the reason that I got a free official walkthrough/guidebook book thingy for ORAS today, might as well put it to use. Thanks for the help guys.

I personally liked ORAS more, but if you have already played RSE, XY is a better deal.

Ultimately, whichever of those games you buy now, make sure to buy the other in the future. Both are well worth your money.

All megas stones (Without having to be in a certain time) is fair.

ORAS just has more to do.
