I'm surprised, almost all the reviews are positive, with only a few nitpicks here and there, but that's natural for players to have a few nitpicks about a game. The first genuinely negative review will probably be Gamespot and GameInformer Magazine, who are known for their extremely biased reviews, and often bash on Nintendo games (ESPECIALLY Pokemon) for being "kiddish" while they praise shooter games or anything with an M rating (like Call of Duty) and give them high scores.

Essentially says "don't worry about the endgame, there is lots to do". Contradicts a few reviews saying there is little to do at the end of the game.

Edit: Adding in stuff from another post I made about this review, translated stuff:

"Can you complete the Pokedex without having to exchange with previous editions? I honestly do not know: many of the mysteries of the game can only be resolved on the basis of time, Lots of play and connection. The worried about the endgame can breathe easy, as I say, there is material for a long, long while."

"I will not advance more than necessary to respect the intention of Game Freak to preserve intact the mystery (one of the advantages of the global launch: the first time we can reach a new release without being able to know from beginning to end all that we expected), but from the beginning you see how the world of Kalos is larger than it looks: no need to go far to see innacesibles routes, areas that we need to reach using Surf or even whole areas identified in the map to the main adventure has gotten us."

A lot of people seemed to be getting tired with the formula, although I sure havent.

Found this:

Recensione di Pokémon X / Y (3DS) [Pagina 3] - 3DS Italia

via Google Translate said:
"This does not mean that X and Y are ugly Pokémon games, mind you, but it lacks that sense of discovery that characterized the previous games (even the less successful). The post-game, for example, at the time of writing, is completely absent. I could not find any secret dungeon or locality bonuses, and even the number of monsters called "legendary" is so small."

Seems like there is contradictions in reviews. The one I posted above said there is lots to do post-game and that are secrets that they're not allowed to talk about, then there is your one which says there is no post-game.

I'm certainly not going to complain about a small number of legendaries.

I would not be so sure about that: GameInformer's Review.

Sounds like it's a pretty great game. The post game content does worry me a bit, but as long as the main game is still amazing, I can forgive them for it. Smaller post games are usually pretty standard for the first games of a generation, so it doesn't surprise me that much. I'd only be worried if the next games after (which usually have more) end up being more barren than previous games like Platinum, HGSS, or BW2 (ideally they should be better than Platinum and HGSS, which IMO BW2 has not topped).

That's not necessarily a contradiction, he's not really denying that there's no post game content, he's just saying there's plenty of replay value. It could just be that there's a lot of sidequests accessible throughout the main game but not much is unlocked after the credits roll. Which is probably why the reviewers complaining about lack of post game content are making comparisons to RS, that's exactly what those games did (the game was chock full of stuff like Contests and Secret Bases that you could do at your leisure, but actual post game content was limited primarily to catching Rayquaza, Latios/Latias, and a couple of TV gimmicks like Swarms). So in that way, they both could be right.

I'm amazed that GameSpot gave Pokemon X and Y an 8/10. That seems pretty positive by their standards, given that they are fairly harsh these days. For the reception as a whole, I'm rather glad that these games are currently critically acclaimed. Let's hope things stay that way.

After reading tons of reviews, I think the commonality here would be how Masuda and Gamefreak would address the stereoscopic 3D and the lack of a valuable "post-game" for these two versions.

It seems like they should be back to the drawing board after the release of the games.

Some reviewers claim there's like no postgame at all, but others have said there's a substantial one. We have absolutely no idea who's right.

It's just opinions, all in all the general reviews of the games seem positive receiving an average score of 90%, which is very prestigious.

Have people specifically said that the post game is substantial, or are they just saying that there's substantial replay value? There's a difference there, if they're saying there's substantial replay value they're probably counting optional features that are accessible throughout the main game, in which case both sides are right.

I think that means that post-game could be limited to swarms/sightings of Pokémon that aren't in the Kalos' Dex. Given how huge Kalos seems to be, this could raise the number of catchable Pokémon to at least 600 when both cartridges are combined, but there seems to be already 450 in the regional sub-dexes alone so that doesn't seem as impressive as in previous gens. Plus, there seems to be no new post-game content when compared to gen 5, no unlockable new routes in particular.

Or maybe DLC will give a longer post-game.
