What do you think XY's tone is going to be? Do you think the writers are going to go for a more serious approach, or are they going to keep it light-hearted? Discuss.

Prediction for XY's tone: Either an AG tone, or a DP tone.

AG tone meaning a mix of goofiness and seriousness.
DP tone meaning taking things very seriously.

The anime's tone has always been light-hearted, even in DP. I don't really see that changing.

wwell given ash's reaction to getting off that plane in the trailer... i would say goofy

They had their chance to get deep and philosophical in BW, had they developed Team Plasma's original plan more (to separate people and Pokémon). Imagine how Ash would have dealt with the very core of his dream getting shaken to its core. Unfortunately, there's no way to know what TPTB are gonna pull this time.

Episode N was probably the best part of BW. It made the darker tone work without being overbearing for me.

What darker tone exactly. Because team rocket and pikachu pretty much killed any credibility plasma had in the first place.

I don't have a lot of confidence that they can do anything with this. Especially when everything in the games seems to be centering on the idea of unleashing the true power of pokemon. Even though it's through the Power of Friendship, do you honestly expect Ash to do that? Even if they do do it, they will probably not have an adequate explanation for it, and it won't cause any character development whatsoever. I might have thought differently earlier, but I was considering something Robo-Floatzel said in another thread. We can practically write out what the entire saga will be like with no effort because it's what we see in EVERY saga. Even the technical differences don't mean much since they still mirror stuff that the anime has done before in some way. Of note was that regardless of the matter that I have said that I know the anime has never been about how it ends, I still expected progression out of it. How far could that have gone, honestly? It's the same argument I've used for why BW is the way it was. This was easier because they wouldn't be able to hold him back forever regardless of ho much they could delay it. How much improvement can we expect when any progression will only be from BW, and that might as well be like either going to Johto or Hoenn, depending on how you look at it. Can I really go on? Do I really think they messed up beyond repair? I promised myself I would give it one chance and one chance only. It might have happened that it won't matter what it does, I will rag on it regardless. Thankfully, you won't have to worry about me should that happen.

LOL. Well, by that, darker than BW's usual tone. Team Rocket and Pikachu did pretty much kill Plasma's credibility, though, I'll give you that.

I personally enjoyed the Meloetta arc more than Episode N. Both good arcs though.

Meloetta arc was at least much better than the League arc of BWS2, IMO.

I really want it to venture through more mature themes since the refusal to do so in BW was its lowest point, but at the same time I wouldn't want it to be 100% ultra-serious either.
I enjoy a balance between seriousness and fun. Personally, I believe there are moments to be goofy and moments to be serious and I wish the writers learn which one is more appropriate for each moment.

Another point they made that I agree with is that I also don't think the anime will ever match what fanfic writers have achieved. This could be unfair because rule 1 of fanfic writing is to not be the anime. They made the point that even working within the constraints of the anime, they could do better. There is something to be admired about the matter that the writers seem to deliberately avoid the most obvious take on something, but the bad part is they do this even though such a thing makes the most sense. This is what hit me the most. Even the most inexperienced people can write better than the anime because they make better sense. (although there are still a few that can be just as bad or worse) I must admit, I feel defeated, although I am not sure why. I have long known that the anime is lacking, but that did not bother me before. Perhaps it was because there was still something interesting to it, although that might've been a delusion. Perhaps it is more a general problem I have with the entire franchise. I have come to see all the potential in the subject material, and that they are just unwilling to use it. For this reason, above all, I should possibly leave now, because I will just criticize it inside and out otherwise.

Eh, let it be serious when needed and light the rest of the time.

Remember: the producers have to be THE most timid people in the Anime Industry when it comes to being dramatic/serious. Pocket Monsters fears to go where other animes go without a moment's hesitation. Samu hit the nail on the head...twice!

If XY ends up being like DP...well, let's just say that DP is my least favorite saga, mainly due of its tone and animation.
I'd love to see something like AG or BW instead.
