Today in Religion Class, people were throwing papers and stuff at me, telling me stuff like "Give us our papers back! They say Pokémon on them!" I ignored them, and they offered to give me Pokémon games. Then they offered Yu-Gi-Oh! cards.

See, I told you guys, liking Pokémon makes you a loser. Then again, Canadains are like that. For proof, check out this forum post on my schools' MySpace forum: http://forum.myspace.com/index.cfm?...tryID=22107692&groupID=102351660&adTopicID=29

^Canadians aren't as nice as they're made out to be, now are they? That's how they ALL act.

And what did YGO have to do with anything? Do they assume Pokémon-lovers always like YGO too?

Anyone else get bashed for liking Pokémon?

not at all . . The Pokémon games have actually made a big comeback at my school and kids have started to play them again. People are kind of indifferent when I tell them I like Pokémon.

I knew it...Canada. That thread, as I said, is the perfect example of typical Canadian attitude.

And this is exactly why you shouldn't admit to liking Pokemon if you're in high school and know that *everyone* is going to be an ass about it. I had all the kids treating me like I'm retarded for six years because I was stupid enough to be proud of liking Pokemon in the 7th grade.

Gotta disagree with you there, Snake. I'd have to say I actually feel GOOD when other people are an ass about liking Pokemon. It reassures me that I'm NOT an asshole like the rest of them.

I completely feel you there, XD. I get TONS of grief for liking Pokemon at school (you should have heard some of the comments the day I cosplayed James two weeks ago). I have the Yu Gi Oh problems, too... for some reason, everyone thinks Pokemon, YGO, and Digimon are all the same thing. It gets really annoying, explaining the differences, after a while.

Do you go to a Catholic school too? That would make sense, since it seems conformity is a bigger deal at private schools... I've heard from my friends in the public schools people are far more tolerant of Pokemon and that kind of thing.

Although some people have given me their old cards as a result... sophomore year, I ended up scoring a really nice Japanese Giovanni Trainer card (holographic, no less!) Then the same kid proceeded to tear up an Ancient Mew in front of me. Not a big deal, given I've already got one. But it still hurt like hell... damn, that card's pretty. Also, some people are pretty tolerant and even think it's kinda cool.

EDIT: Thanks, Neku. Just saw your post. I'm a sophomore now, actually. And I do go to a Catholic school, although I'm pretty sure I'm not Catholic.

Snake Bandage/Demon of Light: Yeah, but I have a different attitude. I don't care what others think about me. If they want to hate me just because I like something that they don't like, then forget about them altogether.

I've never been outright bashed for liking Pokemon, but I do get some weird looks from some people that see me buying cards and stuff like that.

I remember one time last year, I went to a flea market and there was a guy selling cards, so I looked through them and picked out a couple. When I went to pay him, the guy asked me "You have a brother that collects them or something?", like it was completely insane for a teenage girl to be interested in such things. I just smiled, and said "Nope. I collect them myself. In fact, I have over 20 thousand of them." That shut him right up. Then again, that same guy'd been to a yard sale we'd had a couple years earlier and bought a rock from us for 5 bucks, so his intelligence kind of comes into question.

When I bought Orange Islands Volume 3 at Best Buy last year, the cashier gave me the weirdest look when she scanned it. Then "POKEMON DVD 14.99" came up on the monitor (which for some reason is facing out, so everyone can see it) in bright green letters, and a person behind me also gave me a bizzare look. Apparently, a teenager buying a Pokemon DVD is unheard of in Indiana.

Orange Islands DVD: $15
Indiana sales tax:92 cents
Knowing you've just freaked out a few people: priceless.

Oddly enough, the lady at Borders didn't find anything odd about me asking about them ordering Master Quest Set 2.

Maybe it's just me though a few years ago when I went to high school, no one really cared if you played Pokémon or not. I actually told a number of people that I imported Japanese Pokémon games, and more of them were impressed with how I could play through a game in another language rather than make insults towards me. I guess things are different everywhere else.

Well, playing them in a foreign language probably makes them seem less "kiddie"...

The same thing happened to me when I bought Emerald. Honestly, it just cracks me up. I always just give them this "you got a problem with what I'm buying?" look.

I know for a fact I'll get beaten up if I tell anyone, so I keep the fact that I like it to myself, and if ever people come to my house and see pokemon stuff on my bedroom floor I blame my sister. Its not what I want to do but I know for a fact that if I don't want my face rearanged then I need to keep it secret. I would tell my friends but as with many secrets you tell others it tends to slip its not that I don't trust them but sometimes things just happen and I don't want to risk that and plus they don't think its "cool". There are only 2 people my own age whom I can confide in my best friend whom also likes it and another friend who decided to get mystery dungeon(there are other people like my parents but A. they aren't my own age and B.they're not that interested). However outside of school when I'm not with my friends I have no objection in showing my interest and other than a few wierd glances no-one seems to care. This would still however not persuade me to tell my school friends because as they know me they'd still laugh and the senseless bullies would still have a go at me because they're bloody sadistic!

I don't really make a secret of it. It's not like my social standing can drop any further. The people who's opinions I care about either don't care or join in. The people who's opinions I don't care about sometimes give me grief at which point I either ignore them or deliberately start talking very loudly about berries, EVs, nicknames, contestshipping or porn (unrelated to pokemon, but good to get people to shut up) with the people who matter.

I would do that but the bullies at my school seem to prefer an all out physical approach to their "Occupation"

Best. Approach. Ever.

Anyway, I'm in Australia and at my school, quite a lot of people you wouldn't expect play pokemon. However, in a school of over 1000, 10-20 people who like pokemon isn't gonna stack up well. There's the sort of "if you're not an emo or skater trash your just trying to be different" mentality. Hell at school, I cop all that crap for liking Nintendo. But whenever someone starts on me about it, I just remind myself, that they're a Sony fan (conformity is a big thing at my school, too) and they can't help their stupidity.

I still have a black eye from the time someone insuled me for lking Nintendo and I got them back by tormenting them about Sony. But on the brightside he has 2.

I'm in college, so no, people don't tend to make fun of me for it.

Just goes to show how people can be real dicks.

I always get that weird "WTF are you thinking?" vibe from GameStop employees when I go to purchase the games or even the strategy guides. I actually had to tell them I was buying Colosseum's guide for a fictional 'cousin' to get rid of the discomfort. Not to mention I only know like four people who still play the games.

That's one reason I'm looking forward to DP---I can play as much as I want via Wifi, and completely shamelessly.

Likewise for me, I was reading Pokemon Special in our lobby, and my friend Kurt was like "You're reading a Pokemon book?" I replied "Yep." and that brought up discussion about liking Pokemon in the past.
