So I've had to restart my computer twice in about the last fifteen minutes because it's lost internet connection. And yet my router's lights are all on, including the one that says that my connection is fine.

First my messengers (MSN and Trillian) disconnect, then I can't get any pages to load.

The only thing I'm doing differently tonight is that I'm trying to run Soulseek. I even deleted and reloaded it, but now it's refusing to look for anything. Which it does on occasion, which is just *weird* given that it's basically a searching function.

So is that connected? Oh yeah, it would close up Soulseek too, saying that it closed in "an unusual way", but wouldn't tell me anything further than that.

EDIT--Hmm. Haven't had any crashes since I posted this, but Soulseek *still* refuses to find anything I ask it for.

I have the same problem with my internet connection disconneting. It usually occurs when I have a bittorent app running.

Hmm, hangups are uncommon but can happen even on a stable network. I think the simplest approach is to refresh the router or give the router a hard boot [unplug-replug].
Every fews weeks or so I'll lose connection with my router even though it says it's opperating just fine.

When I used my router on campus last year it cut out almost daily but when I moved off campus, the disruptions stopped. My theory was that interference from other frequencies [especially from being so close to our IT building] caused the sudden drop in signal so refreshing the signal of my router would correct that. I can't confirm this, but my router has had much less dropoff since moving to a 'quieter' area that isn't as polluted with frequencies and I really think it was disruption that causes problems like that.

Are you near other routers or cell towers? Resetting it should be enough to solve it, but depending on your location, you may have to reset it more often when you notice loss of signal again [even though the computer says you're connected to the router].
