Stan Lee is more well known then Takei...so I'm putting this here.

The Japanese publisher Shueisha has announced that Stan Lee, the co-creator of America's Spider-Man and X-Men from Marvel Comics, and Hiroyuki Takei, the creator of Shaman King, will create a new project together to launch the Jump SQ.II (Jump Square Second) spinoff manga magazine on April 18. The announcement of the as-yet-unnamed project was made in the April issue of Jump Square magazine, which was released on March 4 in Japan.

The Spider-Man and X-Men comics have been adapted into Japanese manga by Ryoichi Ikegami (Crying Freeman, Mai the Psychic Girl, Sanctuary) and several Shogakukan artists, respectively. C.B. Cebulski brought Kia Asamiya (Silent Möbius, Dark Angel), Takehiko Ito (Outlaw Star), Katsuya Terada (Zenbu, Blood: The Last vampire), and others to various Marvel Comics titles after he became an editor there. Del Rey is collaborating with Marvel to create an X-Men shōjo title with writers Raina Telgemeier and Dave Roman and Indonesia-based artist Anzu, as well as a Wolverine title with writer Anthony Johnston and an unnamed artist. (Marvel created a Mangaverse line of comics with mostly American and Canadian creators in 2001.) Viz Media publishes Shaman King in North America. Shueisha announced earlier this year that Takei will draw a new ending for Shaman King for its deluxe Kang Zeng Bang (Kanzen-Ban) edition.

So, a manga made by Stan Lee, the creator of many famous super heroes, and the author of Shaman King??? -.o

He's also creating a new universe of super-heroes for Virgin Comics. I...don't expect either project to be that enjoyable. The man's stuck in the 60s mentality. The characters he makes now aren't terrible, they're just...not as ground-breaking/classic/legendary.

The character designs for the manga look pretty lame.

No one can deny Stan Lees credulity as an author and comic book Dood, but i do understand what your saying.

I dont think the characters will be any near as powerful in their ability to connect with the minds of todays fans due, and not just in part, to something "the man2 said himself: His first generation of superheroes were extensions of himself, his pain, his experiences, a way for him to combat his own life problems. I just dont think hes going to have the same inspiration, no matter how creative the man is, and as a fan its not pleasing to say this, i just dont think he'll have the same edge.

And to me, the meeting of manga style and old school comic substance could cancel each other out. The very stylised extreme limits of manga mixing with the bolder more consumer friendly Stan comics? They will have to be cleverly blended to use the potential of each creator to its fullest, imo.
