Dogs: I'm wondering what your favorite songs (not just town or route music) from the franchise is. For me it's "Unwavering Emotions" because of the orchestra instruments in the song.

"Farther Away..." from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time and Darkness. I love how emotional it is and how it perfectly fits its context.

"Friendly Battle" from Colosseum - That was some damn epic guitar work.

Of course, the anime remix of "Hoenn Elite Four Battle" is fucking amazing. I mean, seriously, it's a mix of high-energy orchestral music, hard rock and flamenco!

Lavender Town 2.0. It gives off the perfect feeling of impending doom and destruction, and the way the primary track goes from being completely uniform to perfectly disjointed is an aural orgasm. Overall, absolutely terrifying song that does its job incredibly.

Favorite song of the franchise? But there's so many...Here are a few I personally like.

- Phenac City theme from Colo/XD
- Pyrite Town theme from Colo/XD
- N's Farewell from BW
- An Unwavering Heart from BW
- Route 209 theme from DPPt
- Route 120 theme from RSE
- Miror B theme from Colo/XD (Which I can play on tenor sax!)
- The opening themes from Ranger and PMD: R/BRT
- Treasure Town theme from PMD: EoT/D/S
- Goldenrod City theme from HGSS
- Vermillion City remix theme from HGSS
- Trainer Battle from RBY
- Gordor's theme from Ranger
- Most of the music in Ranger: Guardian Signs

...And I'm sure I forgot some.

EDIT: Did not see that it excluded Town/Route music, sorry.

No, I meant that it can be town route/music, it just doesn't limit to it.

I love, love, love Route 4 from Pokemon X/Y. It sounds so much like something I'd play in band that I can even tell you exactly what my part would be. xD

Victory Road from X/Y is also amazing.

And for battle themes I love the Rival theme from G/S/C and HG/SS, and also the Kanto battle themes from the same games. The Kanto Trainer Battle theme from G/S/C and HG/SS is awesome.

I know all the songs from the series by heart. It doesn't help that I manage a Pokemon Radio station. #humblebrag

My favorite song comes from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. The track is Defend Globe (Ending). I really think that track has a great melody and if you've played the game, it just suits the moment and or conclusion of the special episode.

Most the music I like is from Mystery Dungeon.
Sky Tower, Dreams and Hopes, Magma Cavern... I could keep going but it's really early in the morning. xD

I love the entire soundtrack to RSE/ORAS and (for nostalgic reasons) RBY. Oh, who am I kidding? I can't just pick one! One of my top favorite things in this series is the music! It's all so good and enjoyable. =) I think it would be easier for me to pick my most least favorite than my actual favorite.

I've never thought too long and hard on this topic before, so for now I'm assuming that the tracks I constantly have stuck in my head are the tracks I consider the "best". These are the ones, in no order at all, that pop into my head immediately.

- "Cipher Peon Battle" from Colosseum. I think Colosseum has one of the best sound tracks of any Pokemon game, but that's definitely influenced by the fact that I haven't played every Pokemon game and I loved this one when I was a kid, so I have a very strong nostalgic attachment to it. For good reason, if you ask me! The MIDI format of this GameCube spin-off's music makes it sound unique among Pokemon games, even though MIDI is the butt of a lot of jokes these days. Honorable mention goes to "Friendly Battle". Really, the two are interchangeable in my head because they're both so slick and smooth and cool. Those are words I'd use to describe these tracks.

- "Route 38/39" from Silver and Gold. A lot of Pokemon music blends together in my head, I'm not so much detail-minded and so I don't bother learning the names of a lot of these tracks. I'm saying I had to look this one up in order to learn its name. That doesn't mean it's any less memorable! Much to the contrary, in fact, which is why I'm mentioning here. Again, I'm not sure if this is my "favorite" of the route themes, strictly speaking, but it's the one I remember the most eagerly, so maybe it is. It's just so bouncy and poppy and up-beat. The snare drum is also very Sousa-esque, like something you'd hear at a high school football game.

- "Bicycle" from X and Y. This came to mind right after "Route 38/39" because it captures the same mood in my mind. It's bouncy and light-hearted and childish. The thing I loved about Pokemon when I was a kid was that it made something as simple as riding your bike a special occasion that deserved its own music. To this day, I'm easily bored by sword-and-sorcery stuff like The Elder Scrolls or Final Fantasy or whatever that series is doing these days. I was so much more attracted to Pokemon when I was a kid because, well, it's childish, and the fact that there's special music for riding your bike is a perfect example of that. Honorary mention goes to the bicycle theme from Gold and Silver because I grew up on those games and that was the bicycle theme I hummed to myself constantly when I was little. Have I mentioned that Generation II is my favorite? It is.

- The Pokemon Center theme. Duh! Perhaps the memorability of this song is more a result of the context in which it's used rather than the merits of the music itself, but who cares? This song has repeated incessantly in my head almost as long as I've been alive. The Pokemon Centers become a home away from home when I play Pokemon, they give me a sense of security and dependability and safety that I sorely sought after when I was a kid. No matter how many pieces of music came and went during my Pokemon adventures, there was always this one, which led to it becoming symbolic of something homely and comforting.

I'm tired and I've caught myself just listening to music more than I've been typing this comment, so I'm done here.

Lugia's Song, with Eterna Forest being number 2. And then the song when you disappear to the future in Explorers. I think it's called "Don't Ever Forget"? The Happy Birthday version of the PokéCenter theme and Tears of Life round out my top five.

The route music west of Ecruteak city gets me going. It even still sounds nice from the GSC version.

I'm quite fond of Kiseki, the end credit song from X and Y. It's sappy as hell, but it really resonates with me.
