The show is now twenty. I think it's a good occasion to talk about characters you like the most. I'm simply curious what you think. So, I suggest creating you TOP10 ( or, if you prefer, TOP6 orTOP3)table and write shortly why do you like these characters. For example my list:
1. Brock-
2. Misty
3. Dawn
4.Max
5.May
6. Serena/Tracey/James
9. Iris
10. Miette/Sophocles
Brock-for me, he is the best- the funniest character, with whom I've grown up- I love his relations with Joys and Jennys. I think he's plot was pretty good too- I mean it was more elastic than Misty's and becoming a doctor is really great destiny for him.
Misty- the way I think about her is totally sentimental. As i said, I find her plot weak but episodes with her bring back my childhood- teasing Ash, making funny of him, pulling Brock's ears- actually I prefer her ,,first" personality, before season 5 and AG. And i love her relations with my favourite pokemon ever- Psyduck :D
Dawn- best written character in the PokemonAnime history. She was smart, brave, girlish and hadfantastic pokemon with my beloved Piplup and Pachirisu :D
I think here would be OS'Gary- but later his personality was destroyed so I'm not sure what to do with him :/
Max and May- Two characters, along with Brock, who make AG so nice series- they were good pals, persons you can always count on and, what is important to me, had a lot of funny scenes ( shoppings, May's love for food, Max pulling Brock's ear and teasing him) and, of course, May's great development ( probably, she have developed mostly)
Serena- her story is similar to May but not so funny- the character for whom I've watched XY.
Tracey- I like him because of sentimental causes and i think in Chronicles he did great job- solid character who has probably developed as Oak's assistant.
James- I've always liked him the most of TRio- I like his bond with pokemon ( especially Victreebell and Cacnea). I didn't like that before XY he didn't take Mimey with him :/
Iris- actually, I liked her because of her confidence and talent- her arguments with Ash were often very funny :D
Sophocles- I know a lot of fans don't like him but i do- he seems to be the most intelligent and reasonably thoughtful character in SM.
And Miette- I really, really liked the scenes when she was messing up with Serena- thanks to her the episode ,,Party Dancecapades" is my favourite in XY.
So, what do you think? I'm really curious about your opinions and favourite human characters :D

The human characters are actually my favorite part of the anime. I love seeing their different personalities and how they mesh together. The beginning of a new saga is always my favorite because I just love getting to see and learn about all of the new characters.

For my absolute favorite character, it's really close between Ash and Misty. I have a hard time picking just one because I like them for different reasons. I've always loved Ash's determination, kindness, optimism, and strength. I also love that he's a bit dense and can get pretty sassy at times (although I feel like that's really been forgotten over the years, which is very disappointing. It was really one of the biggest highlights of his character for me.) I also really like the bond he has with all of his Pokémon.

Misty I love because she was always shown as a relatively complex character. I loved that she's shown as a tomboy who still has an affinity for "feminine" things like romance and fashion. I've always been kind of the opposite (a very girly girl who has a lot of non traditionally feminine interests) so, especially as a kid, I really liked seeing a character like her. As I got older, I actually appreciated that even more. I've also just always been really drawn to her personality. I love that she's loud and a bit bossy and quite sassy herself. Misty has a lot of great one liners that probably make me laugh more now than they did as a kid.

May is up there for me as well. It could be because she's the character who I most relate to personality wise. I always found May to be very relatable. She's funny and is generally pretty goofy, and is shown to have quite a few flaws, which she pretty much embraces. I love that May is never really shown to take herself too seriously outside of contests. She likes to joke around and for the most part is pretty lighthearted.

Right now, and I was not expecting this at all, Kiawe is really capturing my attention. I absolutely love his passion for the Alolan culture, and that sometimes that passion just overtakes him. I was expecting him to be this super serious, no nonsense kind of character (similar to say Paul) but he's really got a very unique personality that has stood out to me. And his love for his little sister? Absolutely adorable.

May-Hands down favorite character ever. I love her funny personality and how she can go from being really sweet one second to a raging fireball the next. Her closeness with Max is really sweet as well. I also love the fact that she's somewhat of a foodie.

Serena-I adore her passion for what she loves. She's incredibly nice, but can toughen up when it's necessary. And I love how much of a fashionista she is.

Bonnie- I pretty much explained my adoration for Bonnie in the best written pokegirl thread, so I'll just copy that here for simplicity's sake.

I have to say Bonnie. Since the beginning, she managed to capture my heart faster than any other character and it's purely based on how they wrote her as a character. She was a child who acted like a child, yet still have enough mature traits to feel like she was almost at a level equal to that of a trainer. The way she adores all Pokemon, even to the point of calling giant brutes like Garchomp and Tyrunt cute, is just adorable. Plus the way she interacts with Pokemon and just wants to take care of them and make them comfortable is precious and totally understandable. She's not just like, "I want to hurry up and become a trainer so I can battle/become a coordinator/performer, etc" or whatever. But rather, "I want to become a trainer so I can care for these creatures". That's what I like the most about her. Bonnie is a character who actually feels real. Like a real world child being put into the Pokemon world and probably would want nothing other than to chill around with their Pokebuddies all day and make sure they're happy. That is why Bonnie will always be one of my favorite characters of the entire series.

Clemont- My favorite male character. He actually had an interesting set of goals in that he wanted to gain confidence and to create inventions to help Pokemon, both of which he's been successful in. He's easily the best developed male companion in my books. He's also incredibly hilarious with his pitiful running speed and other gags.

Max-I know that lot's of people can't stand him, but I enjoyed Max. He wasn't nearly as good as Bonnie in terms of a child character on the main cast, but he was still a pretty damn enjoyable character. He had his cute moments where he showed his more childish and vulnerable side, and that was always endearing to watch. I also love how he truly cares about May. They bickered a lot, but you can tell that he really loves his big sister.

Can't judge the Alolan bunch yet since we're only 30 episodes in, but I have to say that Lana, Sophocles, and Lillie are the characters that I'm most interested in. The first 2 are just hilarious and adorable (as are their Pokemon) while Lillie is adorable and has an interesting plot revolving around her fear of Pokemon.

I really enjoy the fact You two mentioned May. I've always had an impression she is underrated character (just like whole AG ). She is definetely different from other pokegirls- she doesn't have a crush on Ash like Misty or Serena, isn't so focused on contests like Dawn, isn't a tomboy like Iris and is not as serious as Serena. She was just...herself :D
I've always seen her as simply good pal for Brock and Ash and good older sister for Max. And, as you said...she definetely was goofy and I love this kind of characters :D
I was always curious what she did after her last appearence in DP- I know she went back to Johto but Is she still there or returned home? It's a pity we won't get to know it ( maybe in the future :D )

I do not know if I'll justify my choices, but my Top 10 is:

  1. May
  2. James (Hilarious - goofy?)
  3. Brock
  4. Clement
  5. Meowth ?
  6. Dawn (abandon piplup, please?)
  7. Gary
  8. Serena
  9. Bonnie (without Squishy, please)
  10. Ethan (only appeared for a few seconds in the 13th Movie, but i like him very much, lol)

  1. Dawn
  2. Serena
  3. Bewear
  4. Bonnie
  5. Sinnoh Ash

Dawn is probably one of the best rounded characters that has been in the anime. She had excellent development and good temperament. Serena is #2 because I just fell in love with her over the course of the anime, she could have probably had more development but ultimately she was getting to a great place towards the end of the anime. I think the rushed closure of Gen Vl adversely affected the development of her character.

Bewear & Bonnie, probably the funniest characters in recent memory.

Ash when he was traveling in Sinnoh, I thin his character was at his prime. He was still Ash but he was given a level of maturity that allowed his character to be strengthened. Ash in XY was similar in many ways, but ultimately I chose his Gen IV incarnation because the series lasted long and showed more development as such.
