Here, we like to talk about what would happen if we were gym leaders. The types we'd use, the Pokemon we'd use, the regions and cities we'd be in and the badges we'd hand out. But there's one thing that hasn't been talked about, and that's the secondary function of these gyms. If your not sure what that means, let me give you some examples:

  • The Striaton Gym is a restaurant
  • The Nacrene Gym is a museum/library
  • The Castelia Gym is a gallery with Burgh's paintings
  • The Mistralton Gym is where Skyla keeps her planes
  • The Aspertia Gym is a trainers school
  • The Virbank Gym is where Roxie and her band hold concerts
  • And the Lumiose Gym doubles as the Prism Tower

So: If you were a gym leader, would your gym have a secondary function and if so, what would it be?

Edit:

Here, we like to talk about what would happen if we were gym leaders.

When I said that, I meant "here on Bulbagarden" not "here on this thread". I'm not complaining, and you don't have to change the posts you've already made, I just wanted to make that clear.

Type: Multiple, like Blue. (But I'd only have Dragon, Psychic, Ghost, Fairy and Dark. The "magical" types.)

Outer Layout: Mystical Temple.

Badge: Ritual Badge.

Pokémon: Mismagius, Malamar, Gardevoir, Hydreigon. (with Mega Gengar and Honchkrow in rematches)

Region: Sinnoh

City: Seaspray City (settled on Route 224, to protect the Seabreak Path entrance)

Secondary Function: A companion library to the Canalave Library, specializing in Legendary Pokémon literature.

Gym Leader: Wynne. "The Magical Master!"

This was fun!

Edit: Thanks to Super Secret Bases, now this will be possible! (For the most part... lol)

When I was young, I always hang out with my friends in the arcade place. So to celebrate my childhood-teenage years, my gym's secondary function would be a huge and frenzy arcade wonderland. It will have the biggest collection of all arcade games from the classics and vintage to the modern shooters. The gym is decorated with bright neon lights and lots of video gaming inspired interiors. Oddly, it would be a Ghost-type gym.

In some other thread I remember posting how I would want to be a Fairy-type Gym Leader and have the gym be based around fairy tales. With that I can totally see my gym being designed as a performance theater or something like that. That way performers from all around the world can come to my Gym and put on concerts, musicals, plays, etc. And then maybe as part of the gym challenge the challenger would have to participate in a performance that would incorporate battles against the Gym Trainers/Gym Leader into the story line.

Of course the design of a gym doesn't have to relate to the type specialty of the gym in any way, but I really wanna be a super star, soooo... :p And speaking of super star, obviously the gym could be used for "classical" performances or "contemporary" performances, 'cause I would love to be a pop star in the Pokémon games. As long as I am able to convert my gym to something like Elesa's gym from B2/W2 then I'd be good.

I don't have a gym leader roleplay (not really, at least), but I always thought it would be cool for a gym to be like the Trick House. It has a random puzzle-maze-complicated part from a selection of them (based on day of the week? something) as the lead-up to the actual gym leader.

All right, I'll bite.

Location: Slateport City, Hoenn

Gym Type: Steel or Dark if required. None if not, rather it has a theme; recharge.

External Appearance: Factory/Manufacturing plant and warehouse

Badge: Anvil Badge

Secondary Function: Constructs ships, planes, cars, etc... Also stores the finished products until they are ready to be shipped to other regions if applicable.

Leader: Quintesson, "The Forge Master"
Appearance: Unknown, physically massive from his profession of choice, he wears a deep black cloak with red accents across it to protect himself from burns. Utilizes a welding mask with a T-slit visor to see out of while protecting his eyes from the blinding lights of blowtorches and the massive forge where he works.
Pokemon:
Steel: Metagross, Aegislash, Magnezone, Empoleon (Mega upon receiving one), Skarmory, Steelix
Dark: Hydreigon, Malamar, Houndoom (Mega), Craudaunt, Spiritomb, Scrafty
Recharge: Sceptile, Blastoise, Typhlosion, Braviary, Garchomp, Snorlax

My gym would be a Psychic type gym, it would double as an indoor archery range.

In the back however, once you walk through the range, there is a room with staricases each leading so platforms moving around, and moving archery targets, lets say 3. You have to work your way around to 3 platforms, battling my gym trainers as you go and fire an arrow to hit the gold in the target which would be a switch. Once all 3 switches have been hit, the door unlocks Zelda style, for you to walk through and fight the final boss, me the gym leader.

It would be a single battle, with 3 Pokemon each no switching by anyone.
I'd give out the Psy Badge. Not sure what it would look like yet. My gym would probably be in a town near Lake Valor in Sinnoh.

I'd like to have a Fighting-type Gym. The secondary function would be as a Pokémon Rescue & Rehabilitation Ranch (wow, lots of R's) taking in abandoned &/or abused Pokémon to give them a home. It'd also work very close with the local Pokémon Center to aid in recoveries.

My gym would double as a café and bar. In the morning, come in and enjoy a nice cup of joe or relax with some earl grey. At night, sit down and wash away your troubles with booze and spirits.

Mine would be an all fire gym that would double as a Pokemon rescue in the front with its own little adoption center.

My Pokemon would be: Delphox, Talonflame, Ninetails and [Mega] Houndoom. I'd add Rapidash and Arcanine in the rematches.
I would be a Double Battling gym.

Region: Sinnoh or a new region

City: Valor City (as though the little cottages by Lake Valor eventually expanded into a town.)

Gym Type: Flying or various.

GL Name: Jacob, The Soaring Scribe

Badge: Quill Badge

Pokemon (if Flying-type only): Togekiss, Gliscor, Staraptor (with Yanmega, Mantine, and Skarmory added in rematches)

Pokemon (if not a specific type): Claydol, Arcanine, Lanturn, Staraptor (with Ferrothorn and Dragalge added in rematches)

The gym is a poetry slam, and each slammer accuses the player of dissent, thereby leading to a Pokemon battle. Finally, Jacob appears on stage, impressed with the player's "poetic" battle style, and challenges him/her.

Mine would be a mixture of Normal and Poison (both pure and mixed of both) gym that was actually the region's Safari Zone. Instead of trainers to fight, there would be Overworld pokemon that attacked in double and triple battles. My pokemon would be Nidoking, Lopunny, Snorlax, and Ariados, with Mega Venusaur and Lickylicky as rematch pokemon.

Badge: Archive Badge

Kanto Join Avenue Gym, doubling as the Middlefield Corporation Office Tower.

Backstory: The Middlefield Corporation is one of the biggest companies in Kanto, Poke-Japan, and also by world standards. It has branch offices all over the Pokémon world, including localised subsidiaries in Pokemerica (HQ: Castelia City) and Poke-France (HQ: Lumiose City, and also owns the Pokeball Factory at Laverre). It initially started out as a exchange bank in 17th Century Safferon Town, but after the Industrial Revolution in the late 1800s, become prominent in establishing other disciplines. Today, it sponsors both professional trainers and in-office workers, and the gym is also run by the corporation.

Due to the increase in population of Kanto Metropolis, land has been developed around Route 7 (the only Pokémon sanctuary within Safferon/Celadon Cities). The success of Join Avenue near Nimbasa City prompted a second Join Avenue between Safferon and Celadon Cities, south of what we know as Route 7.

Type: To reflect the multidisciplinary nature of the gym, different types are used in different divisions:
Heavy Industries: Steel, Fire, Electric
Freight Transport: Water (ship), Flying (airplane), Ice (refrigeration)
Biotech: Poison, Grass
Electronics/Computers: Electric, Psychic (think Metagross etc)
Petroleum: Rock, Fire
Sustainable Energy: Flying (wind energy), Grass (ethanol etc), Water (tidal energy etc)
Mining: Ground
Consulting: Psychic (due to the relatively high psychological nature of consultation)
Banking: Psychic (because human psyche plays a bit of a role in investment), Fighting (financial law and justice), Dark (financial corruption)
Executive: All of the above

In the games, this is meant to be a post-8 gym gym. Ultimate Badge is handed out, which allows you to participate in any registered Battle Facilities. It also allows you to take part in the Pokémon League in any outside region without having to collect that region's 8 badges.

In the anime, Ash Ketchum comes back to Pallet Town after either coming in Top 2, or outright winning the Kalos/Gen 7 region league. (Gen 7 ideally should have the remake/sequel for RBY/FRLG.) He is invited to take part in the grand opening of the Battle Skyscraper of the Middlefield Corporation HQ. In the course of 12 episodes, Ash battles the different division directors. Having matured, and just having underwent his 12th/13th birthday, Ash took each directors with confidence, although not without some challenges on the way. Finally, Ash faces Regina to a full 6 vs 6 battle - this episode should ideally be a 1hr special, or take 2-3 episodes. Although Regina was literally a stone wall for the challenger, Ash's determination, his strategy, and his teamwork eventually prevailed. Now, a new history awaits for Ash as he accepts the invite to challenge Lorelei of the Elite 4, this time, for real...

Gym Leader: Regina (Because she pwned all the other Gyms and is the queen of all/most Pokémon types. That's right she pwned even Blue Oak.)
Gym Leader's Pokemon: Kingdra, Blaziken, Ferrothorn, Gardevoir, Garvantula, and Honchkrow.

Maybe a Football Stadium, gym trainers can be the players aha. I would either be the captain or the manager.

Mine would be a race track (not a stupid American Oval, a proper one like Silverstone or Monza).

If type specific, mine would be Dark-type with shady backrooms and fetish chambers.
Each Pokémon, in addition to being dark type, would have suggestive moves like lick, swallow, spit up, pound and beat up :p

Mine would be a rehabilitation center for Pokemon too domesticated to release into the wild, but too dangerous to be allowed around people. The trainer will have to pass through glass rooms where they could see the Pokemon, but the Pokemon couldn't see them. In order to unlock the door to the next room you would have to input the correct Pokemons room number. You are given it's bestowed name (what the trainer called it), the previous trainers name and why that Pokemon was put there. You aren't told what type of Pokemon it is, you'd instead have to read the Pokemons body language as well as other hints to figure out the correct answer.

If by the end you choose to battle the gym leader you will be denied, shown the door and banned from returning to the facility. If you instead show signs of regret and reluctance you are given the badge without conflict as a reminder of what you've seen.

An unorthodox gym, but it's all about the message. The gym would be type less and the badge awarded will be a simple circle within a circle.

I guess mine would be a grass gym with Venusaur, Ludicolo, Rotom Grass, Cradily, Abomasnow and Ferrothorn/Cacturne.

I would probably use a forest or jungle as the gym.

Cool thread.

I would imagine an airfield for the Flying type, with some heavily flying-themed Pokemon.

Pokemon: Latios (jet), Talonflame (diving/falcon), Dragonite (high speed flight), Crobat, Togekiss, and Gliscor.
