Today I went to the Platinum prerelease and it was about the size I remember them being (this was my first tournament since Holon Phantoms). But they said we had 107 people and that was some sort of record for the nation.

But thing is that Portland isn't THAT big of a city. We have less than a million people, which is pretty puny as major metropolitan areas go. What about Seattle? What about LA or Chicago or New York?

Seriously, is Portland's Pokémon interest really THAT much bigger than the national average? And if so, why are we still crammed into tiny one-room stores for our events?

Mm... yeah, for a prerelease 107 people is a lot. And no, Portland's PTCG playing community isn't much bigger than the national average, to my knowledge. However, depending on the number of events in the area, many people may have flocked to that one for lack of options.

Now... 107 is around the low average for a States tournament, if I'm not going crazy. Some States have considerably more than that, some considerably less. From there, the attendance goes waaaay up. Regionals and Nationals draw hundreds of people.

Oh, and the Rockford cities I attended a few weeks ago had an attendance of over 107... that was huge too. In essence, yeah, 107 is a lot of people for a prerelease or a pay-to-play Pokémon event of any kind. And yeah, some events are packed into small spaces. Looks like you got one of those. Bear with us, though! They're not all like that!

Hmm. You seem to think that I'm new to the game. I'm really not; I just was out for a while.

But Portland's Pokémon interest hasn't followed what other people say are national/world trends either. It's usually consistantly popular here, without the huge dips between gens or the stigma of being an older fan (I didn't even know either of those EXISTED until people started complaining about them online).
