Have you ever played a Pokemon game with just one Pokemon that is leveled up (and a bunch of other hm slaves)? If so, which Pokemon was it and which game? Also on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the hardest how would you rate the difficulty?

I did it twice, once in Pokemon Blue version with just a Blastoise (got it up to lvl 100) and the other Pokemon Silver with a Feraligator (again lvl 100). I usually pick water types.

Pokemon Blue I remember being a lot more difficult since I had to face Lt. Surge and Erika on top of having to beat the Elite Four and the rival which were all pretty high leveled so I'd say it was a 4 but I managed to do it.

Pokemon Silver Feraligator was crazy overpowered and it just destroyed all the gyms in Johto without much problems. I got it to about Level 60-70 before the Elite Four and I managed to get through it with some potions and ethers. By the time I got to Kanto I was way overlevelled and easily beat all the gym leaders. Overall 2/5.

Tried it on my second playthrough with nothing but a decently-powered Sylveon from my first run (Banked over at level 12). Got to gym six and lost interest. Solo runs, Nuzlocks, gimmick plays in general just don't interest me.

When I was beginner and inexperienced, my first playthrough of Leafgreen was practically a solo with a Charizard. It didn't last, of course. The Elite Four walled me and I raised a Dragonite to help the Charizard.

I'd say 3 on difficulty. It really depends, though. A Pokemon with a deep and powerful movepool, good stats, and good typing would make it much easier, and vice versa. The only weakness any solo team would have in common is the "1 Pokemon faints = instant game over."

Right now I've been sort of stopping and starting on a solo run with Venusaur on Pokémon Blue. I have to go back and catch more Pokémon to use as HM slaves and to get the aides to give me the items.

It hasn't been very difficult yet but I have a feeling Pokémon Tower is going to be very tedious.

My Torterra nearly solo'ed Platinum, since it was the only reliable team member for a while. It wasn't until Snowpoint that the other Pokémon had caught up.

I used to do solo runs during my early days, but the only one I completed was a solo run with Blaziken in Emerald. It was hardest when I got to the Mosdeep Gym battle, as my Blaziken was around level 60, when the rest of my team was around level 20. When I beat Wallace, my Blaziken was level 91 or so.

I've never had only one Pokemon in a walk through before. But, I barely have any Pokemon in my team. When I got to the Elite-4 in AS, I only had my Blaziken, Kyogre, and Magnezone.

Any time I have a Golurk in party. No lie: the big lug ends up ten to fifteen levels ahead of anyone else in my party and does all the heavy lifting. I feel a little guilty for not training the rest of my team for a bit.... then I get over it.

hello, I am currently doing a Solo run of Pokemon Blue using only an Abra. I'm currently on the 4th gym. Some parts of the run were incredibly hard. Brock was really tough, and so were Hiker's in general. I hope you guys enjoy. I will be doing more solo runs in the future.

Simple question: are solo runs even possible? Not counting with Mewtwo in Gen 1 of course... :-/

They're possible, but they can be hard. It all depends on the pokémon.

From personal experience, I can say that doing a solo-run in RSE is quite easy if you pick Mudkip. Since there aren't any major grass-type trainers, there are little things to worry about when it comes to type advantage, and Swampert does have an advantage over multiple gyms. It also can learn the major HM moves, making the need for another pokémon unnecessary. To be honest, it was quite easy when I did this run.

I've done a solo run with HM slaves and one starter a few times. Gen 1 with Blastoise (level 88 by the time I first challenged the E4), Gen 2 with Typhlosion (level 70-something when I beat Lance), Gen 3 with Blaziken (also level 70-something by the time I got to the E4). I'd have one pokemon for Fly and one extra pokemon for Surf.

My first time playing Pokemon Red was an unintentional solo run. I only used Charizard and managed to beat the game and get him to level 100. The last time I did a solo run was in Gold. I went through the whole game with Feraligatr. To be honest, it wasn't that difficult, but my method was to always have my Pokemon 10 levels higher than the gym leader's (20 if it was the Elite Four).

Still, I didn't do that to challenge myself. I did that because I was inexperienced and didn't know what I was doing. My mindset, at the time as an eleven-year-old, was "OMG CHAR1ZARD IS S0 C00L!!1! I WUNT N0THING 3LS3 BUT CHAR1ZARD!!!!11!!" If I ever do another solo run, I'd probably use Charizard again. Or Electabuzz, just to experience something new and have something a bit more challenging using one of my favorites. =)

Regarding クリスタル's question, I remember not using HM slaves with Feraligatr, but that's because he could learn all the necessary HMs to make it through the game. I absolutely needed a Surf HM slave for Red and if you are not using a Water- or Grass-type with the ability to learn such useful HMs, then yeah, HM slaves are needed. In my opinion, I don't think using an HM slave would ruin the point of a solo run. If you can't make it through the game with that one Pokemon you're using because it can't learn the HMs needed to get through the game, then what's the point? I just wouldn't use HM slaves in battles or stuff like that.

Around 1998, my Blue version had a level 80+ Wigglytuff (I was too young and inexperienced to know about training), though I still couldn't beat the Elite Four...then my dopey friend saved a new game over it.

I once played through Crystal with Arcanine, since you can catch Growlithe early in that game. The rest of my team were only for using field moves.
