At the very beginning of the game, what Pokemon do you catch? Do you use them for the rest of the game? I usually catch (in heartgold) a pidgey, wooper, and bellsprout and i always choose cyndaquil as my starter. I think its good to catch Pokemon at the beginning. Also, I think its a good variety of types. Flying, water, grass, and fire.

I always catch the beginning bird and rodent at the start of each game I play. I dump them in the PC later on (with the exception of Starly in the Gen IV games).

I always catch a pokemon that can learn surf and fly, I usually keep them, too. But then again, I try to catch all of them so I can have them in my pokedex.:p

i used to alwase use my starter, then in dimond i think i traded an onix for a lvl 6 shiney mew (h4xed) (i have a gullable friend, who had an action relplay)

i went through the entire game with that as my "starter" and beat the game, but then in SS i used my normal starter most of the game, until i got to the ice gym, where i used my kirlea that knew miracle leaf, as he was weak to it, gardivior then lead my party through the 31337 4.

You mean "start" with Mudkip, right? And in other games? You can't catch Mudkip (or any of the starters) in the main series games.

cyndaquil for my starter, then i catch a bunch of useless pokemon and trade them for eggs i have bred with egg moves, that way you have an umbreon by the time you hit goldenrod or earlier

I trade some 5-6 Pokemon I want to use, except for my first go, then I just catch some random Pokemon.

I usually catch one of the early bird Pokemon (I say "one of" because of Spearow and Pidgey in Gen 1/FRLG). Then I just fill in my team with whatever I catch, except for the early normal types. I hate them. And usually no early bugs, except Beedrill, because he owns.

I sometimes plan out my team. Maybe catch one or two of the begining Pokemon as HM slaves, then find out what is coller later on and get them.

I catch basically all the Pokemon in the first couple areas and toss them in my box when something I really want comes along.

I usually plan out my teams then catch any early Pokemon that I find useful (like Butterfree, Starly, Shroomish, etc) and use them until I can find the desired Pokemon for my final team.

The first water, fire, and grass/electric pokemon that appears, the legondary that appears, and 2 HM slaves. Except for in SS. In SS, I had an extra spot in my party since I only needed 1 HM slave, so I used the Dratini the elder gives you.

Okaaay....explanation...I use the same team over and over, and they're usually easy to obtain, or the earliest maybe.

In Platinum, my starter will always be Chimchar, always. I'd then catch Starly, and after that a Luxio. That's Fire, Flying, and Electric. Half my team. >.> A Buizel at Valley Windworks, grab Eevee at Hearthome city (that'll evolve into Espeon; Psychic type) and in the end catch Giratina.

I really should get a new team, hmm...:)

Heart Gold. In the start it would be Cyndaquil, Hoothoot (could be replaced by legendary bird Ho-Oh), Mareep, Gyarados, Eevee (Espeon(again!) and Dratini.

I often catch the first bird-Pokémon, use my starter, and then capture other early Pokémon that evolve into strong Pokémon.

I usually only use my starter til I beat the E4...and my team will consist of any pokemon I catch and like the look of and havent trained before.
Or ill train something if i need it, such as training a Chatot in Pt simply because I needed a Flyer.

In FireRed I grabbed a Pidgey early on and used it throughout the entire game... until the save file decided to delete itself. In SoulSilver, I got a Noctowl [rather, its base evolution, whose name escapes me at the moment] and kept it through to the first Final Four, but I think I'm going to retire him and pick up a Pidgey again. I just wasn't as happy with Noctowl as I am with Pidgeot. I mean, it'd be amazing if Noctowl was typed Psychic/Flying so I could get STAB with his moves, but so far his flying moves have been meh and his Psychic moves just don't hit hard enough.

In FR, my Geodude/Graveler was a god. In SS, I got her to Golem but for some reason she just fell by the wayside.

Aside from the Geodude and birds, it depends on who my starter is, but I always keep the starter throughout the game. Sue me, I'm sentimental :D

I usually have a Fly-er. And a Surf-er when I don't have the Walk Through Walls cheat, and I always keep my starter. They take me right to the E4. :)

In SoulSilver I started with Totodile and caught a Hoothoot, Geodude, and traded a Bellsprout for the Onix Rocky. Later I got the Togepi and added it to my team. I've kept these five Pokemon in my party throughout the game. >___> I had three Pokemon weak to grass, three Pokemon weak to Electric, and three not-fully-evolved Pokemon in my team until after I beat the league.
Fun times. :3
