Your thoughts on Zoey?

What does everyone think of Zoey as a character? We've discussed a bit about her anger with Ash entering Contests and how she feels that trainers should bug the hell out of her territory, but other than that we never really discussed her character otherwise.

The rival getting the most attention in D/P is Paul obviously but Zoey is the first real female rival we've ever had and I want to know how people feel the writers are handling the Dawn/Zoey rivalry. Is it better, worse, or about the same as past rivalries? Do you like Zoey as a character or feel she's barely above a filler character in terms of personality?

I really like Zoey's Pokemon, (Shellos, Glameow, and Misdreavous all rock!), but I think Zoey herself isn't as interesting as all the other rivals we've had, the most she has going for her is that she's female. What are your thoughts?
 
I guess it's nice to see her interacting with Ash - he only really dealt with Drew for an extended period like once, and that almost entirely to prove coordinators didn't suck. Other than that...bleh. Personality-wise, Zoey's nothing special.

(Since the Ash-Drew thing, both Ash and Brock came in and reached the finals of contests with ease despite having absolutely no practice in them, Ash tying for the win and Brock - whose skills were NEVER developed in that region - freaking robbed, both involving the same championship-level coordinator, who beat up on a gym leader's underling. Drew beat the beginning-of region Taillow and never got a rematch - ya still wonder why people debate the trainer-coordinator nonsense? Here's your answer. I don't agree with them, but the case has its own logic.)
 
I don't like Zoey. She has good Pokémon but I dislike how rude she is.
 
I don't like Zoey's personality. She's like a female version of Paul. She only respects people who she thinks are worth battling and treats everyone else like crap.
 
I love Zoey! She is one of my favorite rivals. I just love how we finally got a main girl rival in the show.

And her and Dawn also get along very well, which I like. And it adds a yuri ship in. 8D

But yeah. I really like her attitude and all. Plus her outfit is awesome!

But yeah, we have all there yaoi ships, but not until now did we have a good yuri one.

Also, I think she's quite a cute character. I love her hair and her outfit. Makes me want to make that outfit ^^;
 
I like her character design, but she's pretty bland in every other department.

Who's she been rude to, though, apart from Ash?

But I agree Zoey easily falls short of Harley or Drew. Even Kengo was cooler.

I don't care about her much. She's too dull for me to care about. Granted, I don't care much about Dawn and Paul either. No, wait, Dawn annoys me and I hate Paul. So Zoey's in a good place if I don't care about her.

but Kengo didn't have a bunch of gay rumors sprouting up about him before he even premiered, now did he? While I agree with others that Nozomi's pretty bland, I at least like her for the fact that so many people were quick to proclaim "dyke!" when she had only appeared briefly in the opening. XD
 
She's a good rival, but a really boring character. Other than the fact that she seems predatory around Hikari, it doesn't seem like she has other many quirks.

I don't really get why the fanbase freaking out about teh yuri before Zoey had even debuted makes her an interesting character. All it says it that the fanbase is shallow, imo.
 
Anyone else think Zoey acts like a younger and less-feminine version of Solidad? Zoey acts more like Dawn's mentor than her rival, a lot like we had with Solidad/May in the Grand Festival.

I can see why we had this change of pace because having two rivals that hate the main character in the same saga (both Paul and Zoey acting mean to Ash/Dawn would be overkill), is out of place so they probably decided to try the friendly rival route.

I do hope Zoey has more of an interesting interaction with Dawn in the future because I'd rather her not be one of the more forgettable rivals in the series. There's a lot of untapped potential between Dawn/Zoey that they really need to explore.
 
At the moment, I can see Zoey easily becoming as forgettable as Tracy. She's much more amiable to Dawn than we've seen in any other rivalries so far:

*Ash and Gary was almost never interacted directly
*Drew was unpredictable and unreadable but seemed to hold a lot of disdain for May at the beginning of his run
*Harley always had a nasty trick up his sleeve
*Paul hates Ash, who in return has no clue how to react back (friendly every time they meet and then hating at the end of each episode)
*Harrison, Tyson, Morrison, Richie, and Solidad have between 2-5 episodes each in the entire anime, so they can't really be fairly compared

At the same time, she just seems bland. I don't like Zoey, but thats because of how the writers have made her act. She just really hasn't been handled well

sometimes, the fanbase can help blow things out of proportion enough to make a character far more interesting than they actually are, like Gravy and his hilarious Mukubird memes. XD
 
From her one dub appearance she's... boring. :x I said different in one of the episode review threads, but my opinion can change at any moment, darnit.

I don't really care for Glameow, but pink Shellos and Misdreavus are cool. So she's got that going for her at least.

Gravy is truly the one member of the Fanbase I would declare my love for instantly...and the only member I would put on my turkey even.

Zoey's recent Japanese appearances were...kinda cool.

Yamato, can you translate what she said to Jessie when she battled her in the recent episode (Shellos)? She sounded kinda mad but I don't know why...
 
I think she got pissed when Musashi said that it's pointless to try to use your Pokemon skillfully, to which Nozomi responds that you should work hard.
