I've installed this game today. Having played the Ys I&II Complete remakes, which were 2D, and which I've really enjoyed...I didn't think that this title could measure up, since they've done it in 3D this time. However, I was surprised...

The gameplay is awesome! Action is just as fast-paced as in I&II, only you get a lot more control over how you execute attacks in this one. There are many really cool moves you can do here. For example, you can jump and plunge your sword into the enemy from the top, causing a stun effect. By constantly hitting the attack key, you can perform lightning-fast combos, with a different animations per attack, giving a really cool result!

The artwork in this game is quite pretty, too. Most illustrations were painted - not rendered from 3D models. The character sprites are an exception, as it would be a very long job to draw all those animation frames by hand.

The music is really nice, too - as expected from a Nihon Falcom game. :D

I should note that although this game is in Japanese, an English translation patch by fans is in the works and is
nearing completion
. ;)

I've tried capturing some of the action, but obviously, screenshots don't do it any justice at all. :| It's better than nothing! :D (These are thumbnails, click them for the full view!)

Yay, pretty title screen.

You don't want to mess with this guy. :x Ys games are well-known for their engaging boss battles. This guy's fight was no exception.

Our red-haired hero loves flowers. :p

Eat my flame magic, you vile demonic creature!11

Slashed back to hell!

... oh, hey, I'm curious. How are the controls, this time around? I've played the PS2 version of YsVI and found the controls to be spot-on... except for one particular move which I - and a lot of other players - could never pull off with any sort of ease. Is there anything like that in Ys-F, or did Falcom give us poor unskilled players a break this time..?

But man, I'm dying to play this. T_T Falcom! Start selling a "normal" version of the game already~

PC version = normal version! D: The PS2 ports are said to have had crappy alterations done to them... :| I don't own the PS2 version(s).

I have not played Ys VI at all, so I don't know. I love the controls in this version, that's all I can say, haha. I have not progressed far into the game, because I'd rather not spoil some events for the time when I get the English translation patch. What does that difficult move look like? o_O The translator is in the process of finishing up translating the script, or has already finished. Then it'll have to be inserted back into the game, and after that comes QC period. My guess is that the patch will be available within one or two months. :D I can wait.

Has this been annouced to arrive to the US as a PS2 port, anyway? If not, you might want to import it and use the patch when it's released. :)

More screenshots, yay!

I like the town. :D

I think the girl doesn't want me to bother her. But that's okay, by the end of the game, she's going to want to sleep with Adol...like any girl in Ys games.. >_>;

I basically ran though this sucker, with my sword!

Slash!

Silly Rhebol(sp?), running towards its doom...

...poor thing got owned. XD

And z0mg, this place actually has another Ys fan. XD;;

Ah. Sorry! My mistake, I wasn't that clear: I meant "normal" as in "not in a limited edition package".

Currently, Falcom's mail-order page only has the Premium Box edition of the game, which retails for 80+USD as it includes eight pack-in music CDs. So, I was hoping they'd release a standard version of the game - that is, without the CDs - for a more reasonable price. ^^;

Um... The YsVI move in question is the "Dash Jump". It required the player to run forward, stop for a beat, and then press Attack and Jump simultaneously. It didn't always work. If there aren't any moves in YsF that require such 'perfect' timing, it'll be such a relief..!

That I know of, there's been no word whatsoever on a PS2 port of YsF, much less a US release of said port. So, I'm really glad to hear about that patch. Thanks for the heads up on that~! ♥

And man, those character sprites are cute. I'm envious; the PS2 version of YsVI dumped the sprites in favour of 'typical' polygonal character models (there's one of those "crappy alterations"). I admit that they didn't look half bad and that they seemed to "fit" with the backgrounds a little more, but they lost all the sharp detail that those sprites have...

Oh, I see. XD Yeah, these Japanese PC games tend to be quite expensice. :|

As for the Dash Jump, I'm not sure. I spent quite a bit of time trying to do it, with no success.........but I'm guessing that it has to be there, in order to get across those long pits. That, or maybe there will be a special ring for it. I walk towards the end of a platform, and the camera teases me by going across the cliff, showing some item on the other side. >.<;;

Can't really read any Japanese to see if any of those describe Dash Jump. :< Oh, and that comic strip is hilarious. XD

Long pits? just dash & use the wind spirit bracelet...

Oh! I knew there had to be some item... :p I've decided to not play the game any further, however. Gonna wait for the translation patch.

PS. It would seem that the Ys VI translation project has been resurrected. Great news for those who've got the Japanese PC version. :D
