There have been a lot of video games inspired by this absolute classic of a manga (and anime)
Currently the ones who are the most known are Duel Links and Master Duel.
Did you play any?

I used to play Duel Links a lot but kind of drifted away.
 
Yeah Master Duel is pretty cool. Is it the closest emulation of the paper TCG right now, right?
I played on launch but kind of could not decide which deck to spend my gems on so I drifted away LOL. How is the gem availability nowadays?

Discounting unofficial simulators, more or less yeah (of course there are still differences)

As far as gem availability goes uhh...idk all I know is I've managed to build at least a few competent decks (including my main deck) using the gems you get for different rewards and events and I think right now I got like 6000 something gems still and I don't spend them that often, I mostly craft the additional cards I need if I can lol.
 
I tried out Duel Links recently and that was very cool. I like how they included classic characters that I grew up with (yes, I'm a Yugiboomer).
Sometimes I mess around with Yu-Gi-Oh Tag Force.

I haven't played the main game since... around the time 5D's debuted. Tbh, I have no interest in learning every mechanic I missed out on and 10 years of meta.
But maybe I'll hop back into Speed/Rush Duels since its a new format.

Yeah that is totally fair. There is...a lot. Keeping up with the meta was always what I was the worst at lol. That is why I usually just like playing casually (this applies to all tcgs I've dabbled in)
I want to be able to play my fun but janky decks that have no place in competitive play but have a funny flavor

I fell off the YGO meta sometime around 2017 and returning to it now feels like a foreign country. I don't understand anything anymore.

Instead of re-learning YGO, I just went to Magic the Gathering instead.
One thing I like about Magic is that any card is viable in a deck. Creature types function as archetypes but without being as restrictive.
