It's been a while since I've shared some writing around here on Bulbagarden, so I'm super happy I managed to finish up this oneshot so I could share it. This was just a little idea that sort of made its way into my head, so I made up a couple of ocs to make the story, and the rest is history I suppose. As usual, I can't ask for anything more than for you to enjoy! I'm always looking for improvement, so feel free to comment constructively on anything that could possibly be changed. ♡

"Grandma, what's it like out there in the great big world?"
Sanami chuckled, hearing her granddaughter, Yurina, ask the question while she stared out the big windows of the house's living room. The little girl's hands were pressed against the glass along with her face, practically unmoving. From here, the sprawling reach of the sea stretched out farther than her eyes could go, partially obscured by the snowy haze enveloping Snowpoint City at the time.
"Curious about the world, hm?" Sanami questioned, smiling fondly. "Come, I'll tell you a story."
Yurina peeled herself from the window and scurried over, jumping up onto the armchair and sitting in her grandmother's lap. "You mean you've left Sinnoh before?"
"That's right; I've been all over the world!" With a hand, Sanami pointed at a small picture frame resting on the table before them. "Could you hand me that picture there?"
Yurina nodded and walked over to grab it, making sure to hold onto it firmly with both of her little hands as she was helped back up. Sanami took it from her, wiping a bit of dust off of it with a finger.
"When I was around your mother's age, I lived in Galar for… was it seven years? Yes, that's right, seven."
"Seven years?! Wow…" Yurina breathed, wriggling a little to see the picture as well. It looked like a city of some kind, with lots of brick houses with blue roofs, and a huge gear with platforms. It looked so cool!
"It sure was a while; I was only supposed to be there for three years, hah!" Sanami replied. "I guess you could say Galar sort of grew on me! This city here is called Motostoke." she explained.
"Moto… stoke?" Yurina repeated slowly.
"That's it! Motostoke was a city that was all about mechanical marvels run on steam-power. At the time, it was quite the sight to see compared to little old Snowpoint."
"What kind of Pokémon were there?"
"Well… I remember when I first got there, I was nearly knocked off my feet by one of Galar's native Pokémon! That means it was a Pokémon from that region,"
"What did it look like?" Yurina asked eagerly.
"It was a big bird Pokémon, unlike one I had ever seen!" Sanami grinned, raising her hands in an overdramatic fashion. "But instead of feathers, it looked like it was made of metal!"
"Then it had to be a Steel-type!"
"That's right! You're one smart cookie, Yurina! If I didn't have my trusty Pokédex on me, why, I wouldn't have even known its name: Corviknight!"
"Corviknight…" Yurina's eyes practically sparkled with fascination. "I wanna see Pokémon like that someday!"
"And I'm sure you will, my dear; with spirit like that, I know you'll be all over the whole wide world!" Sanami agreed. "Just remember me when you do, alright?"
Yurina hugged her, embracing the warmth radiating from her in both body and spirit. "I won't ever forget you, Grandma,"
From another room, quiet footsteps approached, before a Pokémon's head popped out, a Jigglypuff. "Jiggi-lyyy… ♪" it said, almost sounding slightly chiding in tone.
"Well, hello, Jigglypuff," Sanami greeted her Pokémon with a crinkled smile.
"Hi, Jigglypuff!" Yurina waved.
"If Jigglypuff's here, then it must be time for my nap,"
"Does that mean you won't be able to tell me another story?"
"Sure I can, dear; I just need a few hours of shuteye first," Sanami chuckled, standing to her feet. "Oh, I know! Your father should be out in the backyard. Why don't you ask him your big question, and see what he says?"
"Great idea, Grandma!" Yurina said, already hurrying out of the living room in the direction of the back door.
"Don't forget to put on some warm clothes!" Sanami called, laughing a little hearing her granddaughter's footsteps gradually move to another direction in the house.
It was a cold morning in Snowpoint, or at least a chillier one than usual for the snow-covered city. The weather looked to be here to stay for at least a few days, so Hiroto, alongside his trusty partner, Gallade, were preparing to slice up some extra firewood to warm up their home, as requested by his wife. A group of logs rested idly in the fresh snow, one of which Hiroto was currently dragging a little to the side to start slicing.
"Ready to go, Gallade?" he asked his Pokémon.
"Lade!" Gallade grunted in response, readying its blade-like elbows.
"Then let's give this one a good Cut!"
In a deft movement, Gallade easy tore through the log, cutting it into strips able to be thrown into the fireplace indoors. It smiled, satisfied with its handiwork.
"Nice work!" Hiroto cheered; he gathered up the sliced pile and tossed them to the side, starting a pile, before moving onto the next log.
As he did, Gallade noticed a small silhouette approaching the duo, brightening a little once it recognized who it was. "Gall-al!" it said in greeting.
"Hiya, Gallade!" Yurina waved, quickly fidgeting with her scarf as it slumped from around her neck from the movement.
"Yurina? What're you doing out here?" Hiroto asked, setting down the log. "Wouldn't you rather be inside where it's nice and warm?"
"I have a question, Daddy!"
"Well, ask away then,"
"What's it like out there in the great big world?" she made sure to raise her hands high up to show what she meant, even standing up on the balls of her feet. "I asked Grandma, and she showed me this really big place she lived in called… uhm… Mo-to-stoke. Yeah!"
"That's certainly a big question, but I think I can answer it!"
Yurina was already at her father's side, reaching for his hand. "Have you been all over the world like Grandma?" she asked.
"Not quite all over the world, 'Rina, but when I was little like you, I used to live in a place called Hoenn,"
"Ho… enn. What was Ho-enn like?"
"A lot different from here in Sinnoh, that's for sure!" Hiroto laughed. "Since it was a lot sunnier in Hoenn, there wasn't very much snow, unlike here ."
"You mean some places can have no snow?" Yurina questioned, almost taken aback by the revelation.
Yep! I loved it there; it was where I met Gallade, all the way back when it was just a little Ralts. It only ended up evolving into Gallade when I came here and met Mommy,"
"Were you and Mommy Pokémon Trainers?"
"That's right! That's why I decided to move here in the first place. I had been all across Hoenn, and I wanted to go see what else was out there. Mommy and I were both in the Gym Challenge. You remember what that is, right?"
"Like what we saw on the TV?"
"Right! So I guess to answer your question… The world's a big place to explore, but it's up to you…" he reached out with a finger to playfully flick Yurina's nose. "To find out what special things might come from it!"
"Does that mean I might meet someone like Mommy too one day?"
Hiroto made a little sound of shock, clearing his throat awkwardly as he gently swiveled Yurina around back in the direction of the back door. "W-Why don't you go and ask Mommy your big question too? Maybe she can tell you something else to help answer your question!"
"Okay! Bye Daddy, bye Gallade!"
Once she was out of earshot, Gallade gave Hiroto a smug look, to which the man shot a pouty look right back at it.
Grandma's been all over the world, and has learned a whole lot because of it… Daddy met Mommy because he wanted to explore the world… I wonder what Mommy knows about the world?
As Yurina began to take off her heavy winter gear, a sweet smell began to waft through the air, cherry and vanilla intertwining to create an alluring, appetizing scent. Following it eagerly, Yurina found herself in the kitchen, where her mother, Chiyoko, was setting down a plate of tasty-looking, pink-colored sweets on the countertop.
"Hi, Mommy!" Yurina said, staring up at her.
"Oh! Hello, sweetie," Chiyoko reached down to hold her daughter in her arms. "Did you get bored of looking out the window?"
"I have a question, a big one!"
"A big question, hm? Well, let's see if I can answer it for you,"
"What's it like out there in the great big world? Grandma's been all over, which is why she knows so much about stuff, and Daddy loves to explore, and that's how he met you!"
Chiyoko let her sit on the countertop, picking up one of the macarons and offering it to her daughter. "You always ask great questions, Yurina! Let me think…" Taking one of the sweets for herself, she bit into it, making a little 'mm' sound. "Do you know where these came from, sweetie?"
"I dunno, but they're really yummy…" Yurina said, munching on the macaron happily.
"I found out how to make them myself from a place called Kalos," Chiyoko explained. "At first, the only reason I even wanted to go there was just to train my Pokémon… I was so focused on that, I almost ended up missing out on how lovely the region was! There's so many pretty sights, sounds, Pokémon… and food!"
"I want to go to Kalos one day like you, Mommy!" Yurina declared, rubbing the crumbs from her face with her arm.
"That sounds like a delightful idea, Yuri,"
"Why don't we go together? You, me, Daddy and Grandma!"
Chiyoko giggled at her enthusiasm, giving her a little pat on the head. "Someday, maybe… I'd like that."
