So, Z-moves, one off super moves to be used during battle. What do you think of the concept? Any ideas on what the other types' moves could be? General thoughts on other mechanics to do with the moves?

THREAD RENAMED AND OP EDITED TO REFLECT ACTUAL INFORMATION

Probably revealed more info in the upcoming months or leave it for the game release. It does look interesting though.

Let's see what Pokenchi says this Sunday.
If we don't, it is likely we hear it in World Championships.

I saw 'Elemental' and came to have a look xD

This idea could be true, and may explain Ash-Greninja's Shuriken. But it's probably just a Royale Battle feature. The trailer was focused heavily on this new battle type.

Highly unlikely they'll keep the new feature exclusive to Battle Royal.

It is the new power-up mechanic of this gen.

It looks like it goes trainer dance for the move typ e-> energy transfer to Pokemon -> energy powers up an attack/performs a new move of the type. With Electric, Fire, Grass and Water shown so far.

The Electric dance looks like a lightning bolt and the Water one looks like waves/flowing water. Not sure what Grass is? A tree? Reaching up for sunlight? Fire is probably a flame of some sort since there's not much else you can do for fire but it doesn't look much like anything in the video.

I'm wonder how all the other types will be represented in the dance, some like Dark or Fairy will be interesting for sure.

They kind of remind me of the ultimate starter moves in a way.

I think the key element to focus on is that each diamond displays an elemental symbol when activated, suggesting that this is something available for all types. Perhaps these are the Unova gems reworked for a super-move mechanic? Or maybe Pokemon is finally doing limit breaks.

Limit Breaks+Reworked gems makes sense. Have the gems as a held item that isn't consumed, and a synergy bar that fills up during battle. Maybe the whole point of aeeing stat changes and type effectiveness is because of how synergy works in battle. Like to be in synch with your Pokemon you need to be in tune with the battle flow and make the rigjt decisions, if you keep onusing netural or NVE moves along with ignoring the stat changes you go nowhere with it.

I've got an idea relating to the "Super Move" mechanic.

There's 36 diamonds - 18 for physical moves and 18 for special moves.
There are specific diamonds aside from these that can give a fully evolved Pokemon a new appearance (possibly based off of their signature move), increase the BST, and power-up their signature move. Such Pokemon that could receive this are:

  • Raichu - Volt Tackle
  • Chesnaught - Spiky Shield
  • Delphox - Mythical Fire
  • Greninja - Water Shuriken
  • Rowlet's final evolution - ???
  • Litten's final evolution - ???
  • Popplio's final evolution - ???
  • Rockruff's final evolution - ???
I don't expect this to be the case, was just spitballing ideas.

Considering the main site states that we'll "discover moves more powerful than any seen before" I can assume that that tidbit is referring to to those admittedly very flashy attacks & emblems.

What's interesting to wonder is, if these new moves will literally be more powerful than any seen before. V-Create's power stands at 180, and I can potentially see them surpassing that, but Self-Destruct & Explosion both exceed that, with Self-Destruct at 200 and Explosion at 250. Will they surpass the base power of the self-KO moves? They've had the highest base power of an attack since Gen II.

As for if they're linked to some kind of "synchro" evolution, I have no idea. It's perfectly possible, considering that you wouldn't necessarily need to be in the final/synchronized form to actually used the attack.

So, what they are has officially been confirmed, super moves that can be used once per battle, one per type.
I have to hope that the users physical/special attack don't affect the damage, it'd be a shame to lose effectiveness only because you're Pokemon uses the wrong attack type for the Z-Move.
Fighting type Z-move must be Kamehameha or no deal.
Also, I only pray that this does NOT replace the Mega Evolution Mechanic.

So, I'll go ahead and ask the obvious question (I mean, it has been asked already elsewhere, but this is the dedicated thread): Why "Z"? Does this have anything to do with Zygarde?

My theory is that Zygarde 100% (maybe others, we've only just learned about the actual mechanic), will have its own unique Z-move: Core Enforcer. I speculate that this is the big Z-move that will be hyped up throughout the storyline, before coming to a head as you use it in a post game "Z Episode" to help Zygarde protect the ecosystem. At least that's my theory.

I hope Z-moves will have a lot of mythology behind them. Like some backstory would be nice.

Core Enforcer isn't anything like the Z-moves. It doesn't inflict any damage.

I think that "Z" just means "battle finisher", much like the more blatant Final Smash.

Hold up, where did you get that information? You see it in the announcement video for Zygarde's formes being used against Garchomp with the super effective SFX!

On the topic itself, what Garu says about some pokes getting signature Z-Moves is exactly what I was thinking might happen. I mentioned a couple of times that, in my opinion, Core Enforcer was written all over the Z-Moves.

I was wrong about it not being a damaging move, but the description says that "it can remove abilities of a Pokémon if the Pokémon it hits has already moved this turn". That most likely means that isn't a hyper offensive move, being more strategic.

It isn't listed under Z-moves on the official site. That should speak for itself.

Also, it doesn't throw the name "Core Enforcer" up on the screen like the others do with their names (personally, this detail reminds me of Mega Evolutions in the TCG, whose move names are splashed across the card artwork in big, golden letters).
