Zoey vs. Kenny vs. Nando: Showdown

To finally settle this in a proper thread for it. The three reoccuring Contest Rivals. Who is better!

Go at it folks. But, support your arguement if you choose to argue.

And try to keep the bashing down to a minimum...well, except for Zoey. Bash her to hell, please!

But seriously folks, no user-bashing because someone doesn't like your character. Let's keep it civil!

Well, though seriously, I don't have a distinct favorite. Nozomi's arguably been the most active of the three in terms of Hikari's development and has a semi-friendly rivalry going on. Kengo's got the 'yo, I know you from the past' thing going on and his rivalry seems to be slightly more intense. Naoshi is a fucking bard. That's just plain awesome - when was the last time we had a bard in Pokemon?

I hate Zoey, and I dislike Kenny, so Nando wins.

In my opinion though, there are all boring.

However, this arguement was coming up in alot of thread so this should hopefully give a forum for people to express their opinions on hating Zo...what Contest characters they don't care for.

Yeah, that's pretty cool. I just wish Nando was a more interesting Bard. Y'know Bard's, or Troubadours, were known for being promiscuous. Nando needs to end up being Ash, Dawn, AND Paul's dad. And Tracey too.

Don't forget Takeshi, Kasumi, the various Shinou Gym Leaders, Haruka, Shuu, Pikachu, Harley, Shirona...Hell, new favorite pairing. Naoshi x EVERYONE. Including Pokemon. Canon, amirite?

None of the characters are all that interesting, personality-wise, except for maybe Shinji. It'd be nice for all of them to have more defining them. I just really think having a bard is surprisingly creative of the writers.

Kengo, by far for me. While he isn't all too interesting now, he certainly has potential, and I really like his quirky gym interest he has going on. Also, it seems as if he's got a crush on Hikari, and this is EXTREMELY interesting as I don't really see Hikari taking interest in him at all

This could call for some awesome scenes where Kengo is all angsty and shit. Because nothing is better than pre-teenage angst.

Yeah, Nando and Zoey have potential...but it's just...I'm not seeing it.

Meanwhile Kenny attracted me from when I was the first to lay eyes on him when I found that magazine scan with him. Plus, now hate me for this, I found his dub voice adorable...it sounded kinda like mine (my voice is high for a 17 year old). He also kinda resembles me, sort of...I see it atleast.

Plus his attraction to Dawn is so like I remember crushes being like when I was that age. Hiding behind teasing. Then seeing a girl in a dress for the first time and going *blush*

But none of the girls I knew wore skirts like *that*.

None of them are bad characters or anything, but I don't really find any of them all that interesting.

I admittedly liked Zoey a lot at the very beginning of D/P, but then when she just showed up to "train" Dawn in every ep and acted too friendly with her, I pretty much got bored with her. I honestly don't care about the fact that she forced the trade on Ash/Dawn, its just that aside from the fact that she's the first girl rival, she doesn't have much else going for her.

Kenny is also just ok. Plain design definitely, but his childhood history with Dawn could prove more amusing moments in the anime like in his debut ep. I don't really have strong feelings about him either way.

Nando has the cool design going for him and the spanish dub accent, but other than that his personality is pretty dry. Out of Dawn's current rivals, he has the least chemistry with her and feels rather tacked on as a third rival.

So right now I don't really care for them. The depressing part of this poll is it really proves Dawn has the least interesting rivals in the series. Sigh.

Yeah, maybe that's where I find my attraction to Kengo, he reminds me of myself when I was in elementary school

Hm... I think Zoey's a better character if you imagine her to be chasing after a lesbian relationship with Dawn. Yeah sure... training... OF COURSE that's what it is.

 

[Nando]

Zoey: I just don't like her personality. People who act nice most of the time but have that one thing that turns them into sheer creeps, I don't like that at all. I also would've rather had the Aipom and Buizel trade happen naturally without her influence. On the plus side, AppealShipping is incredibly funny, so she's not all bad.

Kenny: I cannot find anything interesting about him at all. He just doesn't bring anything new to the table.... the "childhood rival" thing's been done before, his personality is very dry, and the PenguinShipping idea is just a duller version of ContestShipping. His one saving grace is the fact he has a fairly interesting collection of Pokémon like Breloom.

Nando: I find Nando to be a breath of fresh air. Most of the rivals in the past have been antagonistic to varying degrees, so Nando is the first to actually be more friendly. The whole troubadour and design thing is another plus, and I like how he presents himself as a sort of mentor for Dawn while still being a potential Gym rival for Ash too.

So I'd rank them from best to worst: Nando, Zoey, Kenny.

Kenny because simpler is better. 8D And he's just plain adorable. Kenny's the man, yeah.

Yeah, honestly I think Kenny's plainess is his best part. As Scott said in another thread, he actually seems like a cute 10-year old instead of some "Knowledgeable Expert of Contest and God Incarnate Do AS I SAY MORTALS BEFORE I CAST YOU TO HELL AND FEAST UPON YOUR INNARDS TRADE AIPOM GODDAMIT DON'T DO BOTH CONTEST AND GYM YOU FRIGGIN LOSER OR I'LL KILL YOU AND RAPE YOU WITH YOUR OWN HARP JESUS CHRIST AMEN FRIGGIN ASSHOLE!!" Zoey.

Although, then again whenever Zoey has one of those sudden PMS moments I smile. Because it's her best trait.

Kengo because he's hot for his age (I personally refuse to believe Shinji is ten)
Not only that
he's adorable, like a chubby Richie. His character design has nice colors. He even got an ok dub name, although plain (<but that's me being picky)
Naoshi, I'm completely neutral towards. I dont hate him nor do I love him. I also have zero interest in him

Nozomi - her character design (aside from her hair) I love. I like her hair color but her hair style is too short. At least make it longer to maybe Shinji or Kengo's length

Kenny will own. His Pokemon are all evolved, and their evolutions are really powerful.

Hmmm. We don't really see many females with short hair. The most obvious was Kasumi, of course, but I think Nozomi's hair style fits her. It's got a very...serious look to it. I'm not sure it'd look better longer. I'm sort of curious as to why she's got a bad rap among the Pokemon fandom though. It doesn't really make sense to me.
