From the sneak peak we all got of the movie, is it safe to assume Transform is in Zoroark's movepool? If so could that mean Transform will play a larger role in Gen 5? Maybe a field effect? What would this mean to the game mechanics of Gen 5 overall?

The trailer was found here upon redirect from Serebii.net:

Shapeshifting is not the same thing as illusions.

Transform actually turns you into something else.

What Zoroark is doing, by definition, is illusions, and thus not Transform.

Like a kitsune? drrrrrr, I feel smart know.

Still cool though.

I'd be disappointed if Zoroark is more like the man behind the curtain, and all those awesome legendary beast attacks where just some sort of light-show >> If he's so special, I'd think he'd have more up his sleeve than illusionary tricks

I kinda figured Zoroark could shapeshift, or at least trick people into thinking it has a different form. Looking at this dark, kitsune-based Pokemon, and the "Shadow Ash" at the end of one of the trailers... it adds up, don't you think?

I don't know... Considering how it can launch attacks like the Legendary Beasts in the trailer (unless those attacks are just illusions too and do no harm), it seems like in the case of Zoroark creating illusions might just be a another way of saying shape shifting.

It could be something new and spontaneous. Something that catches us off-guard.

But since Transform only works on other Pokemon, and we clearly see Zoroark taking on the illusion of Ash, it cannot be Transform.

I wouldn't say that. This is the anime, not the games. I've seen Ditto Transform into a cannon.

I'd actually prefer to see it have a Transform-like ability (as someone else mentioned in another thread) where it would appear to be another Pokémon to the opponent, but would still have its own moveset.

They actually said that Zoroark is based off of a Kitsune

Zoroark isn't using the move Transform, he's making Illusions, through our eyes, we see "another" Ash ;)

I knew the cannon would get brought up.

Ditto hasn't transformed into objects since... that very episode. So it's a rather frail argument.

But this is the anime! Where dreams come true and shit gets weird. That being said, this is almost certainly a reflection of Zoroark's in-game Ability. Which is why, from a game perspective (that's what this thread is going for I think, ya?) it can't work.

I believe I was the one who suggested that ability.

Zoroark's ability would be something like:

Illusion Veil
Takes the appearance of another random Pokemon until it takes damage.

"Aha! An Weezing! I'll simply counter with my Alakazam and why does that Weezing using Dark Pulse?!"

When has ditto had such an important role in an episode to actually allow us to see its capabilities?

Depending on how broken they want to make that particular Zoroark's abilities, illusions can affect all five senses. Essentially what it's doing is affecting how your mind perceives the sensory input, so even though it may not be doing anything in real life, people will still feel the damage done by the Beast's moves because their mind has been tricked into feeling it. There's optical, tactile and auditory illusions, and that's all Zoroark really needs to trick you into thinking its a Raikou hitting you with a Thunder.

Of course, I doubt the anime or Game Freak would be that clever with illusions considering how bad they are with the butterfly effect and how badly portrayed antimatter is :/

I could have sworn the anime's done something like this with Ghost Types before.

Weren't they supposed to reveal more info about Zorua's and Zoroark's abilities sometime this month, like in a CoroCoro or somethin'? If so, maybe we could learn more about this... like if we get a brand-new ability that only Zoroark can have or something along the lines of that.
