So I was scrolling through YouTube recommendations recently and a video by HoopsandHipHop was discussing rumours from gens IV-VI. Two in particular that caught my eye were ones regarding the pre-Gen V period and the run up to Black & White.

Apparently, a leaker leaked information regarding the amount of new Pokemon within Gen V, and that it would be 157. One off the actual amount we got, 156. The next rumour regards a Pokemon that would be to Reshiram & Zekrom what Giratina was to Dialga & Palkia - a third counterpart. The most interesting bit is the fact that it is described as a large, green cobra like Pokemon. A description that Zygarde fits quite well.

I thought I'd post this as there's been a lot of Zygarde discussion lately and I thought this was actually pretty interesting. If you want the bit about Zygarde, skip to 2:27 in the video below.

That´s very cool actually. Zygarde is Dragon Type, exactly like Reshiram and Zekrom are, as opposed to the Gen VI legendaries. Quite intriguing.

Also, an other interesting rumour in this video: Team Gear. Considering we got Magearna, and a gear- based city in the movie, I wonder if Team Flare were originally going to be Team Gear?

The "leaker" probably just guessed that the overall number of Pokemon would be a round number (even though that was never the case in any generation). Since we already knew that BW's main story would only feature new Pokemon, it was obvious that there would be at least 150 of them. So there's nothing impressive about his prediction, which was wrong.

The idea of Reshiram and Zekrom not being followed by a gray dragon sounds nonsensical to me. There is no reason to think that Zygarde was originally designed for Generation V.

Team Gear went around on 4chan as part of a fake leak during the XY prerelease as well. According to the "leak," they were a time-traveling group.

Just for fun, here is the rest of that leak: http://www.ign.com/boards/threads/a-lot-of-pokemon-x-y-rumors-including-time-travel.452895308/

This situation reminds me of Serperior, funnily enough. Serperior is heavily inspired by French royalty and aristocracy, and debuted in Gen V. Look where Gen VI's home region was - Kalos, based on France. An allusion to the future, maybe? Perhaps. Look at the beta turtle Pokemon from then Gen II artwork - widely speculated to be an early unused concept art of Tirtouga. It would not surprise me if Zygarde was designed during Gen V development but left unused until Gen VI for whatever reason.

It's a possibility, but without sounding rude, it sounds like clutching at a straw to me. I definitely get the gear connection wigth Magearna but I don't know how that'd cast over into the movie, especially when it's confirmed that Jarvis is the antagonist of the 19th movie.

Ehhh... maybe... but they said in interviews that the Unova starters were each supposed to represent a different cultural attribute - Snivy is a French aristocrat, Tepig appears to be Zhu Bajie from the Chinese story Journey to the West, and Oshawott is a Japanese samurai. This trend is noticeably repeated with Gen V's Legendary trios (the Swords come from the French novel The Three Musketeers, the Dragons are steeped in Taoist themes, and then the Kami are obvious Japanese). I think this has more to do with illustrating that Unova is, like New York, a cultural melting pot.
