"Absolutely." replied Volo. "The ten of us here will need to be on top form if we also want a shot at winning and being recognised. I say let's all give it our greatest efforts."

Ricky chuckled at this. "I wouldn't worry about it. They can fix it without us." He said with a smile, looking back over his shoulder. "Well I didn't plan on flaming out on day one, so I guess there's nothing to do but stick around. Got the hotel suite for the whole tournament anyways." He thought out loud. "And you better win it all. Heard the others on the way out, you really left an impression." Ricky remarked dryly.

As Ricky and Touko walked, another announcement dounded, though this one was nearly muffled by the roar of the fans.

"Touko Kenshin advances to the second round! There will be a brief intermission before we begin the next battle, featuring Michael Sovner and Thomas Stanley."

Many of the fans scrambled out of their seats as the announcement ended, presumably to find a restroom or restock on snacks. As the monitors broadcasting the event cut to a commercial break, Michael was staring at the screen wordlessly. The first battle had seemingly awoken something in the absentminded trainer, and now he was completely focused.

Remembering what they looked like on the monitor displaying the tournament bracket, Mick walked over to Michael and Thomas.
"Good luck to both of you," he said, before returning to his seat.

"Don't worry, I fully aim to win it." Touko said with an excited smile, popping her neck. She was pleased she got a reaction from her fellow competitors.

"A hotel room? I'm staying in the Central Pokémon Center." Touko said. Hard-to-ignore habits engraved into her head like a branding iron dictated she take up room and board in a close by Center.

Tej was sweating. The fight between Rick and Touko had set the standards a little bit too high for the Unovan man. While he is indeed a capable Trainer, he is nowhere as good as Ricky nor Touko. Their Pokemon too, had probably undergone an intensive training and cranked up with Protein, Vitamin and the likes, while Tej's Pokemon only trained for stage performances and got their battling experience from street fights, not gym battle.

Pac, sensing the anxiety in his Trainer, punched him playfully in the hip and curved his lips upward in a cunning smile. They will win, or lose trying. Quitting is never an option.

"Ayy dats right. These folks may be good, but we gon show em how we roll." Tej said, patting the Toxicroak in the head.

The announcer came back onto the intercom soon after the battle ended. "Michael Sovner and Thomas Stanley, please make your way to the arena! Michael Sovner and Thomas Stanley, please make your burp way to the arena! Excuse me folks."

The announcement pulled Michael back into reality, his excitement visible as he stood up and left the VIP lounge.

"This certainly is shaping up to be an interesting tournament," Rin commented, sipping her orange juice as her teal-colored Noivern nuzzled her shoulder. "Getting restless, aren't you?"

"That's an interesting Noivern," Mick said, as he walks towards it. "I don't think I've ever seen one with that color before."

"It is not easy breaking a habit 5 years strong created from having absolutely no money for much of your time on the road due to it being spent on medicinal goods, appropriate clothing, outdoor goods, bottled water for long treks through desert, sea, and frozen country, and food for human and Pokémon taste buds." Touko admitted.

The one flaw of traveling alone: you shoulder the burden of every expense.

"It was either the Center or stay the night elsewhere and hope no one unsavory discovers you. And before you ask, my family freezes my family credit card every time I leave the borders of Ecruteak, so I couldn't afford hotels in fear I might put a hole in my expenses for supplies." Touko spoke, jealousy of Ricky's posh wallet ringing clear.

"I do suppose teal is an odd base color to see on a Noivern," Rin chuckled, rubbing Izhar's head affectionately.

"It reminds me of the time I caught an Emolga with a light gold colouration in the areas where it should have been black. I found it while travelling and gave it to my little sister when I returned home." Volo reminisced. "She had such a happy smile when I showed her the Pokémon. Totally worth it."

"I didn't know you can have your Pokemon out of their Pokeballs in here," Mick said to himself before pulling one from his belt and opening it. "Come out, Hydreigon."

"I don't know if we're actually allowed to have them out," Rin smiled in a sheepish manner, "Izhar here despises his Pokeball, though." Izhar in question gave a noise of protest at this. In response, Rin gave him a pointed stare.

"I can't see a problem with my Swoobat being out here anyway." He said, gesturing to the bat on his arm. "I mean, it's not like she's a big Skarmory or something..."

"Guess that's our cue," Thomas said. His tone was lighthearted, but inside, he couldn't help but feel a small twinge of apprehension. He looked around the room, glancing at one particular trainer as he left the room. He looked the boy up and down for a brief moment, trying to gauge his opponent's demeanor. Calm? Focused? Distracted? It was hard to tell, but he'd find out soon enough.

Thomas quickly rose from his seat, stretching his arms before heading out.
