Things you want to see done in Pokemon Gen 8 (2019)

It really was a bummer how LGPE didn't have voice. For a game that's soooooo kid centric, it's a shame how some children couldnt play cause they're not good enough at reading yet.

They could play it with a parent like LGPE are meant to be experienced? Or they could actually be encouraged to read using LGPE. And it’s not something realistic here, seeing the staggering amount of people who learnt languages using different language versions of Pokémon.

I mean, BotW has a fair amount of cutscenes and those optional memories, which are voiced in eight different languages iirc. It's not like Pokemon is too small a franchise to put in that work either. Even so, I'm glad they haven't, cause half the time voice acting annoys me anyway. Sure I could see how it might add, and with those cut scenes in SuM/USUM they could have, but they're also lengthy and unskippable and no doubt button mashing through upon replays would only be more grating with constantly cut off spoken dialogue.

I want to see stats revised like they did with gen 3, as well as cutting down on moves, items and abilities.
Basically I want what they tried to do with Let's Go but done right.
Done 'right'? But... LGPE did things right, if you consider its purpose was to be a game adaptation of the Go phenomenon for a younger audience and their parents.

It seems more worthwhile to expand on moves/items/abilities, and give those that currently aren't particularly useful a boost. And if it's about the amount cluttering your bag when it comes to items (I feel ya), a storage feature seems far more useful

Even so, I'm glad they haven't, cause half the time voice acting annoys me anyway.

This is the actual reason I’d prefer if Pokemon avoided full voice acting. I like to imagine the character’s voice and accent, and I find the US/UK accents inconvenient and there’s unlikely to be any other supported English dialects. My native language isn’t a localisation option and even that isn’t an option (and I’d not use it since everything dubbed into my language somehow sounds cringey).

Same. So I usually put it on Japanese, cause I don't speak it, but it's an actual language so it doesn't sounds like gibberish either. As in it's not completely random, it's got rhytm and structure, but my brain doesn't have the necessary data to process it into an actual message so I can just tune out. And 'cringey' is a good point too. Like, translating can already change the tone so much, and to have the added klayer of voice acting? Nah thanks.

That said, I did like those little voice clips in BW2 in Roxy's and Elesa's gyms for example.

Hi my friend Serena And how are you,

It is a nice point and glad to see your quote for my question but it is not what I meant. Yup it is a bummer like you said because some people cannor read as you said but it still not like my point. My point is It is not about can reading or cannot because they tried ro increase some of the language began from XY following to ASOR with SM USUM until reaching LGPE but what I meant is that they should or must meet the fans expectations or at least trying to reach their expectations and if they don't care about fans expectations then at least care about the Nitendo Switch and its games expectations.

Now Nitendo Switch agames are much higher level than 3DS and 3DS Games. And the 3DS is much higher level than DS so the expectations is more and more than our expectations so they must or should meet it or at least trying to reach it so the fans can say that they are trying.

So, if they did good in Let's go and I said the point that I liked and they are more points such as multi pokemons can more and so on; so our expectations is it will like this in Pokemon Shield And Sword and to tell your the true then I really likes the designs and the colours in the new games but theiy also should complete and improve from LGPE and not back to 3DS level.

But no, instead of that then they back to 3ds games levels in multi things and this this the question is why that? Why they doing a game for Nitendo Switch if they want to back to the 3DS level, yes I see that the design and colour are greats but they work and improve from LGPE and not Bach to 3DS games levels

Why they removed the thing about seeing the wild pokemons before choosing the one who you want to challenge such as what was in LGPE? When no one move with you? And the best question is why no voice for any character in the game?

It will be really great if we can play with here the real people's voice such as let's imagine that the beginner the boy that we choose as the beginner and his coice is Miss Rica Matsumoto Chan who is the one who talk as ash voice in Japanese version and as we know then she always say pikachu Kimi ni kimeta in the anime as ash or satoahi's voice.

So in my opinion it will be great if choose Audino or bulbasour in the battle and as we know bulbasour is called fushigidane in Japanese so Rica Matsumoto will say Fushigidane Kimi ni kimeta. Or imagine that you are challeging a girl battle and her voice is dawn anime version's real voicer and she had audino mega evolution so she will say to Audino: audino in her JP Name ima wa watashitachi no hitotsu no chikara ano batoru misete. Kore wa watashitachi no subete no pawa kore wa mega shinka Audino which means she said to audino about it is a time for both the battle and audino to show us their own power when it become one with saying it is a time for showing all their power it is a time for mega evolution this is the audino mega evolution. And really it is great when you will choose ICE Z move and saying what been said by Lillie in last episode with doing the pose as the same time.

So it is about expectations more than you opinion but your point is good also.

And please look to all things that I wrote to understand about what I meant because I also said about FF12 in PS2, or to Crisis Core, and how they the characters in both these two games are talking when the story is going own, so why pokemon don't do this. It is Nitendo Switch time not to 3ds time. And even level 5 is allowing the characters to talk in Inazuma Eleven Go Galaxy in 3ds so why pokemon not? Ok, I got it that in 3ds but why not in Nitendo Switch Also?

Please, look to Captain Tsubasa in PS2, they not just talk in story no they also talk in the battle when you please such as the players say I will not allow you to make any assist or score Tsubasa, or I will not stop any shoot or I will not lose and this what they should do here also.

And I also want to
This what I really want and really I really want they to throw the RPG thing in garbage because RPG is really boring and I really don't like it. AND REALLY, THERE IS ONLY THERE IS ONE THING THAT I LIKE IN RPG

Oh, I forget to say that they also should do the two versions of story, such as Crisis Core and FF12, the is the story with the real Anime Faces and the THE Story with game play faces. Why they don't take somethings from Zilda Nitendo Switcu or at least from let's Go.

And thank you and really thank you very much for quote and I am waiting for you new answer and thank you

It's one thing to have voice acting in cutscenes and optional stuff. It's a completely different matter to have EVERYTHING with voice acting from the beginning to end. I don't see it realistic because not only is it bound to cost a lot of money, there's also the issue of space. If there's space to spare and there's the choice between cramming in hundreds of voice clips VS a few side-quests or extra battles, I'm voting for the latter.

I also like to imagine the character's voice and accent. In addition, even with the most recent USUM, there were still awkward localization/translation because they couldn't get some of the language-cultural aspect right. Voice acting the awkward localization is not going to be appealing.

Will I really hoped to hear lillie's voice with the SM girl voice and USUM girl voice specially when lillie really changed and take the new address with the new hair style and when she said ganblillie a move when she wants to pass the cave to reach the Sun And Moon Summon Base.

I really hope to see all of lana mallow mamane hapu kiki the fairy girl and the flying elite four voices also. So I think these are my expectations and it is really important to meet the fans expectations and so I want to hear the new girl in Garla Region voice. So in my opinion, it is about meeting the expectations or trying to reaching it more important now and this by talking the things from LGPE and improve from it because it is because this is the Nitendo Switch Level Stage. The design and colours are really greats but they also should complete it with taking some of my points about LGPE and some of my points about voices fusing them and then it is be more successful for me.

We are talking about the Need of Nitendo Switch and Nitendo Switch Game and how the games should do to meet their expectations or reaching them if they don't care about fans opinion and expectations at least care about Nitendo Switch Stage Level or back to 3DS stage level.

And thank you

Honestly, I hope they have a mechanic similar to the ORAS Dexnav to help make hunting for shinies/certain 'mons easier. Oh, and I'd adore being able to do ev training more akin to super training again

It will a really good thing when Miss Rica Matsumoto Chan is been chosen for the boy and she say Iku yo Pikachu or any pokemon with the pokemons say their name such as rizadon flamethrower. Or the girl has the voice or Tara Jayne or Sarah Natochenny or at least Mona Marshall and then one of them say let's go Audino.
Having the Pokémon say their name is one of the reasons I don't want voice at all in Pokémon. Sorry, but I always found that dumb.

Also, the games will never stop being RPGs. Do you think it is a good idea to alienate 90% of the fandom? And having to re-program everything from the ground-up?

Well hi firstly. Really I am not asking for removing the rpg even if I want but the voices in game is been used in all games so this is the time for pokemon games also

Not every game has voice acting, or needs it. Fantasy Life, Undertale, Shovel Knight, etc. didn't have voice acting and they did well.

But still it mostly necessary for the games now and pokemon really can do it

Yes I agree that it is a bonus but mostly the games use it so I think it became more like necessary but not 100 percent necessary

"Done right" is a bit too subjective, specially in the context of such a major and polarising situation.
When I asked people who played it they told me AVs are too overpowered even without using candies to the extent someone beat the game with just a pidgey, stealthrock is in the game with no counters, the complete removal of held items and abilities made several Pokémon underpowered and about 10 Pokémon are viable competitors, some of which are just way too OP I hear
I almost bought the game until I heard those things.

Also, I played the demo and catching got pretty dull, and the inconsistent motion controls only added frustration. There just isn't anything to make the catching system engaging and fun.

TLDR
I liked that they were trying to tone things down for non hikkikomori players like me, but they did so in such an unbalanced and broken fashion.
There are other disappointing aspects like the catching and lack of content, but those are beside the point I'm making and I almost overlooked those in favor of exploring kanto in 3D, following Pokémon, Partner Eevee, Super Metroid grade sequence breaking and accessible multiplayer, however finding out about how broken things are was the nail in the coffin for me.

I like held items an abilities but I think it's gotten to a point of too many and maybe we need another refresh like Ruby and Sapphire did. Same goes for mechanics like EVs and IVs, I want something fresh and accessible that doesn't eclipse battling with preparation so much, like a skill point system and some sort of equippable stat system. I think there would be less save editor users if teams were easier to prepare.

Also, it would be nice if they included information like base stats and movesets in the game like Earl's Academy in Stadium 2. Like a post game pokedex upgrade or something. Likewise, there should be an npc who gives you hints about Pokémon that are unseen in the pokedex. The games shouldn't have to rely on sites like Bulbapedia so much.

Ruby and Sapphire didn't do any kind of refreshing for items, though, and they were the games that introduced abilities, so there's no rebooting there. The closest thing they did was alter berries, which made them more complex rather than simpler.

And what makes the system of items and abilities that we have now "too much"? Very few of them are duplicates.

Items are probably the easiest thing to prepare with a Pokemon team, so I don't see how restarting them would make things any easier.

Really I want to ask about why they don't make a pokemon story with voice, why why why?

They made a lot of good things in let's go and they should complete from it and not back to old things such as back to 3ds games. Now they moved to Nitendo Switch and to be able to compete or do something unpredictable then they should complete from let's go such as showing the wild pokemon before challenge it or show as much as pokemons before challenge them. They really should do this. Now loot at FF12 in PS2, or to Crisis Core, they all talk when the story is going own, so why pokemon don't do this. It is Nitendo Switch time not to 3ds time. It really will be good when you 2ill use the Water Z Move or thunder Z move and then hear what Rica Matsumoto will say.

This what I really want and really I really want they to throw the RPG thing in garbage because RPG is really boring and I really don't like it. AND REALLY, THERE IS ONLY THERE IS ONE THING THAT I LIKE IN RPG

I don't think the issue is money for voice actors, Pokemon is the world's biggest media franchise, so I'm the sure TPCI would be willing to give some money for Voice Actors. My concern is for starters, is that the story would have probably have to be much more significant: You don't play Pokemon for the story primarily, you play it for the gameplay. ( Not saying that the story is unimportant, just the gameplay is most likely thing they prioritize in most of their games. Yes- as much as we despise the story for USM, it was probably cast aside for the gameplay. ) With the exceptions of BW and probably SM, the characters feel like side characters who after filling their purpose, usually only making an appearance in a sidequest.

If voice acting was done, there would be a need for an emphasis on the story more- making the characters play much larger roles than just gym leaders who give you a badge and bye. In GF's eyes the gameplay is more important for little kids- since they might go away to a mobile game if they find it boring. Let alone, little kids would probably not care for a story driven game in GF's eyes, so probably not a story driven game SwSh.

The other issue is that the protagonist is silent. Wouldn't it be weird that the Protagonist doesn't talk in a voice acted world? Its done that way so the player could be the protagonist- and they could emphasize their feelings. By switching to a voiced protagonist , that charm is suddenly gone. Of course they could just make the protagonist silent anyway, but it would be a lot more odd than in the non-voice acted games.

You know, most Nintendo Series: Mario and Legend of Zelda, specifically, feature silent protagonists for similar reasons as Pokemon, hence why gameplay is much more emphasized than story. On the other hand, Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus feature voice acting because the story is just as important as the gameplay. In fact, an interview for Fire Emblem Echoes states the reason its fully voice acted is to emphasize on the character's bonds.

So I say if they want to do voice acting, it would be have to be more significantly involved use of characters and story, which is something I don't see GF doing based on the direction of Let's Go.

On the topic of poorly executed Let's Go mechanics, here's a theory on Smogon on Let's Go true purpose:

I think Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee were a (poorly executed) experiment for the future direction of the franchise.

The Pokémon main series has had a really big problem for a while, and every new game has kept making it worse: Content pile-up. Counting all significant form differences (i.e. not Spinda or most gender differences), the games contain some 900 Pokémon to model, texturise, animate and writecopy over Pokédex entries for. There are also hundreds upon hundreds of moves, abilities, and items, not to mention the myriads of various little mechanics that have been introduced over the years. Stuff like Trick-or-Treat assigning a third type temporarily during battle, Curse having a different effect when Ghost-types use it, or Inkay evolving above a certain level when the console is turned upside down. Frankly, it takes years of being a fan to get an overview of it all, to keep track of what moves have what effects, which Pokémon can have which abilities, and what all the hold items do. Even then, access to an information database such as Serebii or Bulbapedia is still practically mandatory to remember everything.

There's only a certain amount of all this content a player can experience in a regular playthrough (heck, only a certain amount of it the games can inform players about, without littering the overworld with Trainer Tips signs), and Pokémon is notoriously punishing when it comes to replays. Starting over means losing all your progress. Even if you start over, it would take many playthroughs before you've seen every ability, or the full movesets of every available Pokémon. And even then, the games contain approximately 3-4 times more Pokémon than can feasibly be featured in their story portions. Even XY barely had half the Pokémon available at the time in its famously stuffed regional dex. There will inevitably be a titanic backlog of Pokémon left to the post-game, usually obtainable only through trading or transferring. Most players will never put a fraction of them to use. And still, the developers have to make sure everything works in every game. One almost has to ask, for how long can they keep this up?

In PLG, Game Freak has tried to address this problem in two ways:

First, by scaling down the amount of content. No Pokémon beyond the original 151. Almost all items and almost all moves are gone. No abilities, no weathers, no terrains, no Wonder Room, no National Dex. What is left is a manageable number of monsters and moves to keep track of in a single playthrough. It is possible to play through the game once and see most of what it has to offer.

The second way is by shifting the focus of a significant portion of the gameplay: wild Pokémon encounters. It is no longer about battling the wild Pokémon and capturing one only if you want to use it. Now, you're meant to capture every creature that comes your way, enticing players to eventually collect the entire Pokédex instead of only the handful of 'mons they want to use in that playthrough.

The execution leaves a lot to be desired, however. Excluding everything beyond Gen I was an insult to everyone whose favourite Pokémon was introduced later. It made Game Freak look like they wanted to disregard anything created after they struck it big the first time. Some Pokémon evolution lines feel woefully incomplete without their Gen II or IV additions, such as those of Zubat, Porygon or Scyther. Meanwhile, later-gen marketing fads such as Mega Evolution or Alola forms were included even though they have nothing to do with Gen I. Sure, the developers stuck to the original 151 for nostalgia reasons, but it almost makes me wonder whose nostalgia.

Moreover, by shifting the focus away from battling, the games peter out as soon as the credits roll. Why complete a Pokémon collection if you can't use the Pokémon for anything? Throwing yourself against the Elite Four time and time again is not fun, the Master Trainers negate the whole idea of team building, and they didn't bother to create a working PVP scene. Pokémon went from a game you could have endless fun with, and come back to play over and over again, to a game you play, finish and forget. That's probably not the key to sustaining long-term success.

Anyway, that's beside the point. The point is that PLG probably served as a first attempt to implement some measures the main series has to consider taking in the coming years as well. It was a seriously botched implementation, and the games were worse than FRLG in almost every way, but it still stands that the Pokémon games can't continue piling up content forever. Something has to break, if not in Gen 8 it will break even harder later on. However, the solution is clearly not to just reset the clock to 1996 and hope player preferences can be set back likewise.
