Pokémon Sword and Shield anime speculation thread

All this talk about geographical locations has reminded me that I really want a full world map of every region showing where they are in relation to one another. I think there's one of Kanto-Sinnoh but I'm not sure if that was official or fanmade.

I assume it's the same geography as the real world's. Kanto-Orange-Johto-Hoenn-Sinnoh are pretty much Japan and its islands. Galar and Kalos are England+Wales+Scotland and Northern France respectively. Alola is Hawaii.

The only one that I'm skeptical of would be Unova's location especially because of the existence of the Decolore Islands (stated to be between Unova and Kanto) that kind of muddles things up.

Galar on this map is the right way up, whilst it's region map is upside down. If you watch the E3 demo of the Wild Area, you see the lakes with South (lake close to rail bridge close to Manchester City) and East (lake closest to the Manchester City entrance.)

Anime geography has been much closer to the real world's than the games though. That and the entire region would be scaled to be country-sized as seen from how much travelling the groups did, whereas the games are pretty... game-sized?

So yeah, don't take the game map into that deep a consideration...

I'm not going to make predictions about the companions, I'm expecting pretty much anything. But I want to make predictions about this series' prerelease period:

  • Sunday: Name, logo, release date & Pikachu/starters footage.
  • September Corocoro: Ash, Sonia and Leon artwork (assuming the latter two appear on the first episodes), poster.
  • October (either in Corocoro or in the official website): Companions' artworks and details.

I'm really glad someone else brought this up, because I've been thinking about it for the past few days. If the "major announcement" Sunday is in fact the new series (which I'm personally expecting it to be) how much/what exactly do we think they're going to reveal? I cannot for the life of me remember how much of SM was revealed when they very first announced it.

I would LOVE to see some footage or artwork to get a feel for the art style, but I'm not sure if I'm just hyping myself up and all they're going to show is a logo.

If my memory serves me right, SM's first trailer contained footage of Ash and Pikachu exploring Alola and being enrolled in the Pokémon School and etc. With BW's announcement, we first got the series logo, silhouettes of Iris and Cilan with them being showcased in a couple of trailers for awhile with Ash not being revealed until the Sinnoh League had ended in Japan.
Trailers for XY started airing towards the end of Da! with Ash and Pikachu being revealed first and Clemont, Bonnie and Serena being revealed later on.

That's a super helpful rundown, thank you!

I'm really hoping we get some footage of Ash and Pikachu; since they've been around the longest, and we've seen so many different iterations of them in terms of art style, I feel like they really help to get an initial idea of what style the new series is going for. I'm also always super curious about his new outfit and how they adapt it from the games; I really like the male MC's outfit and think it could look really cool on Ash.

I'd rather they create an entirely new outfit like they did for his Hoenn journeys instead of re-using the male character but we know what the easier way out is.

Besides, red torso-wear doesn't exactly look good on Ash and he'll not look the same with a beanie instead of the trademark red cap.

This one looks decent btw.

I'm sorry, but if Ash's ShSw shirt is any color other than red I'm going to riot. I know that blue was practically his color in most past sagas, but I think red just looks better if he's going to get the same shirt as the male playable character from Shield and Sword.

I'm afraid blue is more than likely. However his top and cap, I think, will be inspired from Chase's from LGPE, while the rest of his clothing being similar to Victor's.. We won't know until sunday.

I'm pretty much expecting the knit hat to be switched out for a baseball cap, as that's been the standard before (see DP). That doesn't bother me so much because I am so used to seeing him in the baseball cap at this point.

I also agree I'd really like for the top of the outfit to remain red! It's different. Ash's DP get up wasn't one of my favorites, but it really stands out because it took a step away from having so much blue involved. Red is already part of his standard color scheme, so I don't think it would be too out of place. I think the concept art actually looks quite nice and I wouldn't mind if his outfit ended up looking something like that, although I do still think I'd prefer the top to be red (and those plaid pockets better be part of it because )

There are really two big question marks I have in terms of Ash's wardrobe this series:
  • If they're going to keep him gloveless (there's a band/bracelet involved again, just like SM)
  • What his gym "uniform" is going to look like! This has me so excited; I'm going to be really annoyed if they don't adapt it in the anime (I don't see why they wouldn't, but they've done plenty of things that don't make sense before so...) That might not be something we see at first glance but I'm still super curious!

His outfit could have the number 25, however with the play on numbers in japan, they may surprise us with something unique, something that could truly suit Ash.

And believe it or not when I tried and experiment with Gardenia and the number of Roserade, 407, it actually matches up with the word forest!

I hope he has the bright red shirt as well. :bulbaLove: The uniforms are a huge part of the gyms, so I doubt they'll omit it. My guess for Ash's uniform is that he'll have #25.

But what is the japanese word play connected with the number 25? Because that's what the other Gym Leaders have.

Welp it was confirmed today that a new Pokémon anime series will be coming soon. Hopefully there'll be more info this weekend.

So it looks like...

When I first saw this that Sword and Shield would be a combination of both DP and BW in plot.

Also, we may have ourselves brand new and original companions if they are going the remake movie line like Movie 20 and 21.

Though looking at the starters and the background, it looks as if the starters from past gens will be showcased by each of the 8 letters, as if counting from Gen 1 to Gen 8 respectively. Plus the works in front of the starters.

The next series will be revealed on Sunday, September 29, 2019.
If I were to guess, SM137's announcement is probably gonna be an ad saying to look forward to that date.

According to translation to that tweet...

"LAST MINUTE: Filtered the possible logo of the new Pokémon anime of the eighth generation with a radical change, based on the remake movie logo. We will continue informing ....

At the moment they don't seem to have revealed the final name of the new anime. They simply refer to the new anime as "Pokémon - New TV Animation Series"

Even more interesting: the text in the images says: "History takes you to all the worlds of Pokémon" So we could have an anime with different regions? Different protagonists simultaneously, in each region? For now we can only speculate. "

So, what it sounds like to me, is that Sword and Shield will have all the characters from the past from OS, AG, DP, BW, XY and SM return in the Galar Region.

Could this mean that Misty, May, Dawn, Iris, Serena and other could make a return? Or travel back to these Regions? Could we possibly see some old Pokemon of Ash like Greninja and those in training like Primape and Cacnea return?

But that's just speculation till sunday, but anyway, what do you think?
