Damn, even the Japanese fans are pissed about Ash not getting Sobble. They really messed up

How are you able to know what Japanese fans think? I have no idea where to see their opinions. But yeah, ime with other anime fandoms, if you piss off the Japanese fans, then you really messed up. They tend to like things we dislike.

I want Go to catch it. Just to watch the world burn

Since near the end of Sun and Moon there's been an official twitter page for the anime at /anipoke_pr. Japanese fans responses there at least give an idea, though like English twitter it's just a sampling and may not be perfectly indicative (English twitter loves Sun and Moon way more than the English forums tend to, for instance).

EDIT:
Aiiiii seems like they messed up (Unless they are trolling again and Ash is getting it) if even the Japanese don't like it (Not surprising, since Gou isn't popular at all in Japan either).
Really? I got the impression from twitter he was pretty well liked there, at least early on (I haven't checked as much since that one time I reported on what the fans seemed to be saying on it led to a multiple page argument....).

I don't think we have real confirmation that Go is hated in Japan.

That seems more a theory from fans projecting their own dislike for the character.

How is a tweet with nearly 12K likes proof of people being displeased? Even if there are a lot of complaints, those likes mean something.

And yet Scorbunny felt wasted being with a character that isn't popular with a lot of people (well, on the internet anyway). Sobble would probably experience the same fate. Ash can help make Grookey become more popular, you never know.
The target audience is kids, specifically Japanese ones. If Go is unpopular among them, which I doubt seeing as how he represents a popular game, then giving Ash all the marketable Pokemon is not the solution. From a marketing perspective, Go is more important than the Galar starters, which have received merchandise regardless of the anime.

And in what universe is Raboot wasted? Just how were the Alola starters better treated 27 episodes into SM?

I read a bunch of the posts from that preview tweet and people're mostly speculating. Some says that if Gou catches Messon then Satoshi's gonna get Sarunori, others that Messon suits Satoshi better, etc... I've seen at least one asking for Serena's return xD But yeah, some are mad about that too.

Also, the posts in English there seem a little out-of-place in my opinion. Not that I'm not used to, I mean I find posts in my mother language on English-speaking Youtube videos, but still.

Sobble is confirmed to be Gou's.

Wow, bold strategy to label your own assumption as "confirmed" in a fandom where people just take these things and run with them.

The previews certainly make it seem like Goh is going to be the one to catch Sobble, but this series has been notably baity, so I honestly have no idea what's actually going to happen. I didn't have strong feelings one way or another on who Sobble would ultimately go to, but I'll be pretty bummed if he goes to Goh mainly because a majority of Goh's Pokemon have been wasting away off screen and I'd hate to see that happen to a starter of the newest region.

Perhaps if Goh catches Sobble, it'll actually get more spotlight? I'm not confident, but I guess it's a possibility.

I’m curious. Got their posts?

ゴウがゲットしそうだけど、ゴウはあまりバトルに積極的じゃないからインテレオンまで進化しなそうな気がする

By user @manayonemin

"It seems like Gou is catching it indeed, but I don't think it'll evolve all the way to Inteleon since Gou is not much of an assertive battler."

I found one more where the guy seems more pissed than that, but gotta read it throughly first.

Honestly, the Alolan starters were treated much better by that point. Rowlet had debuted, been captured and taken part in a Grand Trial where it won a battle, Litten had gotten its entire arc with Stoutland, bonded with Ash leading to its capture and mastered Fire Fang, something it had been shown working on and even Popplio got an episode focusing on its bubbles, starting it on its story with Lana’s goal, even making progress with it. Plus all 3 got to show off their personalities all throughout. They did a hell of a better job then vs now with the starters.

That's actually been going on consistently. Almost every one of the tweets on that account I've checked responses to gets at least one of those. Like how every single tweet on the english account gets dexit posts.
I don't follow Twitter at all, so that's why it called my attention xD But out of all the people who asked for her return, 90% were typing it in English.
