Pokemon Legends: Arceus General Discussion

Soo... if it has no online, how are trade evolutions gonna work exactly (Unless Gamefreak slowly wants to fade out trade evolutions, as evident in Sword and Shield where all of them are available in the wild).
Online might not exist, but local wireless features might still be there.

i am not sure where else to put this short tangent!! so i am hoping where it is early days of this thread it will be ok :) :)

Legends: Mew if it happens would possibly be an open world rainforest!!!
This could be the second Legends entry, for the 30th anniversary (even if it is not ready during the exact year just as this one!)

Theoretically this would be a never before visited region rather than Kanto! Whether it is the early text in RGBY (Guyana) or even this, although it is still surprising that they call a region South America this far into the series at first, no continent names have been revealed in game, and, it would be easy to retcon.

FireRedA Pokémon of South America that was thought to have been extinct. It is very intelligent and learns any move.

I have to say, this game looks very interesting, and I am also looking forward to the mix of starters. Although, sadly Im not a big fan of Decidueye. Can't wait to see what pokémon are available and what the story is like :)

Also, kinda cool that, like LGPE, we're seeing a slightly new gameplay style in a core series game (this is considered core series, right?).

the game looks really good, can not wait till it is out, I hope it will have online

That’s a matter of opinion. SwSh looked beautiful to me (blah blah trees blah blah). Does that make me an uncultured peon? Probably. Do I care? Most heroes come from such humble beginnings so no.
It doesn't matter if you care or not. Graphics are an important aspect of games otherwise everyone would release blurry games with terrible textures. I am not saying you must care but saying that they are not important in a game is like saying that the quality of sound in a concert is not important for the experience at that concert. Some people may not care, but that's an important aspect anyway.

Well obviously if everything’s blurry and terribly textured that’s bad but most people don’t release games like that and people still complain anyways despite them being relatively okay. Not all game graphics need to be absolutely stunning and cutting edge. I mean, look at Minecraft.

I think it's safe to assume that not one is expecting this game to look absolutely stunning. That said, there are severe frame drops (the chingling or the budew move at 2fps, people and pokemon sometimes freeze etc) and that's something that for me can badly influence the experience of the game (like being in the wild area while online for example). Let's say I'm ok with the art style and the textures, I mean, this time I can forgive GF, but I'm expecting this game to run at least at 30fps without too many framedrops and that because even if graphics are not my main focus on this game, I want it to look at least decent for a switch title in 2022.

I expect that the frame rate drops will be fixed by the time the game comes out. That’s an easier problem to fix than graphics. I think. Not a game designer.

If I remember correctly, the frame rate in the lost woods in the demo of Age of Calamity was bad but when I played the full game I didn’t notice anything.

Of course, I never notice these things anyways so you probably shouldn’t take my word for it.

As someone who who’s been a big defender of Pokémon graphics, they definitely need to step up their game. I’m gonna give them the benefit of the doubt with it not being released till next year but it needs big work.
There’s no reason a mobile game should have a prettier world than a game as big as Pokémon.

In addition, I do question how much if any Ainu references there will be in this game as colonialism and the like are particularly sensitive topics these days that I suspect GF would prefer to sidestep. Then again, they did put in Copperaja into Sw/Sh so who knows maybe they do have the balls to acknowledge it after all.

The were almost no Ainu references in Diamond and Pearl, indeed, but nowadays I believe we might see a change in that. Japan has mostly stopped pretending in the past 10 years that there is no Ainu minority. As I mentioned before, one of the most popular manga currently in Japan is unabashedly open in talking about the Ainu and Meiji Era Hokkaido.

Pokemon games (new gen) are usually revealed 9 months before release and remakes 5-6 months before release. Assuming we can consider this a new gen game (considering it had to create an entire world on 3D and a new story, even if it won't add new pokemon), we can say it was revealed at least 3 months earlier than past games. Now, considering that the second trailer of sw/sh (June) did make the games look a bit better than the first one (for example in the first trailer the routes and the cities looked totally empty without pokemon and people, not counting there were a lot of shadows missing from objects and trees and a lot of bad textures that were later corrected), I think we can say that a more accurate reveal should arrive in early June. Always looking back at the trailer form sw/sh, we can say that around early October Pokemon Legends trailer will reflect the game as It'll look at reveal (I'm expecting a Pokemon Day or March Reveal).
Next trailer will probably introduce other people or trainers in the game (hoping they will not be totally static NPCs waiting for death like in past games), riding Pokemon (that we know are a thing because of the leaked pictures) and maybe some information about the actual story. Next trailer will probably be better than the one we got because in this one there's just a new catching system and the graphics of the new world to look at (and yes the graphics are not exactly stunning).

Game Freak take as much time as you want on this, just please don’t rush this one out. BoTW got delayed several times and look how it turned out. I really don’t mind waiting till end of 2022 or early 2023 even if it means the final product is even better.

I won't be surprised if it was meant for this year but hit delayed.

Maybe they wanted d/p remakes for early this year and Legends for later this year but Covid may have forced them to delay them. Pokemon Snap will realese in April though, so probably 3 Pokemon games in one year would have been too many. Imo the one we got was actually the original plan.
Okay: really dumb joke.

What if the reason the graphics and art style in BDSP look silly is to make Legends: Arceus look better.
I don’t believe this, obviously.
I think it's more likely to believe that they simply didn't want two games based on the same region to look similar. The different art styles and gameplays will attract different audiences with different taste and introduce them to the Sinnoh region. This may also encourage some casual players to buy the other game after they have played and enjoyed the first one (the second game will look like something different but familiar at the same time because the games are clearly connected somehow). They are the biggest franchise in history, everything they do is carefully planned.

I think I figured out why they went with Cyndaquil.

The Volcano Sakurajimi that apparently erupted during the Samurai era. Considering Typhlosion is pretty much the embodiment of a volcano, I can now place it properly.
