Hisuian Forms and Evolutions Discussion

However, this now makes me wonder if Onix will get an equivalent of a Hisuian "Steelix" since the Metal Coat seems to not exist yet (and Scizor and Steelix not yet being discovered as a consequence) in Hisui.
That’s a good question. However, what type would you give a pre-Steelix Onix evolution? I’m thinking we could get a Rock/Dragon gem-encrusted serpentine Asian dragon to give off the impression of ancient treasure. To take it a step further, maybe those gems could be the source of the spheres in modern Sinnoh’s underground. After all, remnants of a lost evolution is probably a good reason for why we have sphere collectors in-universe.

Maybe Kleavor's absence in the modern Pokémon world has to do with special minerals unique to the Hisui Region that its Pokedex description mentions. Maybe Sinnoh's eventual industrialization, as we see with Oreburgh, led to them mining all the minerals preventing current Scyther from becoming Kleavor again.
I was thinking the same thing. Industrialization causing the extinction of a Pokemon - Kleavor in this case. Though what people did with the special minerals is another matter since there's not a single trace in modern Sinnoh.

In that case, I really hope that the introduction of these new ‘regular’ evolutions in Legends: Arceus isn’t used as an excuse to take away these cross-generation evolutions in later games, especially if they just end up using ordinary evolutionary methods.

I like to believe that it'll just be used to vaguely explain why they weren't available previously and won't be available in remakes, since they've decided to go the ultra-faithful route with those.

A return to regular evos is so welcome, though. <3 Like regional variant evos are cool and all but it's also nice to just go back to basics.

This game lacks held items, so the following Pokemon are in limbo:

Scizor (probably replaced), Steelix, Porygon line (almost definitely absent anyway), Electivire, Magmortar, Rhyperior, Weavile, Gliscor, Dusknoir

Granted, their items could randomly act like stones for this game. They aren't all going to get alternate evolutions, and some may be scrapped.

Look closely at Mai’s leggings:

"Hisuian Stantler" debunked?
Good riddance to that theory.

Electivire is confirmed to be in the game (they show it as an Alpha pokemon). Which is interesting, since Electivire's evo relies on an incredibly modern-looking item anyway, so... really likely to get new evolution methods for some of these.

Oh kinda note-worthy- Scyther is the first one to get a new form/evo in this game who was available in Diamond proper without poke radar or dual slot being involved. That said, it's still a pretty rare encounter and version-exclusive at that. Albeit not quite so rare in Platinum.

I like Kleavor a lot! It has quite a cool name, too (a corruption of cleaver in the same way that Scizor is a corruption of scissor).

Imagine they do a Hisuian Porygon, but’s it made from paper or leaves or something and is brought to life by Arceus or another Pokemon. I could see the lore being present day Porygons were created and based on their Hisuian ancestors.

An origami Porygon would be AMAZING.

Porigamigon is just sitting there waiting for a regional evo

Also, a casual thought on something that's not a Hisuian form per se, but does appear to be a new form in these games - there was some discussion a while back on Wurmple's new secondary horn and whether it might be a new gender difference or a visual indicator of whether that Wurmple will evolve into Silcoon or Cascoon. I think now that it must be the latter, since Dustox and Beautifly already have gender differences of their own and it would be weird to remove those in order to retcon them into being single-sex species. Also, it's a bit hard to verify beyond a doubt, but I'm fairly sure that the Beautifly on the right side of the screen in this part of the trailer has shorter red marks on its wings compared to the Beautifly in the center, which if true would mean that Beautifly can still be either male or female.

Providing us with an indicator of Wurmple's evolutionary path would make more sense anyway - as it stands, it's not a very player-friendly evolution at all since you have no practical way to tell what you're going to get before it happens. If you were hoping your Wurmple might evolve into a Dustox, there's a 50% chance you might end up having to find another Wurmple altogether, and then take another gamble on that one. This sort of change would also be in line with several of the QoL adjustments that SwSh introduced, like turning location evos into Stone evos, letting us manually change Natures, and democratizing egg moves.

The big question is if all the new evolutions are "blessed", i.e. mounters or Nobles. If so, there are only four remaining (the rock climber plus 3 Nobles), and some may be forms like Braviary.

No obvious retcons, please. Porygon wasn't even created in Sinnoh.

Sure, but it needn’t have been in order to have inspirational roots in another part of the country. The developer who ended up spearheading the Porygon project could’ve been from Sinnoh and maybe they were familiar with old traditions or stories involving Hisuian Porygon. Not too different really from someone creating a new product or service and deciding to brand it after something that’s personally significant to them. I mean there’s so, so many examples of brands and companies in the Pokémon world that take inspiration from Pokémon themselves, like Casteliacones for one.

Besides, this is kinda already Obvious Retcon: The Game

Or they could just keep Porygon out of the game? Plenty of fish, and Porygon is already in LGPE, SwSh (DLC) and BDSP.

Porygon's design is very basic. Absolutely no one has ever wondered "gee, how did they come up with that?" I understand putting up with retcons, but not hoping for them.

Out of all the Hisuian mons, the one that I favor is Ayashishi(Wyrdeer) because Odoshishi(Stantler) has always been a favorite of mines and was one that desperately needed some love. Though I really like the others as well. All of their artworks are freaking awesome!!! While I really like Basagiri(Kleavor) and even more so because Strike(Scyther) is another favorite I honetsly would've preferred they chose Kailios(Pinsir) or Heracros for an evo as Strike already has one. I could go on to list all of my favorites I think deserve a regional variant/evo but I'd rather say I hope more mons that need a boost to be competitive is where the attention goes to.

We've been getting wild trade evos since like Gen IV, so it's not completely out there.

I love Wyrdeer too! For me it’s because of the Princess Mononoke vibes it gives me.

I really think they gave it to Scyther because Kleavor will be the HM Cut for this game (but has not been advertised as such yet). I easily see a super dense wooded area blocking our progression, and we call on Kleavor to clear it. And when you think about a cutting Pokémon, Scyther easily comes to mind, more than the other

Now I want a Sudowoodo variant that is steel that is enemies with it. Haha

Anyone have thoughts on the lady/queen Pokémon that at Arezu looks after? The current trend means that it is a Hisuian variant or evolution, and her bracelet is green so it’s a green Pokémon. Hisuian Tsareena comes to mind first, although it could be any Grass (or just green) Pokémon really.

Absolutely no one has ever wondered "gee, how did they come up with that?"

And no one is wondering that even now. It's not being suggested from the angle of "B-but, where did the idea come from, they never explained it!", but rather, "We have a game set in the distant past, and a Pokémon that's very modern. What'd be a fun way to reinterpret it to fit the setting?"

I understand putting up with retcons, but not hoping for them.

Probably not everyone sees retcons as an inherently bad things if they can lead to ideas that seem fun. I mean, it's Pokémon. Who unironically cares about the canon that much?

I wonder how many new evolutions/hisuian forms (Or, lines of forms) we will get. At least 8 most likely but i also imagine there's gotta be some of them which aren't connected to any Warden. (I still dont think Braviary or Arcanine are)

Just curious, why do you think Braviary isn't connected to any Wardens? Two other revealed PokéRides are confirmed to be cared by one, so the safest bet would be H. Braviary, as one of the PokéRides, is also the same.
