Sailor Moon license available to the west again

I'm pretty sure if Funimation got it, Stars would at least make it to DVD unaltered. On air? Maybe not.

Second half of R and all of S was the best for me...

4Kids I see as unlikely because they had Toei's One Piece... they ended up getting that revoked and it's now in Funimation's hands.

Dumber things have happened, but I doubt Toei will make that same mistake again.

I would hope not, but even if they did, I at least have the original DVDs to tide me over.

Bumping with news.

Brazil has become the first western country to officially get the series back. TV, toy, and DVD rights. First season only thus far.

And according to Wikipedia, it's airing in Hong Kong in August (no confirmation on this though).

I havent seen sailor moon since elementary school O_O id so want to try out for voice acting in that series.

Bumping with August news roundup:

August, pretty silent month for us but...

Big things in Italy, they officially got the manga back, and the anime series on TV has been posting high ratings, with 500,000-700,000 viewers.

As for North America, at Anime Evolution in Vancouver (I think...) someone asked the head of Dark Horse's manga division about the Sailor Moon manga (well, the question was actually about the shoujo genre in general) to which he responded with "we don't have it, but you'll be hearing something about it soon".

This makes Dark Horse the second company to say that, with Tokyopop saying the exact same thing in June at Anime Expo.

And for what it's worth: http://www.kwiksurveys.com/online-survey.php?surveyID=KCOIHN_def62e2b&UID=3278178353 Moonchase is running this survey about a possible TV broadcast, about questionable content and what not. It will apparently be sent to companies to help them determine what to do with a possible broadcast. It's almost wrapped up, so if you're interested give it a whirl, it's going to be their final survey.

Oh and the Hong Kong thing I mentioned, yeah they got the series back.

Bumpan with some news.

The manga looks like it might actually be coming...

There have been various hints given. Tokyopop hinted at it at Anime Expo, Dark Horse hinted, and smiled about it, at Anime Evolution, and recently someone in the industry pretty much confirmed someone's working on it.

At Anime Weekend Atlanta this past weekend, Dark Horse said they have 5-8 manga licenses to announce at New York Anime Festival/Comic-com.

We'll see how this pans out. But the signs are looking pretty good right now.

that was San Diego Comic-con, NY has one as well, but it's a bit smaller and is also an anime con.

Well, good. Mine got water damaged and I couldn't replace them due to being out of print.

I wonder if they'll be re-translated...

Only way the original translation would be reused is if Tokyopop got it back, and that's pretty much already ruled out.

If it's Dark Horse, it'll be a new translation, and a good one, most likely.

The only problem with Dark Horse? They can be a bit pricey sometimes, but it's nothing Amazon.com can't solve, as they sell most Dark Horse manga at 7-8$ all the time.

Awesome. I'm just wondering which names they'll use.

The original version was translated before the S Arc was dubbed, so all the Inners had dub names and the Outers had Japanese names...

Well, I haven't see all of sailor moon anime for a while. I got a Sailor Venus figure from ebay and so I seem them all of "Stars: Final Season". Funimation is still working on the episode who known. If they come back can they bring back the DiC dub version?

=O I love Sailor Moon! Glad it'll be getting a re-release (hopefully without any cuts.)

We don't know for sure yet. Right now, it looks pretty likely the manga is going to make it. The TV series however... we have nothing for so far.

?????

Depends. The likelihood is of this happening at all is small, though.

What we know for sure is that Funimation has stated that should they get it, they would redub the entire thing. This includes Stars, the final season that never made it over at all.

If Dark Horse gets it, I'll be happy as I like their translations, but I hope they can keep to a set release schedule. I've been trying to follow the Oh My Goddess rereleases but they keep getting pushed back. But I'd be fine with whichever company got it, as long as it's not Tokyopop.

Aw nuts =( To be honest I only read one volume of the manga. It was a little bit different, but at least it wasn't full of filler. Don't know if I'll buy it, but I'll take a look at it. I'm assuming it will be kept in the original 'right to left' format this time around?

Again, don't know for sure. If Dark Horse gets it, it should be.
